The person that came up with that idea has saved homeowners alot of money. Square D is the only brand I have seen them available for. They will work on the QO and Homeline series. The Homeline models are contractor grade loadcenters to compete with other brands. The QO series has been around for years. The lockout device will only work on QO models that the main breaker is mounted horizontial. If you have a QO loadcenter with a main breaker mounted verticle, you are out of luck.

The breaker used for the generator has to be in the top right two spaces of the loadcenter. The only part that makes you wonder how it got approved is the fact that it only works properly if the panel cover is secured to the panelbox. The lockout is mouted to the cover only. If the cover is off it is possible to have both breakers on at the same time.

If you plan to purchase one, keep in mind that you have to know if you have a Homeline or QO and also if it is for indoor or a outdoor loadcenter. The device is not universal.

If a gray market tractor has no ROPS, it's a dead giveaway that it is 21 or more years old. Except as exempted below, that's a reasonably universal statement.

From the horses mouth, unchanged since issued in 1984:
ASAE 5383.1 ROPS Regulations
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued these regulations for ROPS:

"Agricultural tractors manufactured after October 25, 1976, shall meet the following requirements:

1. A roll-over protective structure (ROPS) shall be provided by the employer for each tractor operated by an employee.
2. Where ROPS are required by this section, the employers shall:
1. Provide each tractor with a seat belt that meets the requirements of SAE standard J4C;
2. Ensure that each employee uses the seat belt and tightens the belt sufficiently to confine the employee."

Exempted Uses

* Low profile tractors used in orchards, vineyards or hop yards where the vertical clearance requirements substantially interfere with normal operations and their use is incidental to the work performed.
* Low profile tractors used inside a farm building or greenhouse in which the vertical clearance is sufficient to allow a ROPS equipped tractor to operate, and their use is incidental to the work performed.
* Tractors used with mounted equipment that is incompatible with ROPS (e.g., cornpickers, cotton strippers, vegetable pickers and fruit harvesters).

Definitions

Agricultural tractor means a two- or four-wheel drive vehicle, or track vehicle of more than 20 engine horsepower, designed to furnish the power to pull, carry, propel or drive implements that are designed for agriculture. All self-propelled implements are excluded.

Low profile tractor means a wheeled tractor possessing the following characteristics:

* the front wheel spacing is equal to the rear wheel spacing, as measured from the centerline of each right wheel to the centerline of the corresponding left wheel;
* the clearance from the bottom of the tractor chassis to the ground does not exceed 18 inches;
* the highest point of the hood does not exceed 60 inches; and
* the tractor is designed so that the operator straddles the transmission when seated.

I am wondering what the 4115 does that others don't and I have owned only Deere in the smaller tractors.

Personally I like the NH TC30 as a value tractor. The 790 is a little hard to get on and off of even if you are a small frame. If you are moving something like pine needles or rocks you will find it tiring. The flat deck is definately worth the money. With 10-15 acres I would recommend at least 25 Hp PTO so you can easily run larger equipment.

I also would not hesitate to look at a Kioti CK-30 if the price is right. Not everyone has a local dealer though. I am not sure how much you would save over the B7800.

What should I budget for a basic 72" standard duty box blade? I see Woods make a nice model, and I think the quote was around $750. Any other brands I should ask my John Deere dealer about? Seems like they always shoot me a high price first, and try to stick it to me.

Be mindful of what your tractor's 3pt lifting capabilities are. The weight of any given tiller may fall into the window of the tractor's abilities when dry, but get heavy wet clay mixed around the tines and you add ALOT more weight and potential for damage or injury if the tiller is too heavy to start with.

Although there are two schools of thought regarding covering a width that is wider than your track, or, having a narrower unit, with lighter weight with offset capabilities. Both ways work fine, however...

...your post stated that you will be doing sod cutting. This can be one of the most challenging tasks for a tiller, depending on conditions of the ground. You will be best to make a pass, then half dress what was just tilled on your return pass, while taking a half pass of untilled along with it, thereby always having at least half of the tiller width, engaged in a tillable soil content (short of the initial pass).

To make this easier again, in some cases, what I have done was to either bottom plow the area first or run my harrow thru the are first, just to "slice and dice" if you will, first. This makes it alot easier handling for the tiller, tractor, and you.

I have been running my tiller (BEFCO) for nearly 20 years. It has offset ability, as well as "overwidth" for my track. The beauty, its weight is half of Deere or Landpride, so it really does not come close to taxing the abilities of the tractor driving it hence allowing me to have a larger tiller. Yes, it is chaincase equipped, with slip clutch.

Just remember guys,

With the foldeable ROPS, comes a hidden danger - they are taller, and consequently when you are driving the unit into the garage or shed, remember your clearance! Too many have flipped, and/or wiped out headers or both without realizing in time.

For general landscaping chores, and beyond, the 19 hp that the 8200 offers, assuming in good running order, is more than capable.

Realize one thing - and that is there is NO comparing a 3cyl diesel 19hp engine with a 2 or 3 cyl gas engine in a small lawn tractor. One will achieve much more torque, power and certainly economics with the diesel, with power to spare for your applications.

Personally, I would go with the B7200. But...that's me.

A couple of questions for you to ponder besides Art's points -

1)Although you said you had a long drive, what type of terrain is the rest of the twelve acres? If it is "hilly", the 8N will offer a wider footprint and generally a lower cg, relative to the footprint.

2)Is the B7200 four wheel drive or two wheel drive? If it is 4wd, it will offer much more versatility in the long run,(implements, loader to install, etc), not to mention the added stability gained thru traction of the 4wd feature.

3)How much time will you be spending on it? The Kubota, though a different animal than today's versions, still are much more comfortable on the old behind than the old fords are.

Amongst others, I still have two B5200's (see pic), and would not give them up. I even prefer them in many ways over newer models - but like I said, they are two totally different animals from older to newer Kubota lines.

Also, Salt levels are likely to be high no matter what the pH is, so plan to use salt-tolerant plants. Some plants that are both salt and moisture tolerant include hollyhock, bee balm, violet, arborvitae, redosier dogwood, inkberry holly, and blueberry. If your field is well-drained, you might try including yarrow, columbine, chrysanthemum, delphinium, daylily, peony, clematis, wisteria, and rose. Use of fertilizer may be cut down for plants growing over a leach field because many of the salts are forms of N-P-K nutrients.

If you find it a little light in the rear because of lack of ballast if you go to a three point hitch ballast it will actually use the rear axle as a pivot and ighten the load on the front axle making it easier to steer.

Depending on the temps you get some of the Kubota engines will start down well below zero without a block heater. Some times just a trickle charger on the battery to keep it warm will be enough. The easiest installations are the factory heaters vs not knowing exactly what you need and having to run back to the store to pick up some pieces you might have forgot or need to modify your initial thoughts.

That's sort of the way it is with automotive engines. A moderate compression engine with no smog controls and in good tune can do very well on emissions tests. As the engine drifts out of tune the exhaust gets dirtier, so smog controls generally clean it up after the fact. Since manufacturers had to offer an emissions control warranty, whether or not the owner ever had engines tuned, they plastered on all sorts of abominations (EGR valves? Yech).

I just purchased a 3320 ehydro and I want to know if the Motion Match feature is a standard feature or a option. The JD website shows it as a feature and does not state it as being an option. All of the other ad ons specify the fact that they are options. I was expecting my tractor to be equiped with MotionMatch and it came without it. My dealer says it is a Dealer installed option that I will have to pay for. <br>
Can anyone clarify this for me? <br>

I ran a bigger manure spreader last spring with my JD 4310. It did fine with it. Wear a hood when spreading as it flings it everywhere. It was fun to watch. It was a borrowed spreader, so I am unsure of how big it is. But you won't need that much of tractor.
