Anyone out there have any idea why my power steering would start 'growning' when I turn the wheel(even when not moving), it began about 6 weeks ago, not real loud, but has been getting to be more of a noise as time goes on. I checked everything possible, but fluid is full and everything else looks good. I have driven Fords with power steering for over 20 years and never had this occur. It has about 93K on it and is a 4 wheel drive. 8 cylinder vortex engine - 4.6<br>
Any ideas would be appreciated. It does NOT turn any harder either, just makes the 'grown' noise.<br>

I'd have to say it is the original design and still the most sold design! I don't understand. Anyone that thinks they can force skid a drive axle and not induce undo wear compared to not doing it doesn't understand what is happening when they slid a four wheel drive tractor axle! People do do it I can't deny it, it is done but to say it is the best or even to try to say it doesn't hinder the life of tires or driveline components or steering linkage system is, never mind! Better off not said! Bet we can't wait for the new F-250 with independent brake petals for better navigation of irregular terrain! Two wheel drive narrow front end is a lot different then the four wheel drive turn. They normally could turn that tight with narrow front ends but needed the brakes to keep them from sliding. Many of the steering systems of the early row-crop tractors actually applied the brakes when turned so far.

I did something 'novel', I pulled the "cruise" attachment.
Very easy to do - about 10 seconds, start to finish.
I was told if this was done, a fire was not possible from this problem. I had over 90,000 miles on the truck - a 1998 F-150 4+4 that I purchased new. I really doubt I would have had to do it. If you check into how many trucks this occurred with (a fire) you will see it is small. I realize it is a potential problem, but after 90K and being my #3 truck out of 4, I wasnt going to have some dealer screw with it. If a fire happened to any of you - I do sympathize with you. Not much you can do now. Most people dont know that recall work for vehicals is one of the most profitable things a dealer gets to work on. I just couldnt justify it after driving it over 90K already.

I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 2500 with the Cummins HO. I put a fuel pressure gauge on the schrader valve on the injector pump each time I change the oil and about half way to the next change. It has been very gradually going down a lb. or two. I will eventually install a set of gauges to montitor fuel pressure, egt, and boost pressure but that will have to do for now. Thanks for the tip on Geno's kit. I will have to take a look at it.

wingwiper, NO WHERE in the 5th amendment to the constitution is "fair market value" mentioned, nor is it intended. "JUST COMPENSATION" IS called for and required by the 5th amendment. Just compentation is to make the injured party whole again.........meaning like for like replacement or genuinely agreed upon compensation.

America needs to get this "fair market value" out of their heads. Fair market value decided by whom????? How can you place a fair market value on an historic family estate or farm owned for centuries? I wouldn't take 3 times "fair market value" for my place as I could not replace it for that amount. I would take a replacement ranch in additionm to ALL of my costs to get there however. That would be just compensation.

I have heard the arguements about the bum who lives in a tar paper shack holding up a project for millions. Just not a rational arguement. If the public project is that important, then the public won't mind paying what it take to get the project done instead of stealing private property at gun point.

To remove the valve core you just need a very inexpensive valve core tool, probably about a buck.

The tractor power is not an issue. It only takes a few hp for the PTO to turn the drum. Weight is important, of course, if your 3pt can only lift less than the total weight of the unit plus the mud. Just put less mud in it. The deal killer is the tractor height. I like the idea (mentioned before) of a reversing gear box for the PTO. THAT would require a drum with flutes rather than paddles, however.

That's good to know, for the later models anyway. What's still unknown though, is whether the 70s-vintage Yanmar hydros and old 700-800 series JDs are as efficient as your 4115.

Thanks Art. What is the difference between the Grand L and L series? Would it make sense to buy this tractor over a new B7800 given the 6K savings? Most of my work will initially be to grade 5 acres, and later mow with a brush hog. Will I regret not getting the HYDRO?

One thing to check, so long as you are certain of the items that the dealer has put into it, is the glow ring itself. The glow ring is located at the far right of the dashboard.

It may be that the dealer was not familiar with the starting sequence of the older units. With these units, CONTRARY to the newer generations, the B_200 series utilized a left turn of the key for preheat, unlike the newer units that have a right turn of the key for preheat. If the left hand preheat was not used, and the key turned for starting, she will do nothing more than crank and smoke. Again, it is a spring loaded turn of the key to the LEFT for preheat.

If the preheat is functioning, the glow ring will turn a bright orange after a minute or so, perhaps longer with a weak battery. The preheat coil on the dash, is an indicator that the glow plugs are getting heated. A non glowing dash coil, means a glow plug circuit that is not getting heated.

The B_200 units were manufactured from roughly 1983 to 1995,(depending on exact model/unit number), not to be confused with the B7100 which had been resurrected in the nineties from it first run in the late '70s early '80s.

Anyone know what the 2007 Tacoma models have in store? I'm leaning towards the 4 cylinder if I get a 2006 since they are rated at about 15% better mileage than the 6. The Toyota 4 has the same power as the v6 in the Ranger and the Ranger has plenty of power for my needs.

Nice job! A great feeling, eh? My first engine rebuild didn't turn out so good. In high school I rebuilt a Chevy straight 6 235 cid with splash oiling. It never ran quite right - it was a little rough and reluctant to rev. My dad (a former GM employee) said I probably put the pistons in backwards. Apparently they aren't exactly symmetrical and I didn't know that.

Could I get a little advise? I own a Yanmar 1500D and the front axles were leaking pretty good. I replaced the front seals but only the right side stopped leaking, the left leaks worse than it did before! BTW, this side has the pitman arm off the steering attached to it. What now?

Tandem axle with brakes on both axles if available and about 7000lb capacity minimum but more then ten is over kill. Sixteen foot would be the minimum length deck.
