Kenneth is right, in the aviation world it is a huge matter, for nearly 2 decades there weren't any small general aviation planes built in North America, it took a special US law to limit litigation against them to bring them back.

Today the lion's share of small planes are made in Czechoslovakia, not just because they inheirited a huge aerospace industry from the USSR, but because they passed a law forbidding litigation against the manufacturers or even enforcement of foreign litigation unless the accident occurred in that country, and the injured party is a citizen of that country.

Recently a tragic accident happened just down the road from here that outlines the needs for such safety measures. A 4 year old boy walked up behind his father who was cutting the grass with a riding mower, the father not knowing his son was there, reversed the machine to turn around severing a large part the boys right foot.

If we knew when it was going to happen, they wouldn't call it an accident!!!

I had a similar problem a few years ago on one from Home Depot with a Tecumseh engine. It was very tempermental (gave it to a friend). I would check for loose carb bolts. Does gas shoot out of the intake? Mine did. I've had other Briggs motors do that and they had worn piston rings. Once they warmed up it would ok but didn't have power and was a bear to restart.

I have a M 6800 with about 550 hours or so on it over 7 years. Put $1500 into the transmission about two months ago for a gear that lost a tooth. Seems the little taping I was hearing and not paying much attention to was serious. Some of the grey paint has flaked off esp. on roll bar and lift area. Top of exhaust pipe just rusted off. Need to adjust the foot throttle, for some reason it has lost it full range. The draft is not great for field cultivation. Have found it can cause problems. Any other issue has been my fault. The plastic does not like limbs.

Mine has only low and reverse range and 3rd and 4th gear synchronized. Would have liked it fully synchronized.

Have had a IH and JD person brag on how quite and smooth it runs and how well it handles. I agree. Even with the transmission issue probably would buy it again. It will pull it�s heart out. It pulls with my brother�s heavier and little larger MF but handles much better.

Best thing about it, my grandson likes it.

Brake actuators are pretty useless on a tractor, large or small. They only really have a benefit when there is a fairly large range in operating speeds.

Also, most controllers use an internal pendulum to adjust the power, at slow speeds, or on rough ground it is nearly useless.

Anyone who has ever setup a brake controller for highway driving in hill country and then found themselves heading for the windshield the first time you tried to stop in a service plaza knows what I mean. If you set the brakes for speed they nearly lock at slow speeds. If you set them for parking lot speed they aren't there above about 30 mph.

Our big tractor has only two settings via a 3 position flip switch, off, low & high. Generally it stays in the low position.

I'm sure you will have little reason to need much adjustment.

I bought a 3120 this past fall and have been very happy with it so far. I have a FEL and RFM. I ordered it with the extra big tires which I am happy I did, more for looks as opposed to function. I'd suggest the CX FEL if you get one.

Bill I use mine for commercial grading and brushcutting which is hard on it, but even still they should have lasted a lot longer that 50 hours. Mine are made of a stamped sheetmetal sheath welded to the ends of the arms with a locking lever in each. The extensions slide inside the sheaths. The sheath gets pounded up and down and side to side to the point it allows the extensions to be very wobbly. This wobbly action makes it impossible to hold the box scraper at a given position; the box scraper can travel up and down at one end as much as 2" total.

The L-3400 is a very good work horse but the Grand L's do offer a work area that is a little bit cleaner in design and easier to enclose properly for a cab with heat for winter snow removal and as long as we are there. The 3400 has no provisions for a front snow blower or a mid mower.

Yes I thought about the dipstick being the right one, and whether the oil was overfull but how does one know? And I take your point about self importing and no dealer support. The correct fluid has been used after I drained and flushed the tank etc. The oil is also going the right way.

Although there are some Jinmas around here, there are no backhoes so no help here. That's why forums like this are good because people with a common interest can offer help, advice or guesses as you put it. Sometimes one can be blinkered, can't see the forrest for the trees so to speak. It just needs someone looking in from the outside to offer their opinion and that's what makes us look and or re evaluate the situation, and more often or not find a solution.
I'll continue to monitor the situation and hope to get a reply from the manufacturer as to why they think it is happening. The moment I do I'll post their answer.

Thanks once again Greg and a guess is always 100% better than nothing.

Do you have a backhoe that uses two cylinders down low that sit nearly parallel to each other to slew it? Or do you have a rack-and-pinion system; or a large, 2-section roller chain connected to a sliding cylinder(s)? In either case there may be too much slop in the pivots or the bushings are worn so much that what you are seeing is sloppy tolerances. Bushings can be replaced, chains can be tightened; a rack and pinion can be harder to take the slop out of (I'm not aware of a fix for that).

Also, what I've found is the that since the backhoe is a horizontally mounted pendulum---whith some sloppiness when worn---, the plumbness of the hoe main pivot has a big bearing (no pun intended) on how the hoe stops and starts swinging or slewing. For example, with looseness like I get on mine if the hoe is perfectly level or rather the main pivot is, the hoe works predictably and smoothly. But raise the rear of the machine and the hoe swings rapidly and stops hard to one side or the other (read: crashes). Lower the rear and raise the front, and the opposite happens: the hoe swings softly from the center to the sides, but can swing hard and swiftly to the center which can make for repeatedly difficult alignment to the trench. One way to slow the slewing action and make it more mansgeable is to reduce the size of the hoses or fittings at the cylinders. This in effect reduces the amount of oil going to the cylinders slowing movement, sort of like kinking a garden hose.

I also have a 4310. Great tractor. The frame size provides lots of use options. Just be aware of the power limitations and do't bite off more than you can chew. You should be surprised with how much it can do.

That size is often used on larger {80-130} hp four wheel drive tractors on the fronts of many brands of tractors. Do some more looking at farm equipment dealers or where they shop if they don't have in house tire repair.

Like the other posts said if the blade isn't designed and built to withstand the high leverage at the pivot you will wish you had invested in a box scraper. A box scraper will tend to load up which will help become the needed weight. You might want to invest in hydraulic top link which will give you more versatility with the box scraper as yu can tilt the scarifiers to the optimal pitch. You can do it manually with the manual top link but hydraulic is the way to go. When I make my final pass I lift the box scraper all the way and extend the top link which drops the rear. I then pull it around in high gear and it spreads out the finer stuff like butter. Another option is buying or renting a 3-pt power rake (about $4000-7000). They are amazing how they can grind a soil into powder (I've got one). You need a hydrostat trans though to be effective.

Here's another idea: a "middle buster" or "single shank ripper" they're not real cheap ($150-300) but could be the ticket to break up soil.

Hi-Does hinomoto-or anyone else-make a power steering unit or some adapter that changes the steering geometery on the E2304? I've reversed the front wheels-for sidehill-so the very hard steering is now very VERY hard. I also need to widen my rear trac and the factory rims have little offset and are single piece. Any suggestions?
