Huh? While it is true that you can view the signal on an oscilloscope, frequency measurement is far more accurate and safer with a ground-isolated (battery-operated portable) frequency counter. Connecting an oscilloscope to a generator or other A/C power source is dangerous since the case of the instrument is grounded to one of the leads. Hook it up wrong, and you'll risk electrocution and equipment damage.

But then, what do I know? I only have an MS in electrical engineering. :)

thanks everybody for the replies. I've sent for the owners manuel but haven't got it yet. I callrd the JD number and finally got nice young girl and got her to email a parts manuel for that mower. Really helped for it did have a diagram of the belt routing. Thanks again everybody. Ted Cary

sounds right to me. Remove the shift tower and you will see 3 sliders for the forks. Make sure you are on level ground and brakes set. Push in clutch and remove any torque pressure, on trans, and move the out of line slider so all the slots line up. If the problem persists you will have to weld a better nub on the end of the shifter.

This is not complicated and very straight forward.

If you know you are going to get it back in the trench quickly. Laying out PE sheeting (thicker not very thin) and then placing the soil on the sheeting helps you pick it back off the grass and get it back in the trench. The soil takes a while to recompact so you really need the soil later or you end up with a depression.

Nope. Oliver hasn't sold yet. Haven't had anyone come look t it either. I'd really like to get it sold. My company is being bought out. Expectations are the sale will be complete in early spring. So I'd really like to have the cash from a sale in the bank as I may be unemployed in 4-6 months.

Well to me it may means there is a little hope. In reading Briggs and Daihatsu have been working together on engine design and fabrication. They built a new plant in Japan for the commercial engines. I think some of the improvement in the Briggs engines such as the V twins is part of this process. Having worked on British equipment one of my biggest fears is that we continue to develop the not invented here attitude. Ever worked on a Sea Gull Outboard? It looks and runs like 30's Johnsons.

Noise is not occuring when engaging or disenaging the 4WD. Problem seems to be triggered by driving over uneven ground. When the front wheels go over even a slight bump I hear the metallic popping or clicking sound.

Definitely sounds like the clutch disk or disks are stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate of both. What you said about bumping it into a something solid with the cluth pedal fully depressed may break the clutch disk free. BEFORE you try this, see if you can gain access to the clutch assembly via an inspection of cover panel and ensure that one of more of the clutch diaphram fingers is not broken or pivot bolt hardware has fallen out. This can cause the same problem. Once you have the clutch broken free, it is best to store the tractor for any length of time with the spacer block holding the clutch pedal slightly depressed so as to hold the clutch disk, flywheel, and pressure plate apart and unlikely to rust together.

I was just wondering if anybody has bought a 2520 JD yet? I have been looking at them on the JD site and I have been wanting to upgrade to a slightly larger tractor. I have a 2210 at the moment. Please let me know how you like it and any pros and cons about it would be helpful. Thanks, Dallas...

You probably have your tractor by now, but I thought I'd jump in with one more piece of advice! One of the main funtions of a tractor is loading, and the Deere has the best loader. If you're a bad loader like me, and ram the pile (wham, bam, ...) then you can just leave the load match and motion match on and you'll never use that diff lock pedal. You can also control your roll-out and change that from the dash console. Also the X-loader comes off while you're sitting in the seat in less than a minute (I've done it) and the bucket is a shoe type model so other than standard buckets can be picked up easily. Also if you leave these two buttons turned on and are towing on a drawbar or dragging a rotary cutter and get into rought stuff or go uphill the tractor won't need to be range shifted --it will adjust the RPM for you and may slow down a bit but will keep right on going forward.
The frames on these buzzards are tough, pretty mighty axles. The best thing is the support Deere gives their customers-for instance parts: any parts not available locally be ordered and delivered in one day. You can view all the parts diagrams online, and owners manuals for current models.

AM128048 is still a good part number, however, you may have gotten an AM124498 if you went to a dealer, couldn't remember whether your deck was a 38 or 42 (both of which are two-blade decks) and told them you had a two-blade deck on an lt155. The more common deck is the 42". The AM128048 is for a 38" deck and does have a grease zirc.

I'm going to post my theory on the 2 filter set up. Now this isn't verified, just one bored engineers theory on why they did it.

The hydrostat is a "closed loop" hydraalic circuit, with a variable displacement pump and Hydraulic motor. The charge pump adds fluid to the closed circuit to to account for losses in the system. It still feeds off the same resevoir as the utility and steering system, but is designed as a closed loop. I suggest they have a seperate filter on the transmission as part of the closed Hydrostat loop. It makes some sense. The hydrostat operates at a different fluid pressures and flow volumes than the rest of the tractor hydraulics, so should be filtered seperately.

Again, just my take on the set-up. I for one like the 2 filter approach.

The SHO sites are great. They helped me find an intermittent problem with the mass airflow sensor that the dealer couldn't find. A 50 cent piece of wire.
