Frank, the interesting thing that this guy does is use solar panels in the field on pallets to recharge the batteries during down time. He does admit that the cost of the solar panels undermines the return on investment for his idea. It is not economical - but amazing that a 50 year old tractor can be converted to electric - recharged with solar - and still get useful work done. Joe

I think the TRUCTOR is ideal for the guy that has everything and just wants one for the sake of it.

Beyond that, it looks like a good idea at the surface but after analyis:
- it really isn't a road worthy truck (in the US).
- the box payload capacity is too small.
- as a tractor the rear wheels are too small for good traction.
- feel visibility is a concern.
- The wheelbase is too long for sharp cornering, etc.
- As an ATV or RTV it is too heavy and too wide.

For the price, you can purchase a 30 HP CUT and also buy an RTV and have two vehicles with possibility of a wider range of uses. Another concern would be local parts and local dealership support since it is a totally new think in the market.

I'm sure there are specific applications or uses but in my opinion as a combination utility vehicle it doesn't make it for the average user. I'm not trying to be negative nor hostile. I still think it is kinda cute but not all that practical.

From my perspective, it's better to start up a stone cold diesel with already warmed oil. Before you invest in a tank heater, consider that the oil pan is at the very bottom of the engine - and that heat rises. As such, an oil pan heater will have a residual effect of warming the water too - at least that already in the block. If you keep your 254 in the shed, a 125W Wolverine ($45) should be adequate for your oil capacity. If it stays outdoors, the 250W is only $15 more. A good anti-freeze mixture will take care of the rest<br>

I (and my wife) have used a 33 inch mower, CUT with a 72 inch RFM and zero turn to cut yard from 1 1/2 acres with few trees to 2 acres with oaks and pine trees.
If you are after grass cutting the zero turn is the way to go period. The z turn is hard or dangerous to use on wet hill sides that others handle okay. Your front wheels do no steering and will not prevent side slipping on a slope. You are steering and driving with the two rear wheels only. So, turning cuts down on pulling up a hill, add wet and you may not make it.
I have a 52 inch Z turn and can cut our two acre yard with about 50 trees or shrubs in it in 30 minutes or so less than the hyrdostat trans CUT with the 72 (20 inch bigger) RFM. Also cutting closer to tress and such. I found a lot of variance in quality of Z turns. Mine was $4400, not considered that comppany's professional model but has deck and spindles that matches many professional models.
Yes, z turns are the most fun in grass cutting out there. My only complaint, my wife has decided she can operate the z turn and does very well, putting me back on the CUT or trimmer. I have found changing the blade difficult on the z turn. You will need ramps or floor jack to get deck up enough.

Because "horsepower" and "power" are not the same thing at all, the resulting 'horsepower ratings' are also very different.

Horsepower is a blended or averaged term, it is the result of RPM, times Torque, and then divided by a factor, in this case 5,252.

As a result of this blending, a pair of engines, one gas, one electric, can produce very different types of "power" but still have exactly the same amount of "horsepower".

As an example, to demonstrtate this a little better, if an elctric motor runs at 1,750rpm, and produces 30 ft/lbs of torque, and a gas engine was runs at 3,500rpm, but produces only 15 ft/lbs of torque, they are both rated at 10hp. But which one do you want to put on a high load application?

It's sort of like the difference between a weed-whacker and a big bore one cylinder 4 stroke, both are rated at the same 'horsepower' but which one makes more grunt?

You are correct. The 54" deck on my BX1500 is a "floating" type and the 60" on the B7610 is ground engaging, but the problem is more a function of the deck width not as much the way the deck is mounted (although that certainly does make a difference). If the high and low spots in the ground are less then the span between the caster wheels or shorter than the deck is from front to back, the deck can still scalp or leave uncut grass. If your lawn is reasonably flat it's not an issue. I'm just lazy and haven't gone through the effort of leveling some of the really uneven spots in my lawn!

What all you guys say makes a lot of sense. I was unaware of lockup torque converters but I'm old school. My assumption was that the EPA test may not take into account the operators abilities. Oh well, I have to get my '92 Pickup to 250,000 mls. before I start thinking about something new.

When I grew up we had a 4 row planter and pulled it with a Farmall Super "C". I think the "C" only had about 23-30 HP. Granted the newer planters may have heavier frames. You will want to pull something with a setup where the rows fit between the tires so you don't compact the soil over the row. The 40 has really big, wide tires.

Any good farmer has his stuff stored in a shed out of the weather. I won't buy anything that has been out in the weather, except if it were at the road being sold.

The bare tractor and cab with single valve with the 16.9-28 rear tires is 34,322. The La1002 loader starts at 4820 and the bucket is 648 for the standard which goes to the Kubota Qt not the standard skid steer. That would add about 600 dollars to the cost.

The dealership reports they have found the cause of the blown dash fuses on my B3030. They reported the following: "Our technician ran the tractor and also blew 4 or 5 10amp fuses. He removed the steering wheel, the instrument meter cluster, the lower panel and found a pinched wire on the steering housing. He repaired the wires and reinstalled everything. Tested the tractor and NOW its running GREAT."

E-85 outlets are becoming more common so it would be nice to be able to use it. I'm not really ready to trade pickups for an E-85 ready one so I wondered first of all what is different about the fuel system and second if there is a kit or something to convert my pickup an 04 Chevy small V8. Since you asked, my neighbor just got a new 2210, 200CX loader and deck for 12,700 vs. your $14,438. You can buy a 2305, 200CX loader, and deck for around $13,500. The Cab is the most expensive item you purchased, because it sells for arount $2,200 (unassembled) and you are being charged roughly $1,300 for set up. You can buy a Woods backhoe for $5300, which is less than yours but not set up.

The TC-30 is the same price as the TC-24 here $10,800. I would not be afraid of a used NH tractor.
Another option would be to look at a Korean Kioti etc. The CK-25 would likely be less than the TC-24 and provide the creature comforts.
I had a 19 HP tractor and found the lack of power limiting.

I am an owner of a Kubota L2950 tractor with about 1500 hours. I notice using it today that the charging idiots lights were on. I checked and the belt was on the altenator. I was looking for the voltage regulator but was unable to find it. Does anybody know what the problem is?

You can run straight K-1 but it should have a lubricant added to it. Usually about 1-2 quarts of oil per 5 gallons works well. The military run most of its diesel equipment off of straight JP-8 which is much more refined and has a lower lubricity than K-1. 50/50 K-1 & #2 diesel works and is much cheaper. Power Service in the white bottle is cheap insurance too.

Magnetic heaters trade efficiency for convenience. I'd stick it on the side of the hydraulic sump that's closest to the suction strainer. And in your neck of the woods, AW32 is definitely the hydraulic fluid of choice.<br>

I'd get an oil pan heater for the engine oil - I highly recommend the Wolverine - and make sure there's a fresh crankcase full of 15W40 oil<br>

All good advise, thank you. I definitely notice the tires spinning and sliding on hard pack snow; I noticed it last year too.

Art, I almost bought a rear blower during the summer but decided against it, mainly because I have not gone through a winter in the house yet and don't want to buy the wrong piece of equipment.

I think I'll look into chains and hope that they will helkp me get through the winter.

To chain or to not chain that is the question

I might also add that the TC33 that was speced for me was Hydro, and had SuperSteer with sensitrack as well...which I know adds a chunk to the price....forgot to add on previous post.....
