Merry Christmas to you all.
Had a great Chrissy, family made it over in time for Christmas Day (father in-law pilots for UPS - 747's so you are never sure if he will make it). Biggest bonus - did not have to spend all day in the kitchen - WOW!

Sorry I did not make it any plainner than I did. I thought the dealer made a very strong effort. Made me feel bad for the work he put into it. They have blood hound noses it seems.

I have always been told do not put water (what ever solution you desire) in front tractor tires. Never given a reason. This morning was looking at a right new tractor and told the guy you probably will need weights on your tractor to which I was told not with the water in the front tires. His was install by Kubota dealer. My brother has also run water in his front tires (bigger Massey). My Kubota dealer told me do not put water in them. <br>
Any idea why you should not run water in the front tires or if it is truly okay?

I'm not green bashing, I'm just asking.

I've read of fair number of JDs (all 4000 series?) having this problem, including my BIL three or four years ago. What is the main cause of it? Are the charging rates too high, is there too much alternator voltage, or is it just a bad choice of battery for the application?

Beagle hit a truth to me on mine and one reason I don't notice whine that much...I always wear ear protection. When I rev up my motor for the HST and mower, it will affect your hearing.

I have a 48" KingKutter RFM. Available from TSC and other KingKutter distributors. A little small for our tractor, but I offset it to one side and it works fine.

KingKutter has them available in the XB-line, which makes them a good match for the Sub-compact tractors. You won't save any money, but might be a better fit for you tractor.

I'm with chief on the extended warranty. Running the tractor low on hydraulic oil can be very harmful. The hydraulic fluid is also the lubricating oil for the entire drive train. You want to be sure you get covered.

Checking the hydraulic oil level can be a little misleading on the dipstick. With the 7800, and some other models, you need to "dip twice" to get an accurate reading. When you first remove the dipstick, it can look dry. Insert the stick a second time to get an accurate reading of the oil level. For you to run the machine out of oil, you would need to leak almost 4 gallons of oil. Possible, but you would have probably noticed it before you lost that much.

Make sure the dealer is involved with whatever you do.

The low prices I was referring to on ebay was the buy it now price. One was $3800 US dollars. This was for sail in Canada. I ques the old saying is true here, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

Lots of various types so chains. Perhaps some of the other members might able to comment on how theirs worked. The V-bar duo grips appears to be the most versital looking but I would think actual performance on the job may be another story.

Those that have used the synthetic oils, did you use the oil change recommendations of the oil? I "assume" syn diesel oil has longer change periods.

15" Plastic (HDPE - high density poly)with 36" of cover is more than adequate. HDPE is a great product. You could get away with 18" of cover as long as heavy traffic was infrequent an it was haunched with select fill instead of pit-run. You'll never have a problem. You might however consider placing an end-section on either end, and perhaps 10' of medium stone rip-rap to prevent silting. Also, just make sure you have 4 to 6 inches of compacted pipe bedding material under the pipe before it is placed. Otherwise, you may get sag in the middle when the dozer (or tractor) places, and compacts the first few feet of pit-run. Good Luck.

I agree with Steve. For many questions there may only be one correct answer. In the case of using advice to try and solve a problem that could result in a very expensive fix (if the advice is wrong) I suggest the same as Steve. I usually ask a question here, then evaluate all responses.
I will then decide if any answers are the "one for me". Some questions may only have one correct answer but many many others may be solved by many ways to attack a problem.
Look at my hornet help question. (Not really a good comparison) but if I did use the wrong advice it could of stung me in my bee-hind!
To use advice from the internet for something that would be permanant may be very risky.
IMO To answer your question, you don't know but hopfully someone may shed some light on it and hopefully give you a great "fix" for the problem.

Paul, the detent balls have more then likely fallen out of place and need to be reistalled at the least after being assulted with a hammer! They do have a kit for this and I hope you didn't break the housing itself.

There is a new oil in the NH line-up and it is the same as the Case-IH Ultra Hytran. Good oil and about a 10 to 15 weight. It is not syntentic but has been used in hydro's for about 30 years with good success.

The 790 is essentually the same tractor with a larger HP engine. The new 790 4x has a dual stage clutch. They may be using a new transmission for this, but this is recent. Like Randy said this would likely require 1/2 the tractor in parts to convert.
How many hours are on it? I sold mine 5 years ago for 8.5K with loader and 400 hrs.
