If you look at Deere website they call the midmount model number as 62 but it is only a 60". They also offer a 60" rearmower but do not show the 72" as being offered for this tractor.

MMM are easier to drive around objects and easier on your neck. So if you stick with this tractor model a 60" is maximum recommendation per Deere. I have a 27HP rated tractor with 72"MMM which is usually about the point where 72's are offered.

The R-4 tires are a "so so" compromise between turf and ag tires. The R-4's tire lugs will load up with mud fast and do not clear themselves out like the R-1 ag tires will. Even then, any tractor will sink and just dig in if it hits a bad patch of ground. I have seen full sized 180 hp 4WD dual rear tire ag tractors stuck up to their frames. It can happend fast and really be a mess to retreve them.

On the contrary. In my opinion, you may not be considering going large enough. To run a small round baler you can find some that require 30 to 35 pto hps but most typical round baler's requires a minimum of 45 and usually more pto hp. A square baler requires similar but slightly less pto hp. I realize that folks with horses prefer square bales but after you have had to handle and stack a few thousand of them by hand; you will MUCH prefer the round bale and spear to handle them.

If you are going to run a 7' rotary cutter; I would STONGLY suggest going with as heavy duty a unit as your budget can swing. For instance; a Deere 709 rotary cutter weighs in at 1381 lbs. and requires a minimum of 45 pto hp. This rotary cutter come in category 2 and 3N for the 3 pt. hitch hook up.

You stated that you were planning on quite a bit of FEL work. Get as heavy duty a FEL as will fit on your tractor. You may want to consider a grapple bucket for the logs.

You could get by and make do with the top end Deere 4000 Twenty Series or the Kubota Grand L series machines if hydrostatic drive is a must for you. If hydrostatic drive is not a prime consideration then I suggest that you look carefully at the "Ag Tractors".

By "Ag Tractors" I mean the Kubota M series and the Deere 5003 series and up. Do you want a cab? I would think so if you are blowing snow with it. I would again STRONGLY recommend 4WD if you have a FEL installed as rear wheel drive only will tend to slip with a full bucket (this would eliminate the 5003 series line). If a cab is in the cards; the Deere 5000 Twentfive series and perhaps the 6003 series are the models you need to be looking at. With all of the goodies like a cab, 4WD, FEL, 24F/24R PowrReverser with 540/540E PTO on the 5000 Twentyfive series; expect to be in the $50,000 range give or take for a Deere 5425 and perhaps about 10 to 15% less for a Deere 6403. The 6003 series is a mid range basic machine that pretty much is along the lines of the old but very well know and reliable 4020 and follow on series machines. For example, Deere has a special offer for a base 6403 for $26990. Expect to add around $12,000 to $14,000 for a cab and 4WD. It has been awhile since I have priced an Ag FEL but expect to be looking at $5,000 and up. I am sure some of the other member who have recently purchased one can comment on this.

Another reason for "going large" or "suprer sizing" is picking up and handlig round bales. I don't even consider moving even a small round bale with my 4410. Just too much weight. A full size round bale would probably be too much weight for a 4720 and if not near its limitations. You DO NOT want to be taxing your equipment to its limits on a regular basis. Best to buy what will reasonably accomodate your intened applications and leave capacity to expand or branch out later.

Again, could you make do with a say a Deere 4720 or a Kubota 5030? Sure but you would be faced with limits to your applications.

Another brand and model consider for these applications is the Kioti DK65S. This is a 65 hp, 4WD, cab w/heat & A/C tractor that can be purchased with a FEL and rotary cutter for about $37,000 with recent price increases. The Kioti DK65S is equipped with a Perkins 1103C-33T which is a turbo-charged after cooled diesel. Perkins is WELL known for their reliability and durability. I believe that Woods makes the FEL's for Kioti.

Sorry about the long post but just wanted to throw out some ideas and options to consider.

Beagle's attention to detail makes me aware of my lack of it. My ag tires were loaded, and I did get the foldable rops. My understanding is that the foldable rops (very handy) includes the mid PTO.

All of the tasks you described can be done with an L-series machine. However, if you want a rotary cutter over 7' wide, I'd go straight to the M-series. The larger L's such as the L4630 or L5030 have enough PTO HP to get the job done, but you might like the extra size and mass of an M4900 or an M5700. If you need extra manuverability or just like the smaller chassis, go with a large L. If you're more comfortable with a bigger heavier tractor go with a small M. If you like the M-series but want to limit cost go with the MX5000. It's a budget model comparable in size to the L5030. As far as color goes I'm partial to Orange, but most people here will tell you to shop for the best dealer as much as the right machine.

IF it snapped off, maybe but a bend, that would be hard to get warranteed. As a dealer I might offer to try and straighten it at no charge to you but I'd also tell you it could never be perfectly straight again and the bend would be a weak point for it to happen again. I might also offer you a discount if you are a regular customer.

I just bought a TC35 with a FEL,along with a lot of other things. The price for the trctor and loader in Woodland, CA was $19,000.00. I wanted a backhoe as well so I chose to go with the 35. When I compared specs with the ones I was comparing, the NH had them beat. I don't get mine untill next week because they had to order in the hoe I wanted as well as a couple of other goodies. I wasn't interested in the Super Steer, but there is some interesting posts on this site about it. I agree with the others, you can't go wrong with the loader.

Ann most of this info is from studies done "last updated 05/25/99." While I am not disagreeing with anyone here what is not being considered in the posted opinions is many manufactures have either been sold or accquired by another and we simply can't say for certain if original specs have changed or not!!

The last info I was able to find mirrors the one "ed above and this is the updated version a-la 1999!!

For those who have a 2210 or 2305 with a loader, how much dirt work can your tractor handle for final grading and landscaping? It seems like the mounting points are too fragile to handle any serious dirt removal. How fast can you mow in a straight line on dry grass?

joel, what attachments do you have besides the mower? I bought the diesel thinking the resale value for the tractor would be higher. Where abouts do you live? I live on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Have you had any issues with you ventrac? I started my unit last spring and pulled it of of my garage to warm it up for a while and after I shut it off I couldn't start it again. It was like it died. Turns out that all it was was a ground under the seat needed to be tightened. The boys at Ventrac worked me through a list of areas to check and say saved me a few hundred dollas easly if I had to have my dealer drive out to service the unit. Any recommendations where to get pricing besides my dealer for the snow blower and cab if I decide to keep my tractor?

Thanks for the quick reply ill check over the list but im thinking of trying to get out of this deal and take the loss of 2 months payments i dont think i want to let this dealer rake me over the coals anymore. maybe i should have gone with a kabota lol well ill see what i can do thanks for your help ill let you know how i make out i was hopeing it was just a simple sensor malfunction or simple electrical problem since this is computer controlled i figured the diag should have been simple and painless at the dealer but guess not

I've used a rear blade and loader to clear snow in the mountains of the Monadnock region in New Hampshire for the last 14 years. It works well with a big heavy machine and a blade that is wider than the rear wheels. If your 3pt has draft (float) control no sweat. As many have said KNOW THE LAY OF THE LAND BEFORE YOU PLOW! If you take it slowly and learn what obstacles are in you path it's a very effective method of snow removal.

One more thought on this - I am wondering if I can get the el cheapo TSC PHD and then shorten the augers by cutting the tops off with an Oxy tourch. Then drill/cut new sheere pin holes. Hmmmmm. I will be gong to look at this. I really like the cheap price for what I am doing.....Scott

smag - that's a different experience from what I had. I wasn't allowed to walk or go anywhere unescorted. Course, I didn't try either. But I was always escorted wherever I went. But then I wasn't in Beijing but a more industrialized city that doesn't have a large western tourist business.

It is a sleeping giant and the population is getting a taste of western consumerism. It will be interesting to watch of the next couple of decades.
