Ann, I must again disagree, you are co-mingling TWO DIFFERENT hazards and coming up with one answer.

What you are talking about is ground fault.

If you have a generator with no ground, and then open the ground neutral bond at the service entrance, you will have an electrified house with no ground at all! Further in fact, you will have disabled all the GFCI circuits, so now you have the very real possibility that someone is holding a defective electrical appliance in the bathroom, and reach out to turn on the water. Guess what? That person just became a path to ground via the water pipe!!!!

In this situation, yes, leaving the neutral / ground bond is mandatory, if only for the safety of people in the house. But it will potentially still be very dangerous somewhere else.

What I am talking about is Transient Voltage.

No matter what the ground system is in your generator, the neutral & ground wires are bonded together at the electrical service entrance to your house, if you then open the two load lines and power up a generator, you ARE creating a voltage potential in the neutral / ground line. PERIOD.

It does not matter where the ground / neutral bond is made, generator or panel, it is still there, and the genset will still create voltage potential somewhere down the grid.

Grinder, burn down the house, no, definitely not, a linesman, possibly could get a jolt, anything between "Oh sh#$" and fry, no way to tell until it happens. Some places allow the use of something called a "gang switch", basically a big handle which activates 3 separate switches simultaneously. Before this can be used however, it is critical that a second ground rod be installed so that the wiring in the house remains grounded after the neutral / ground bond is broken by the gang switch.

I too was disappointed with the industrials any time I happened to be in or on ice snow or clay. But they are an excellent choice for yards, meadows and forest lanes. My solution was to install chains when working in the "rough".

To answer the statement about Slick 50, I believe they say it is formulated with teflon, if I'm wrong please let me know. Teflon can only adhere to metal at a minimum of 800 degrees farenheit. All of us know what happens to an engine that reaches that temperature, it only happens once, if you know what I mean. Teflon will only adhere at that temperature, and only if it is surgically clean. Therefore, any additives containing teflon are useless and will not benefit you at all. If you stick with a high quality synthetic from the get go, you will be way ahead than with any additives. Most additives will actually break down the molecular structure of the motor oil therefore reducing the filmstrength and benefits of any oil you are using. STP is a good example. Basically STP is a 380 weight oil, therefore, after adding STP and letting it sit for a day or so. it will be at the bottom of your oil pan, and try pulling up a 380+ weight oil through an oil pump, especially in the winter time. Its a scam along with all the other additives such as Slick 50, Prolong, and STP. If you do some deep research you will see. Anything can be advertised very well, however, wouldn't you want that money put into research and developement? That is where Amsoil comes into play. They don't waste time and money on advertising, they put it into R&D. Therefore, they can provide an exceptional product which nobody can compete with.

Yes Mobil 1 has Poly Alpha Olephins in its base stock, but not enough to call it 100% synthetic. They only have enough in it to call it a "FULL Synthetic". Unfortunately, in this country, there are no standards to what a company can call a "synthetic", however, there are standards to what a company can call a synthetic "100% synthetic."

Good luck. I tried a 200W Kat's heater on my JM254 oil pan, and it was useless at those temps. No way to efficiently transfer heat through those bottom fins, and no practical side location. I ended up using the heater on the starter housing instead - and if I had to do it all over again, I'd have gotten the 300w size for THAT job too. In my experience, magnetic heaters may be handy - but they're horribly inefficient for the amount of power they consume.

LOL Its funny your still talkin about this subject! I think it is a stinging matter of fact!
I went out to my shed this week. You all know the one!!! The one that I saw while cutting grass (way back in the back yard) that had 20 or more a minute flying in and out of? Anyway, I open her up for the first time since early summer. I look up in the ceiling!!! NOTHIN!!! WOW I was amazed! No big huge basketball sized nest haning from the roof!
NOW HERE IS THE KICKER
This is exactly what I woulda done if I opened her up at NIGHT! RIGHT? Look up to the inside roof with a light? ALL the time I woulda been in serius trouble becaue that "Basketball" sized nest I was looking for in the roof woulda been right at my feet!!!!! when I opened the door! (never saw this in my life) This nest was wrapped around a lawn edger on the wooden FLOOR of my shed! About the six of a basketball. I woulda walked right into the dammm thing! I know it cause I never look down when entering a out building in the summer months!

I got a question? My other shed has never had a wasp or hornet in it? It is metal BUT I also have 3-4 gas cans in it. The smell (gas smell) is profound in this shed. Is this a reason that they do NOT go in this little 10x12 shed or is it because it is a metal rood shed?

I had one young man with an honours degree in chemistry to whom righty tighty lefty loosy was a new concept. I paid him like MacDonalds for two years while I trained him. He was worth the time, but had be raised by his mother and been allowed to play computer games and not much else. He understood his limitations, some don't and I guess they make them officers now?

I too have been eye'n the tractors at Rural King. Can somebody fill me in on who makes this tractor? Is it a Jinma? Has anyone bought one from Rural King? Pro's vs con's? I priced a Farm Pro 40 hp for $ 11,050 and a Rural King 40 hp for $ 8,500... What is the difference (besides price) in these two machines?

there is specific chapters in the nec on multi.outbuildings for farm use. local codes will superseed nec. for nec specs you do not need the ground wire for each building they will be treated as own sep. service and 2 grounds 6 feet apart. 6 throws of the hand still applies for any service.

I was watching the news and a brief report showed up about someone turning there tractor into a fire engine. This was someplace out in CA. The picture looked like a new holland compact. I'd like to find out more just because it looked interesting. Please post a link if anyone knows about it.

I'm not sure how hard it would be to mount and unmount. Their grapple takes about one minute to swap between bucket and grapple with the JD loader quick attach method. I'm sure it's well built and expensive though.

Thank you all for your input so far from everyone. To reply in general to some of the input:
If I had that much cash lying around, I would certainly consider used, however I will need to finance and NH rates are pretty good. I am not going to borrow against my house for this, as per I will only do that for improvement projects...(i.e. roof, redoing rooms...so on). Some used prices are good, many I have found are not. For instance, I found a 2001 TC18 hydro, with 54" MMM, and FEL, cant remember the hours, but looked to have sat outside for its life per faded paint and large dent in the top of the hood, and they were still asking $11000.00 for a unit of this age and condition and HP.
Boomer, the 33's you found were priced well, just cant buy outright though, thanks for the research!!
I thank those of you who explained the uses for your machines and your land; wr5evk8j, your uses that you are using the DX for are exactly what I will be doing..no joke, tilling, and planing a slight noll in the back yard, and that might only be a half acre to one acre...not much! Great pics of you in action as well, very helpful.
On another note, I went back out to the dealer and tried out the Gear drive TC24. Not a bad unit, didnt mind the gear drive till I engaged the blades on the MMM. Being Live PTO, meaing that every time that you stepped in on the clutch, that disengaged the blades as well as stopping the tractor! This will be a nusiance when cutting grass in some somewhat tighter areas where reversing and forwarding are going to be done. That is the only factor holding me out, besides the when I went to talk turkey about the price, and really try to negotiate, dealer only came down 300 bucks off of total price to (17056.00) that is out the door FEL MMM tractor.

(see first post for price break down on TC24DA).

Looked at Kubota BX's and I dont believe I will go that route for several reasons that I noticed, those of which I will keep to myself not to offend any Kub owners here. Thats not how I play ball. I will try getting to my areas only Kioti dealer around here and see what those are about. Thus far I am very impressed with NH engineering and ergonomics of these compact and sub-compact units....
I will keep you all posted. Hopefully will have an order in by next...or just before Christmas!

Harvey, like every thing else we talk about here, a back hoe instead of a shovel, a back blade instead of a walk behind snow blower, I realize this can be done with out a planter. I have been planting for 4 years with out much equipment at all. Untill recently (2 years) with out a tractor that worked. The time need to learn this stuff is before I buy it. The precious time I have left on this earth has nothing to do with the reason I need to learn this stuff fast. Besides. I need the corn to actually look as good as it grows (Its a personel thing). LOL
