Thanks for the terminology lesson Murf! The pintle hook I'm using has a ball on the bottom and a hook that closes it up on the top. Is there a better style hook? The I.D. of the lunette ring is at least 3", I'm thinking it might even be larger. There's a ton of slop in this setup. I do need a hitch that won't come unhitched in any condition since I back up/down hills and go over some pretty rough ground with the chipper.

There was a guy on one of the "Off Grid " forums that had a diesel generator to supply power to his house. He claimed to burn nothing but used ATF fluid that he got for free from the trammission shops.

I still have not installed the parts -- there are so many things I am trying to get done in anticipation of moving into the new house, I haven't taken the time to tackle the project. Once I move in, I'll make the modification.

My anti-sway bars are really bent. I think it is from usng my 5' RFM and mowing across a hill on a regular basis.

Most of the materials we purchase are by competitive bids and in the last year or so the bid responses have an adder for metals and now fuel surcharges.<br>

We have an annual contract with a manufacturer of single phase pole and pad mount transformers. Last year I received an email about adding a surcharge to our current order. I refused to accept the surcharge because the contract didn't allow for surcharges. The current contract has a metals surcharge statement.<br>

It's wrong for you and I as the consumer to pay higher costs because the Chinese want our metal and in turn create shortages resulting in higher costs. I feel this is a fault of the Republican administration, as generally speaking the republicans support and cater to big business.<br>

However, the situation with the hurricanes and the shortages related to the rebuild would have happened anyway.<br>

As a local utility we haven't increased our rates nor do we add adjustments for metals and fuel. However, we do pass on fuel adjustments from our supplier and surcharges in some instances are passed on to the customer.<br>

I should have built a couple of years ago, but hindsight is always 20/20.

John,

I think you meant the 5103 tractor of the 5003 series machines. I have dislexic fingers as well. ;O) In my opinion, these machines are among the most reliable tractors Deere manufactures as there are among the most basic in design which is not such a bad thing in my view. Depending upon the applications you are considering, particular front end loader duty; you may want to go with one of the 5005 series machines such as the 5105 or 5205.

These machines are great for brush cutting, moving hay bales, and hay baling and other high hour applications that do not require special features or modifications to the tractor.

If you could expand a bit in detail as to what exactly you had in mind for you particular applications; I could give a more detailed reply.

In any case, the less bells and whistles, the less there is to go wrong and cause problems. I think you will find these machines to be very reliable and a great buy for the dollar as are the 90 series compact tractors by Deere the 790 and 990.

i just purchased a new L3400 hst, and in the owners manual it states that super udt as factory trans fill.it also says either udt or super udt is ok for refill.i think fluid is cheap compared to a transmission.i plan on using the super udt for service on the L3400.

I'll echo the others. The best place for a ball hitch is the factory drawbar. I mounted a 2" ball on my drawbar to do exactly the same thing you are. It works great. Since my factory drawbar is not removable, I still use a 2-point drawbar for lightweight towing of implements with a clevis-type hitch. The 2-point drawbar can also be used as an aid to help couple the ball hitch if your trailer is too heavy to lift. Run a chain over the drawbar, lift the tongue with the 3PH, and slowly lower it onto the ball. Voila!

Inside the housing, there are spring-loaded ball bearings that hold the shaft in place. But since you didn't describe any noise or other symptoms associated with this issue, I think it's premature to go there just yet. I recently bought a TC 30 with Loader, Mid mount mower (5 ft.)R4 tires with rear loaded, block heater, 4 wheel drive. and hydrostat. All New Holland , PAID $16000.00.
Also bought a 5 foot first choice tiller and planted a couple acres of food plots for deer.
Boy what a differense from a 641 ford.
You will regret getting one with out the fel loader.
Only takes minutes to attach or tke off loader or mower.

Are you sure the backhoe circuit has any more flow than the rest of the hydraulics? Backhoes do not need very much flow, the cylinders are very similar in size to a loader although there is only 1 on the hoe where there is typically 2 on the loader for each movement. If your hoe has that much flow, you should be able to hit a baseball out of the park swinging it back and forth. Most of the fork lift cylinders I have seen are larger than similar sized loader lift cylinders. 2 of my neighbors made forklifts for their tractors and used the tractor hydraulics from a full sized tractor and it is just as slow as when it was a forklift and worked great.

On the 50 hour service cost? I picked up my tracto the other week from a close dealership (to my place) They only charged me $135! For that price I figured hav at it. I still have the filters gave to me by the purchasing dealer so I will do thew next one myself. (LOL) Figure at the rate I am going I will be about 65yrs old by the next one and at that point and time I should have ALL kinds of time.
Anyway $135 for the service In northern Wis.

NEED help. A buddy has a model 15 international tiller FOR A CUB CADET (the off white one). He had me make him a part for it so it will fit his tractor (not a cub cadet). He now finds out that the cub cadets power take off spins the opposit way that his other tractors spins???????? The gearing in the tiller is set up for the direction that the cub spins. (Is this making any sense??) So when he runs the tiller with his other tractor the tiller rotates backwards????????<br>
PLEASE any help or insight to this matter also if you know of any solutions to it please inform me!<br>
This guy is an older (back woods hickish) helluva nice guy and saves everything he can. (you all know the type)<br>
I would like to help him and told him I would ask ya all! He does not partake in computer life so him coming here personelly is out of the question BUT if I can help him I am sure he will pass the word about Tractor point! Peters, thanks for the link. I will look into this. In the mean time, I am working on exchanging or returning the battery I currently have. If I can exchange this battery for a version that has the hold down lugs as shown in the link picture; it will be a perfect fit and match.

I did not realize you were referring to the Cummins either, sorry for the confusion. I knew the HD axles in those vehicles were Dana and have not heard of any problems with them.

I would like ya's opinion on what size of implement to get for my midget tractor. It has 14 horsepower, 11 hp at pto.<br>
What size of rotary cutter do ya recommend? i got (3) 40lb<br>
weights for it. Tractor is the size of a nice big Garden tractor. just need to use to shred grass. maybe move some stuff around or till. I know they make a 3ft cutter for it and would like to use a 42 inch. Whatever experience ya have with one of these midgets would be appreciated.

I looked at what their site had to offer and they pretty much cover it. The electric PTO clutch mounting, as long as the crank is the same diameter that the big hurtle. If the clutch uses just a torque arm the mounting is easy. If the clutch is mounted to the block then the mounting distances are more critical as the brake may not release or engage fully if the distances are off. The adapter to mate the drive shaft to the flywheel will probably be different, unless they include an custom adapter. A local machine shop can turn your adapter or make a new one for under $50. The mounting holes pattern will probably be different, but it may be a simple as drilling new holes or maybe fabricating a new mount. The exhaust will probably require a little creativity if you use all of your original jd parts. Fuel system should be no problem. Electrically the Honda probably has a built in regulator rectifier. Your Onan probably used a remote mounted unit. One replaces the other just a little rewiring may be needed. Ignition switch, some engines need 12v to the ignition to run and others have a built in magneto, so they have to be grounded to run. The electrical drawings for the tractor and the information supplied with the engine will help you figure that out. Go For It. Re-powered a good tractor chassis will go a lot of years for a minimal investment. I've taken Bolens QTs built in the 70s, stripped them down to just frame and castings and repowered them during the rebuild. Satisfaction.

If you browse the Kubota and JD forums here I think you'll find roughly comparable numbers of problems. All brands have their issues, and some manufacturers are more up-front and public with their problems than others. JD posts their recall notices on their web site, not sure what Kubota does. As with cars, first year models tend to have more teething problems.
