The big problem with any of those sorts of devices is that the front axle on a tractor pivots.

The only stability you have is the rigid rear axle, the same one you're taking the weight OFF of by putting a big load out in front of the bucket.

A tractor is also relatively narrow.

Let the SOPPF ("seat of pants pucker factor") strictly govern any use of such a device.

As the old saying goes "Locks are for honest people only, they don't stop crooks.".

I've seen some pretty strange stuff stolen, one job we were on lost several pieces, including a dozer that weighed 50+ tons and had a 12' wide blade, it even needed a special tractor trailer to even move it.

Most small stuff around here disappears on a tilt & load tow truck. So much so that the police will stop any flatbed they don't recognize that's on the road in the wee hours of the morning, whether it's empty or not.

You are in FLA and tilling there in the sand is nothing compared to red clay. You should be able to handle the larger KK gear drive unit. The Chain drive unit is made by Sicma.

As Ace said it can manifest itself in many ways, depending on where the gasket has failed, or the block or head has cracked.

You have already found some here think as much of their tractor as their first born.

I have two Kubota's a B and a M. I have a friend with JD another with NH (there is no Ford). No doubt we each are happy.

The first tractor I even purchased the salesman got under my skin when he pushed me on what I wanted to do. He would only talk very general about tractor until he got details on my needs. Then he worked back to the tractor. Was one of the most professional sales people I have ever known and I am in sales. Start with you wants and needs and let the equipment direct you. Regardless of the tractor you wll not like it if it will not handle the equipment you end up needing.

I think the solution is to make one out of someting flexable I have some 1/4 rubber strap I am going to make one from.

I was thinking of making one out of spring steel or maybe a heavy rubber bungie strap.
Another Idea is to use rubber fender washers on the bracket mounting bolts.
Another thought is to put a spring on the bolt that is on top of the strap.

I compared the Cub 5000 and the Simplicity and was shocked that the Kubota was actually less expensive it had a smaller engine 15 diesel vs 21 gas and it was 4 wheel vs 2 wheel drive. So far I'm very happy,

I've found a new bx1500 with a 54'' mmm for $6050 or $5700 without the mower.
That's a bunch less than Simplicity & John Deere Garden Tractors.
Why pay more for a lawn and garden tractor?

Before you even start it, drain every single drop of fluid and flush the hell out of everything; radiator/engine block, engine oil, front diff, creeper/shuttle, trans/diff, hydraulics/steering. Coolant flush for radiator/block naturally, kerosene for everything else. I use a fine mesh to filter what comes out, looking for big chunks. Use a large container to drain, more will come out than you put in. Flush twice if visual inspection so dictates. Change all filters, and refill with quality local coolant/lube products.<br>

Make sure the brake housings are clean and dry (best done with floorboards and fenders removed). Clean/unfreeze all grease zerks before attempting to apply a grease gun, then top up all grease points.<br>

Lawnking--The 5ft Landpride is the rake I am intrested in. Talking to the dealer the other day, I discovered that along with the gauge wheels, I get a blade that mounts to the front side of the rake to be used for spreading dirt and leveling. Did your rake come with this? If so, how does it work?

I'd make the insulation guy pick up the tab for the work to replace the fiberglass. He should have known better, and if worse comes to worse your contractors board will probably back you. You might speak with your building inspector too. I don't think you want insulation in the walls that has been wet. Maybe it will be OK, but you may not KNOW until it is too late. It also might settle in the wall cavities and leave an uninsulated space at the top.

It was really funny reading this post until I hit Mike's. Even what we as man think is a long life, it is only a vapor. You are only able to enjoy this life when you have prepared to leave it.

Why do all of us complain about our spouses (wife for me), cause we love them. Someone who means nothing to you may irrate you in traffic or such but that is so fleeting. I fully believe you miss a person in direct relationship to how much they meant to you.

As to the tissue, give or buy a very pretty holder for tissue to match each bathroom. Fill it once and guess what, that often works.

I must ask Iowafun, now just why were you squated down looking for a pot anyhow?

As to keeping the gorilla glue and tisse paper seperate, makes good sense to me.

I like good humor, it is by far better here than the Comedy Channel. Bet you guys have better "you might be a redneck" stories than Jeff F every thought of. Don't imagine he reads here do you?

Realizing this is an old thread until last post. Sure seems like a lot of them have been hit in last few days.

One point I did not see in any post was fire hazard. My Mom's house caught on fire due to cigar tossed into the pine needle mulch. That was it for the pine straw and hello red dyed mulch!

My driveway is only about 300 feet but I clear some other areas of my property as well. I had wanted to get a front mounted blower but ended up with a rear blower since that was available with the used tractor I bought. I have found it to be fine and I also find that I use the FEL an awful lot. This combination works great for me.

Had to add my reply here. I work in a Soils mechanics laboratory. We determine what compaction is needed and the rate of settlement on construction projects. Depnding on the lay of the land, and your soil type you may not need to get rid of 8'10" of soil. First and foremost is to correct any drainage problems before starting on your pad.
You may have to ditch or trench to redirect the water away from your pad. Save this material. Now remove your top soil with any organic material from the pad area. You can build up your pad area with soil (cheaper than gravel) (any soil as long as it doesn't contain organics). I would suggest using a plate tamper here you can rent one faily cheap. Compact in layers(lifts) no greater than 2-4". Sprinkle with water as you compact. the water addds in achieving maximum density. I would suggest using a landscape fabric on top of your earthen pad. Now you can add your gravel here. A word of caution, You do not want a pourous pad under your concrte when you pour. The water will drain out of the concrete from the under side and be weak. You should have enough fine material to compact your top layer very hard. THe organic topsoil you removed from the pad area can now be used around your pad to achieve the proper grade for drainage away from the base. Plastic can be added added underneath the slab before the pour. This will help your slab cure slowly. If you do a monolithic slab my suggestion would be to use rebaron the edges and thicker members. When curing your pad, let it dry slowly. Concrete reaches maximum strength in 28 days. The greatest strength is achieved in the first 5 days. Don't use any deicing salts on concrete for the first year or it will spall. Sorry about the long post but I really like to see a job well done that looks good and last forever. Most concrete cracking can be attributed to drying to quickly or a poor foundation (not enough compaction). You tractor doesn't exert enough compaction if you are more than 4 inches thick. Use a plate tamper, you won't be sorry.

Sometimes it helps to separate out the components.

If the FEL, PHD and brush hog are truly brand new and my guesstimates are correct, he is asking about $7500-$8000 for the used tractor. That is not totally out of line.

Next you should probably ask where the thing has been for the last 5 years or so and what happened to the original attachments. If there weren't any, find out what the tractor was used for.......

What brands of attachments are we looking at here? Is the FEL a Deere 410? How about the other stuff? What kind of tires does it have?

The 4100 Gear was a very slow seller as most folks wanted an HST. That should factor into the negotiations. They are very reliable machines.

I had one and liked it well enough, but it was complicated and labor intensive to operate, especially when doing FEL work.
