Where in ct. did you purchase that tractor? Boy, it is hard to even find a dealer on the internet.

I've got a good friend who has been an independent garage operator most of his life and he will echo what has been already said about collection. He's just too nice of a guy to turn anyone away. He is still in business, but now requires a cash deposit on any parts before he will order them. He mainly works on cars and light trucks, So I will answer yes I do use a person who charges about half what the GM and Ford dealerships charge. I'm sure all of the above would apply to repair of compacts and their related equipment. Best of luck. Frank.

A good honest dependable / reliable reasonably priced independent mechanic can't be beat.
In 25 or 30 years of taking many cars and trucks to him I've only had to take something back to him twice. This compares with several cars I've taken back to dealers 2 or 3 times for the same thing because they didn't get it fixed right the first time. The bad thing is there were even cases where the dealer didn't get something fixed no matter how many times I took it back to them.
Warranty work is a joke in a way. You take the car in to fix something they don't get it fixed you make trip after trip back trying to get them to take care of the problem till the warranty period expires.
In 25 to 30 years He's saved me a lot of money over going to a dealer.

Most recent Example >Yesterday He put new drive belts a water pump new timing belts and a new bearing in the AC pulley on my 1989 Dodge D50 pickup. Cost me $218.09 Tax and all.
The Dodge dealer wanted $300.00 before tax. just to do the timing belts.

I have always paid him when I pick up the car/truck - He's to valuable to loose because he didn't get paid!

I've got a 2003 Grand L3130-HST and the only time I notice a prominet tin-e whine is if I have forgotten to release the brakes or have left the bucket dug in to the ground and tring to move fwd or bkwd. Kind of lets you know your doing something wrong.

It is not the most pleasent way to spend the holidays. I hope you are all recovering well. It happened to me 20 years ago before I got married but lasted from before Christmas to after new years. Maybe it was an omen?

i am not a pro but have a tractor the same size as jd655 and would not put any back hoe on even with sub frame it is just to hard on machine i have had very good luck with self powered back hoes. they can dig better and faster with about half the cost if you do some of the work your self and you dont have to put extream wear onyour tractor. check out www.cadplans.com i built the 9 foot dig model it was very impressive for the size and money. good luck either way.

I purchased a Jinma 284 earlier this month from an Oregon dealer (saved a considerable amount on Calif sales tax). The rig included a US FEL, 9" post hole digger, and a five foot box scraper - both US made. Delivered to my house for $10,000. So far, so good. I've used the tractor to reconstruct my 1/2 mile long driveway - just before the current storm hit. Make sure a tractor in the crate offers a sufficient savings and see if the dealer will upgrade the FEL to a US made unit.

kwschumm, thank you for the site on roads. I just looked through it and that is what I needed and I put in in my favorites for refference. I looked for books but they were mostly engineering books and not geared to the subdivision/farm road crowd like me.
Grinder, I have thought about going to the highway dept shop and talking to them. I think I will do that this coming week.
When I got my tractor last summer I started doing the road. I know some about crowning the road and ditching it. Nothing has been done to it except grading and gravel since the subdivision was started in 4/1998. It was a gravel farm road then and still is because all the lots are zoned ag2. I have started ditching my property first. I didn't want to mess up the neighbors land untill I knew what I was doing. The main reason for the tractor was to keep the road up.

I can't help you with the L series machine, but if you do some careful measuring and shopping, you should be able to find a set of radial SUV tires for the rear of the 2400.<br>

I have run such tires for nearly five years now with great success. You didn't say what you are running now, but there is a HUGE difference in ride quality between R-4's and a similar sized radial tire with about 10 PSI on-board.<br>

If you are running R-1's now you won't find anything on the car/truck market that will handle mud and slop as well, so there is a down side. But do keep in mind that there is no easier machine to chain up than an open wheeled tractor.<br>

I purchased a used Gehl 4510 skid loader. It had been repowered with a 2.2 Isuzu diesel from a small pickup truck. Unfortunately, while the repower was a pretty good fit, the diesel is dying. Has anyone else had experience with this repower, or know where to find another of these engines or a short block? The engine was used in 1981-85 Isuzu Pups and 81 to 84 Chevy Luvs. I would love to hear of anyone else running this engine in this machine. Overall, the Gehl machine is ok, mine was just a boat anchor when I bought it and I should have bought a better one!

Hey guys, thanks for the info... for the most part my driveway is flat, just have a slight grade going up to my house. It is gravel driveway for now so I will have to keep the blower lifted a couple inches till it packs down with ice or else I will be picking stones up out of the yard for days come springtime. I will have to let you guys know how it works when we get some snow...

That sounds exactly like what I'll be trying to do this spring. When you posted "shims" I thought you were referring to the JD shim kit that is welded to the front horizontal arms where the adjustment bolts are, sorry. It took me a lot of research to find what the shim kit was that everyone was referring me to.

A 72" box blade would be fine for that machine. You've got plenty of power to pull it.
