I had a similar event with my Ford F250. I was driving about 55mph and everything went dead for a second or two. No power steering. No power brakes or anti-locks. Dash lights went out. It was a loose/corroded ground cable.

I had a 1995 S10 blazer with anti-locks that went off all the time. If someone spit on the road and I braked going across it they would have gone on. To make a hard stop you had to stand on them! I did a bad thing by putting slightly larger than factory tires on it. I've had allot of cars/trucks since then and all the anti-locks have worked great. With them, you can stop faster on ice or partial icy roads. They are slower to respond in real hard braking on good roads. Learn to keep a safer distance between you and the next guy!

One thing I'd be looking into would be a front blower with a mile of roadway to clean. The rest is your desision just like Ken said to do, put a list together as to the jobs you want to do. Make it a list of everyday, weekly, monthly, yearly jobs. What you do everyday, or the most would be what the machine would be the most comfortable at. Buying to small might mean to much seat time to do the work you need done. To large and you might have to buy a smaller mower to finish.

Well, I finally got the engine light off on mine! I changed the PVC valve & gas cap (thanks Ken!) then took a paperclip & stuck it in the center hole of the computer outlet & whola...its off & I have drivent he truck about 1120 miles since & it is staying off!

Before I spent a penny, I would make sure the Gas Cap is secure and nobody tried to fill it with the engine running, I would then check all spark plugs and probably change them, make sure the cables were good so I would be sure there was No skipping that may have triggered the computer. I would then maybe replace the Oxygen Sensor. then I would disconnect the battery for ten minutes and reconnect it, which should reset the computer. Then I would drive down to the nearest Dodge Dealer and check out them NEW 1500 s with the 5.7L MDS "HEMI". The 300C, the Magnum and the Charger are all enjoying 25 mpg Hwy, with the same engine and they are RWD 4100 pound vehicles. The Grand Cherokee which is a 4WD is enjoying about 22 MPG, the 1500 should be over 20 and how much and IF would be based on whether you drive with your head stuck out the window listening to the sounds of that baby on acceleration or you drive like there is a raw egg between your foot and the gas pedal. Either way it is 345 HP and has power to spare and reliability that ONLY Dodge can offer. SMILE.... The Durango now has the MDS as well and if that ain't all good enough for you Tractor heads, how about the NEW 6.1L Hemi and the Challenger? 176 mph right out of the showroom. coming soon to a dealer near you......... I guess it depends if it is a dealer or private sale. There is another on Iron Search which is about the same price at a dealer. If the dealer has gone over it and added a waranty it is a OK price, if private sale I would be looking below 7500.

Not my first cars but, At one time (when I was 180 I owned a 1977 Pontiac TransAM, I believe it had the 401 (give or take) White with the big RED and Black Bird on the hood! HOT HOT HOT! All I can say, BUT, (Back in the day) I couldnt afford to drive it (JUST ANYWHERE) So I used that car as my chick pick (erupper) and my trusty old Pinto (1979) was my main mode of transportation. THIS how ever was ALSO white and RED. A cool sun roof and Red interior (Just like my TA) Could you imagine if you were a LAdy that I may of hooked up with on a Friday night (late) and gave a ride home in the Trans Am (white and red) and then the next Day maybe she see's me driving a with and red pinto? LOL Bet she woulda gave up drinkin for good. Figure maybe she was dilusional or something eh?

Before you buy it would do you well to look at the Kubota's. I'd recommend to look at comparables and the B-7800 is not really a good comparison. Yes it has a larger engine and it produces more horsepower but it is lighter! It's not meant to be as heavy of a tractor, life is great! This is not the best for an industrial duty unit to be doing loader work over fifty percent of the time on the clock. If it's main task is mowing with some loader work the Kubota will burn far less fuel as well as having a lighter foot print for less lawn destruction. I'd recommend looking at the grand L-series to be a more equal weight, loader work comparison or if you are looking for a good value then look at the L-2800,3400,4400 group. You'd be suprised!

If it was warm then it sounds like that there is a leaking o-ring. If it was below freezing then you might have moisture in your system amd your fluids would need to be changed.

Eric has a good point. If the oil was engine crank case oil, it would be pitch black unless you very recently changed it. Very well could be a hydraulic leak. Suggest you check your transmission oil level and look for the leak through out your hydraulic system.

The full waranty is till may and then another year on the power train, so it was sold in May 2004. It looks similar to the Hagarsville tractor. I am not sure the rear PTO has been used.
I forgot to ask where it was, but he normally leases one or two to the hunting clubs and they are returned about this time.
There is almost zero wear on the tires so it has not seen pavement.

I edited my last post with more information. Hope this gives you a starting point. Also check if the 35 has the mid PTO or rear hydraulic ports. These options are also worth something.

Forgot in my rewrite about the loader. Tilt the bucket about 30 degrees and lower it down to the ground on flat pavement. If one side hits first, the lift arms could be sprung. Many times it may touch a little more than the other because the ground isn't perfect. Big differences are what you are looking for from one side to another.

Thanks for the feedback.

We haven't tried anything to fix it yet. Since I just bout it, I wanted to try to get a feel for how serious/expensive the problem might be. I think I will go back to the seller and ask for some sort of compensation if it turns out to be more than something we can hadle on our own.

I don't know if this matters, but I was told that at one point it had a loader on the front. I don't know if the problems with the rear hydraulics started before, right after, or well after the loader was removed.

Thanks again for the suggestions, we will definately check the filter etc.

If you keep your eye open, you can still get them cheap. Some people don't know their potential. Suzuki Sidekicks and Geo trackers are the next step, but they have IFS and are not as capable offroad. But you can swap in their bigger engines with little trouble. JC

Only a screw or two depending on type of the valvewill get you there, what happens they catch all the condensation from the heat of the oil going thru the valve and cause moisture build up in the bottom area of the valve. To fill the end caps with grease during assembly has seemed to slow the process as we haven't had any comebacks on this practice. We currently have been doing it for about four or five years on all makes with good success. I would recommend fixing the valve first and there is a kit for it which would give you the new parts that are causing the problem. It's about one hour bench time to dissassemble clean and assemble.
