Check the fluid capcity of your tractor. A fully extended 4"x24" cylinder requires about 300 cu in of fluid, and only about 1/4 of that is replaced from the rod side of the cylinder, for a net of about 3/4 of a gallon to run the splitter. May not be a problem, but it's worth checking into before you buy a splitter. I run a 3-1/2"x18" splitter cylinder off my 7810 to reduce the fluid requirement. It only needs less than 1/2 gallon net fluid to run. I haven't run into anything yet it won't split.

Some additional thoughts....what is the average wage in Connecticut Vs North Carolina? What is a skilled technican worth? What level of taxes do they pay? At the end of the day, are a businessman's cost of doing business the same?
What does it cost to buy gas in CT vs Mass, NY or elsewhere in the NE? Was the dealer in the same ballpark as NH, NY or MA?

Apparently, in this case, the math and the experience seem to match. You don't see that all the time.

The weight of the material is important when determining how much the loader will handle. Weights can vary wildly depending on moisture content, grain size, etc. Relatively dry sand weights in a about 100lbs/cu ft, or 2700 llbs /yard. With the loader lift capactiy, you are right at 1/3 yard, or 9 cubic feet.

I hate to say it but I'm not going but my brother is. I'm in the final stages of a shop addition and trying to keep all the crews going in the right direction is a tough job, at least for me. I will be finding out more as soon as it's over as there has only been a little bit of talk on specifics.

Hyd stands seems like overkill. Jackstands are ok, but a better system, (if you use trailer every day) would be stands attached to trailer. I can send you pix. The best system uses ramps, with legs, attached to trailer with spring to counter the weight.Easy to flip up. Nothing to get lost.In my opinion, the most important things are: having enought brakes(both axels & properly adjusted) & visible turn signals/brake lites, when loaded.

B-arrow, I understand the quiet part. The house seems so empty when we get home from a trip where the dogs were kenneled. Just doesn't seem right until they get home too.

My parents buried one golden retriever under the deck. She loved to lay there and look at the squirrels, birds, chase airplanes, etc. It's a constant reminder of a great companion.

I can tell you from personal experience that the buckets are not interchangeable between the Prairie Dog and Woods backhoes. I ordered the 8" bucket for my BH7500 from a Prairie Dog dealer and received it only to find out that the Woods pins were slightly larger in diameter than the mounting holes in the Prairie Dog bucket. The other issue I had with the bucket is that it was not square when welded together. I noticed this just eyeballing it, and confirmed with measurements. When I say off, the bucket mount was 7 degress off parallel to the bucket itself, and bucket was a parallelogram, not a rectangle. Needless to say I was very disappointed, returned the bucket and purchased the right bucket from Woods. Luckily the only thing I lost was the cost of shipping the bucket back.

On my JD 5510 (75-80 pto hp) running a heavy Woods Batwing 15' mower,I use 1.7 to 1.9 gal/hour.This is better than my JD 2640,(maybe 55hp at Denver altitude, no turbo) same use, at 2.2 gal/hr. My Ford 1920 W/ Woods MD 6' mower, uses 1.6 gal/hr. The Neb. test for the 5510 MFWD reported over 4.3 gal/hr. Not very real world. The newer JD tractors W/ turbo gives me a lot more bang for the buck.

There is a lot of used front mount equipment out there by some good manufacturers other than JD. Items like Toro, Grasshopper, etc. You may want to seriously consider them.

I'm glad you are keeping the big unit. They are too handy to have around the place. I considered the X585 back when I was looking for more mower. But then for the money, I couldn't beat going up to the 4310.

I'm not trying to bash JD's equipment, it's great stuff. But the X-series tractors are not inexpensive. But if money is no object...

One thing I forgot to mention that I like to do is to add a quick connect for a battery tender/maintenance unit. It can be a period of time between last summer/fall use and actual snow. So the battery can run down a bit. A battery tender with quick connects can make a big difference especially when starting on those oh so cold winter mornings.

I HAVE NOT YET CURED MY CHATTER NOISE IN MY HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. I THINK OLD RENTAL MAY BE RIGHT WITH THE BYPASS VALVE CHATTERING? THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME TO TRY A NEW FILTER, BUT THAT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. HOW IS THE BYPASS VALVE SERVICED?? FLUID IS NOT MILKY, SO I DO NOT SUSPECT PUMP CAVITATION!

Unless your tractor is a MFWD, there is no reason to replace the front tires. Also the R4 type tire is an industrial lug tire and won't have that much more traction. Your best bet would be R1 tractor tires. Try Premier Tire Terminal 1-800 525-3031 or 303 297-9555.

A real"Bush Hog" medium or heavy duty are good commercial mowers. I have used one in my weed mowing business. I now use a WOODS Batwing. Both brands are expensive but won't break down with daily use on rough sites. The light duty models are only good for homeowner use, in my opinion. Even the light duty units can cost $2000 ( 5 ft) when set up with front & rear chain kits & a slip clutch. The chains are required anytime you mow near (200 ft) people, houses, cars, roads etc. The mowers that cost under $1000 new will mow ok untill the first time you hit a tree stump, big rock.

Hi: Bought it from M&M Tractor, 703 West Huntington, Montpelier, IN 47359. Ask for Jeremy. The 8240 is the newest version of the 8020. The literature that came with the tractor has Euroleopard and Foton all over it. They're all the same tractor. I paid $26,000 delivered to New Hampshire. Tractor came with a 310 Koykler loader. I can honestly say I'm very impressed with the fit & finish. I spent an hour crawling all ove the machine looking for poor workmanship, loose fasteners, poor assembly, and construction. I found virtually none. The console is well layed out and functional. The fuse box uses standard automotive (blade) color coded fuses, and everything was neatly organized and wire tied. The tractor started right up and drove beautifully. Bear in mind I'm comparing it to a Belarus 572 made in 1992. So far I'm very pleased. I have 8 JPG's of the two tractors side by side. If you send an email to my address (see profile) I'll email them to you for a look see. Any comparable MF, Case, Mahindra was at least 15K more.

My neighbor is the validation engineer for the L-5 and V-8 engines for GM. When I bought a new 2004 Silverado, I noticed a clunk in the drive line. I strapped him in to find out what the hell was going on. He claims the drive-line clunk is a "calibration" issue with the V-8 driveline. GM doesn't have a re-cal for it. The calibration is the computer setting for fuel/air/trans interaction, and once established for a EPA certification, it isn't supposed to be tampered with.

Thats his story, and he seems to be sticking to it. I give him a hard time over that clunk every time I see him.
