We already have a old farmall cub with that same set up on it , if there that much I think it would be a good idea to keep that tractor.

Well I took delivery of the yeller and beige beast on
Friday. I am waiting for my 60" Three Point Finish Mower
to come in (backorder) and my 12" bucket for the hoe. The
hoe has a 16" bucket on it now and IMHO that's just too big
for my needs.

What do I think of her?

Awesome machine! Wow this Cat (Perkins) Diesel is a work
horse with nice amounts of power and fantastic fuel consumption.

I do have some gripes about the tractor but I think I could
apply the same gripes to most CUT's.

The backhoe drags if you get into gullies (sort of expected
it to drag a bit). The front end loader needs teeth...

I wish I could "lock" it in 4WD not that the automatic 4WD
doesn't work (it does) I just kinda wish I could keep it in
4WD all the time just for piece of mind.

The subframe on the hoe hangs down a bit lower than I would
like, but it also helps to protect the hydrostat fluid
filters and the transmission in general.

The hoe is STOUT! 970 Lbs worth! It has no problem getting
down and dirty and I have yet to "tax" the system even at
idle the hoe just rips through the ground.

The hydrostat is whiney... I am sure they all are... The
7000 series gas job they lent me was also whiney.. I was
used to my old Yanmar being a gear case/shuttle shift no
whine but a PITA to use at times.

The dealer I bought from has treated me like gold! Seriously
they have gone the distance for me.. I am sure part of it
is because people don't walk in and drop 23K and change on
a tractor every day... But besides the point they have made
the purchase something to enjoy!

There are very few jobs where one can find the perfect machine. Generally speaking, a BX will be just fine for most jobs on most 2 acre sites.

As KP indicated, he will be mowing, putting in a landscape wall and tilling a small patch. The BX will do just fine. Like I said, he could get a bigger hammer (a B model) and do it with one blow rather than a BX which might take 2 blows.

I guess it comes down to personal preference, but the way I see his needs and using my BX for many of the same projects, a BX is good for me.

The flashers on my little tractor have not worker since I got it. Yesterday I thought I would check the wiring. I cleaned and replaced a few ends. I didn't do anything to the flashers. I must have left the switch on because last night a 3.30 am there is a flashing light in my window. I got up to look thinking it was the police of something. I was still fuzzy from getting up. I looked out and both of the rear flashers were working. I went out and turned the switch off. I had tried to turn them of several times before and nothing. If I turn them on now nothing. Just a one time middle of the night haunted trick. Maybe the B stands for boo! 7200

DeTwang, glad your power came back. Warmer weather is coming, they're saying we'll see 70 in the next few days.

Our house is 3600 sf. We use LP for hot water, BBQ (which we use almost daily), generator, cooktop and dryer. Soon we will retrofit radiant floor heat on the main floor. Mostly we have the big 1000 gal tank for the generator because we lose power several times a month. How long it lasts depends on how many outages occur. The best was about 10 months, the worst about six. LP was 85 cents/gallon from Ferretgas when we moved in six years ago. Last time they quoted us $2.70/gal so we switched suppliers and got it for $1.70. LP has doubled in price over the last six years but electric has only increased 40%. Right now LP is no bargain. When we install radiant heat I'm thinking about plumbing in an electric water heater and switching back and forth based on what's cheapest to run.

I've been slowly building a "smart" generator control panel. It will duty cycle the generator to keep the security panel batteries charged during long outages and keep the refrigerator cold. The panel will have telephone and web interfaces so we can check on it remotely. Over Christmas a few years ago the power was out for a week while we were gone and the security panel batteries are only good for a day. The security company called us and all we could do was worry. Had a neighbor check on the house daily but I'd rather not have bothered them.

Funny!!! Here is how it went. Get up there late Thur. night. Run out in the woods and retrieve a game camera, (Prioritys right?) Get back and install the new pressure system. Have a small leak but fix that right away with one more turn of the coupler. Everything worked fine except that the pressure stopped increasing at about 30 psi. Thats when I realized what what going on. YES My spouyse was starting to re-pack. LOL. What about showers"""???? She say's? I figured out real fast how long it took for enough water to get into the drilled well (6" casing" again before the pump would suck it into the system. I tells her, " OK Take that shower but , "get wet, turn it off, soap up and then turn back on and rinse it off!" LOL LIVID???? YOU ASK??? YES! All five of us took showers that way but it was 11pm when we finished!<br>
Here is the best part (and some one once said that women should rule the world) On Friday afternoon the girls all wanted to take a hike down the trails. I did not think about it at all, told them GO AHEAD! LOL) (BTW, My son and I had the 4 wheelers totally covered with mud just from running out and picking up that camera the night before! LMAO) ONE would think that as soon as they see water acrossed one of the trails that they would change their mind and come back! NOPE!!!! By the time they got a mile into the walk they were already covered with mud and wet to their knees. By walking the edges of the trail to get around some of the water, they would get scratched up by the black berry and rasberry patches that run the whole way along the edge of the trail! Needless to say that when they returned, My wife and my (know it all) 15 year old girl were choking each other! (My other girl is cool, she came back and said, OH WELL<(I told them? LOL)<br>
Then came the mud and how do we get this off with next to no water??? All the bitching and moaning about the problem that I can not fix! (I am not god ya know?) It did not help when I told them to go out ot the pond and rinse off before getting in my shower! ROTFLMAO!!! Honest!!! Fuel to a fire? You bet! <br>
NO we did not go to a hotel and also they lived thru the whole thing. Aslo my son got his first turkey.<br>

Well, raising the WD hitch is not really something I can consider. I have it riding maybe an inch or so high when empty, helps when the load is brought on. I use an impact wrench and torque the ball, bolts, etc. on at 300 ft/lb. Adjusting this would mean I'd need to carry the big compressor around on each empty trip. This force can't, at least for me, be broken by hand. I've tried. It does level out when I get up to speed. But I will try the delation trick this week. See how I like it.

I won't mount the backhoe attachment on the 3 pt. I'll fabricate a subframe and mount it to the JD tractor.
But my main concern is the quality of the Taylor backhoe attachment(???).

Somewhere there is info on the different series of Yanmars. For example the prefix for greymarket tractors. The prefix for aftermarket. I notice most web sites just list the YM Series, the F Series and so on. What is the difference and how can you tell a gray market from a after market, if that is the right way to ask the question. I bought a reconditioned F17 according to the decal on the cawling. After I put 103hrs on it I was told it was a FX17D. Meaning a Yanmar with a powershift and 4WD and that is what it has. I need to buy manuals and I want to make sure I am getting the right info. Any help, thanks.<br>

This past winter it was close so I used the bucket to raise the front and lower the roll bar. For got that then I had the garage door to contend with so I backed out and lowered the rollbar! Such is life, just needed a little more time!

question regarding the old Fords - what kind of HP (particularly at the PTO) do they typically have? I have a small farm, maybe 5.5 acres of field to work (basically flat or slight grade). Mostly bush hog, some post holes to dig etc. Could an old Ford handle that? I have been shopping the NH and Kubotas, figure i need 25-30 HP. But i have seen many 9n's and 8n's for sale - and i know NOTHING about them. Any one with sound advice?
