Murf there are some of the cheaper unit's out there that don't offer sides's past the augers! They are a safety problem as well as won't handle lengthening the top link. Those unit's are a top link shortening only!

Ken, this is the battery I used. It fit like a champ. How well the hold down strap works remains to be seen but I think it will work out well.

If the were "used" by a nursery and returned then they suer as hell are no where near new. I would also be very surprised that they would still have full warranties. All the tractors that were leased from the dealership that I used to work at were used when they came back. Lease return cars are not sold as new. He is blowing smoke so thick I am surprised you could even see him.

Most of the rfm I have worked on have a stepped up gear box on them. That steps the 540 up to 1800 - 2000 rpm. That is why I said just eliminate the gear box. But the jack shaft idea is a good one too.

I bought the 300cx with my 4310 last year, and am very happy with it. When I bought it, I was like you, believeing I only needed a FEL for light-duty work. The dealer gave me a good deal on the 300cx (3k-3.5k I believe). I am very glad I decided on the more heavy-duty FEL. I use it for everything... and probabl some things I shouldn't.... but I've never regretted the upgrade.

Well, another six months has passed. I removed the deck from the tractor, cleaned it up and measured the blades (again) in order to give the dimensions to Specialty Small Engine in Illinois for their Gator Blades. The Pilot hole on my blades is 7/8 inch. The Pilot hole on the blade that was closest to mine (For an X-Mark) was 5/8 inch. They said I could have a machine shop re-drill the holes to 7/8 inch but I don't want to do that. Also, the blades they talked about were only .203 inches, not 1/4" as mine are.
They also said that to make it worth their while to set up the machinery they had to sell about 7500 blades. They didn't feel they would be able to do that with my particular mower and so could not foresee manufacturing a blade for my mower deck. I'm disappointed. I guess I finally give up on Gator Blades.

Turf tires have lots of potential for side slip. Especially if the air pressure is high.

Check make sure you do not have to much air in them. Any tire if it has too much air will reduce your traction wether across or up and down the slope.

Limit your operation on slippery slopes. Use chains in the winter etc.

$I would take that post down. I am not convinced Mr. Laney knows what he is talking about, even if he was cleaning tank engines. Diesel fuel value is normally rated in cetane value. Straight cetane = 100. Cetane is n-hexadecane 16 carbons long. Gasoline is n-octane or 8 carbons. I have no idea where he gets septane (7 carbons) from. In a good distillation column you would not get septane with the n-hexadecane fraction. They may blend in lighter fractions for #1 but I have never seen a rating on a diesel.$ Diesel Exhaust

gator... it will work fine.

You can always drive a hundred feet with the blower off and "plowing" and then hit the PTO switch for a few seconds or use the FEL for the real light stuff.

Yep, the pain is worth the gain, my dad had part of his carved out because he would not listen to the doctor regarding these tests.

The quick method is a bottle of soda, some pills and drink water starting late in the day. Can't recall if it was six or nine PM as I only did this one time three years ago. The first time I drank the gallon of swill with the process beginning at noon.
