Geez . . . Sounds like the same logging crew that stripped my neighbors land here in VT. The house (big log cabin) sits on a cliff overlooking our lake. Last fall the loggers came in knocked a path up the side of the property, much like you described virtually straight up the hill.

Then they went nuts! They dropped anything and everything, for about 100 acres, leaving behind an absolute mess. Once everything was felled, then they picked and chose what they wanted, leaving everything else behind. It looks worse thru this property than the pics we've seen from the Gulf last year! Terrible just plain terrible.

Then during the winter, as the log run was continuously eroding, the water and swill came down over the road, to the point the town stepped in and mandated a catch basin of sorts. Then the stock pile of logs rolled off the stack plateau and these idiots had logs out in the road, and the drainage gulley along the road, etc.. Nasty sound when the town snow plow came thru about midnight plowing snow!

What's equally as bad, if not worse, is that the lower lot housed the leaching system for the cabin. They dropped huge spruce trees and pushed others over, exposing, you guessed it, raw run off........with out repair!

Now it runs off in to a gulley along side the road, and into the lake. Despite all of our complaints and phone calls to officials, we cannot seem to get any resolution and repair. We contacted the state, and they told us that we should call when we smell something (?)----What on earth do they think we're calling for?!

Anyway - point being, sounds like the same crew, if not from the same family! Sorry to hear about the mess, but most definitely can appreciate being gunshy for other contractors.

Even at $31 each I think we're still being gouged. Years ago I worked for the supplier that made GM's convertible top systems. They had a problem with the '89 Camaro tops coming loose at high speeds. We "sold" our internal Engineering Sales Division a new, cast-stainless steel latch at 100% markup of $28 each. It was then sold to our internal Warranty Department who marked it up 100%. Then had to be "sold" to GM SPO (Service Parts Organization) which marked it up another 100% who "sold" it to the GM warranty guys who sold it to the GM dealers. The final price at the dealer was $429 and change for a $28 latch.

My point is so many "people" have their hands in the cookie jar. But that doesn't matter as long as they make a profit for doing absolutely nothing. But it's we the consumers who are paying outrageous costs.

Back in '03 I needed an air filter for my '03 Dodge Cummins. Only the dealers had them on the shelf for $30 and only one aftermarket maker was making them. My local Napa dealer wanted $64. I bought two from the dealer. Too many hands in the cookie jar.

Man we keeping score, if I said it twice it must be true. There was a fellow supervisor at work that told the General forman that he was the smartest person he knew. One minute later when the Nuclear director walked in the told him the same thing, 30 seconds later when the Division head walked in he received the same title. The General Foreman told the Division head to live it up because the Base Comander may walk in at any time. But I still love you.

I recently purchased an old New Holland 450 sickle bar mower to use with my TC29. The tractor carries the mower well and the mower works well on my ditch banks. It was in pretty poor condition when I paid $75.00 for it. A trip to my NH dealer and $125 in parts later. I have a great addition to the farm.
It still needs paint, but it works well and is much smoother than I expected. My neighbor came over and showed me how to change blades.
Its a snap with a 4" grinder and a ball peen hammer and punch.Remove the blade bar from the mower, Grind off the heads of the rivets on the blade side and punch them out. Put the new blade in place and put in the new rivets from the bar side, place the head of the rivet on whatever you are using for an anvil.We used a sledge hammer head for the anvil in the field. Then using the flat side of the ball peen, begin to drive the rivet like a nail. It will swell to fill the hole in the bar and tighten up. Then use the ball side to peen the rivet until it flattens. Check the blade to make sure it is tight and then repeat the process as needed. We pulled the blade bar and replaced 2 blades in about 10 minutes.

Got myself like new quick attach adjustable forks for $700 no tax through the want-ad-digest. JD Dealer told me they could get me a set for about $1000. Seller told me he bought these for his JD 2520, used them about 4 times but 2520 couldn't lift that much with the forks. I am a happy camper today.
