A properly set up 5th wheel/gooseneck hitch has the towing point just ahead of the rear axle.

I have always thought that it was this positioning that created the added stability.

My condolences, both on the loss of your Westie, and on your getting a Jack, your life will never be the same again.

All kidding aside, I know how tough the loss of a beloved pet is. Those damned little buggers really get to your heart don't they?

If you don't already know a JRT, or PRT (mine are actually Parson Russells BTW) is actually the only pure-mutt there is, and as anyone who has ever had a cross-breed probably knows, they're as smart as a whip!

Teach that little cutey early, and teach it well, they will learn anything and everything you care to teach them.

Do it and yourself a favour though, don't feed it strictly commercial food. To a JRT or PRT, commercial food is like feeding a kid at Mickey D's 3 meals a day, that pup will run around like a wild banshee, high as a kite.

Yesterday my wife and I were talking to a neighbor who was passing by with her black lab. At the same moment the neighbor across the street unexpectedly came out from behind a tree with her large pure bred (some large copper colored poodle -as big as the lab). Next thing I hear "SMACK"! The 60ish lightweight woman is face down on the blacktop and the dogs are having a little "one-ups-man(dog)-ship". Not a battle - just some good natured fun with each other.<br>

Thank heavens the lady got up and recovered - I had thought we were going to have to call an ambulance. It never ceases to amaze me how many people want large dogs but can't handle them.

I hate to disagree, but my experience would lead me to suspect that we are seeing his best side.

All mower deck spindles are not created the same and different ones don't require much grease at all or you will blow out the seals. Some normally more a commercial grade will have special vents to allow the extra grease to come out without blowing the seals. Some units require about 50 pumps to fill the chamber before you will get proper lubrication of the top bearing. What happens if under greased you could have problems with it going dry as the heat warms the grease it drops to cover the bottom bearing and will not give the upper bearing any lubrication. They are all different and there is no one size fits all here!

I've done a lot of welding on various projects. I kind of like the Stick welding after I quit sticking the rods.
Haven't used the Mig only to play with it.
Found my left hand thread bolts Northern Hydraulics.
They call them "reverse threads" Heck whatever floats their boat, as long as they got it for me, I don't care what they call them!

Dieseltrctr, be really careful with that gooseneck dump, or any dump that doesn't have a pintle hitch / lunette ring style coupler for that matter.

I have seen some really nice trucks really mashed up from coming unhitched while dumping.

The positive lock of the pintle hitch is the only style of hitch that is designed to take an upwards load securely, the rest, ball or pin, are really only designed to take enough upwards load to stay hitched during something like a big pothole. They only 'lock' by pinching in on a very small area on the mating device, ball or pin.

With a surprisingly little bit of wear, or a misadjusted coupler, they will disconnect in a heartbeat.

To prevent this from happening you should place some blocking, timbers, jack-stands, anything, under the rear of the trailer frame, NOT the dump body. This will support the rear and not allow the weight transfer to occur and thus eliminate the possibility of a problem.

Any one else having problems getting support and help from Mazama products who sell the Taskmaster and Bulldog tractors? I could not get parts support and received damaged tractors when shipped. Every time I was promissed something, the pronmise was broken. Anyone else?

All the repair shop will likely do, is flush the hydraulic system with isopropyl alcohol. You can do that yourself

Earthway makes a very nice 12v receiver mount unit...either in powder coated or stainless. I know that Sears sells them...at least they did a year ago on their online catalog. I did see that Northern Tool and Equipment have similar units also. At Northerntool.com you can check it out. Remember that dust from fertilizer/salt will make the back of your CUT rust pretty quick if you don't wash if off in a timely manner. Good luck finding what you want.

I didn't have 50 hours to sunday-drive my tractor, so I'm sure I pushed it a bit more than I should have. Based on the recommendations in the manual, I kept the engine at probably mid-throttle for most operations. I occasionally had to go full throttle for heavier work and lowered the RPMs afterward. I'm a tractor newbie, too, so I just used as much common sense as I could muster. In my opinion (which isn't worth much, really), the most important thing you can do to ensure a long lived motor is to stay on top of the maintenance schedule. The initial 50-hour oil change is going to be critical because of the metal fragments that are floating around in the oil & filter. I will stop what I'm doing and change the oil at 50.0 hours.<br>

You only need a vent if water won't drain or it bubblers and clugges,,they got in line vents,,you put them under house,,it lets air in,,keeps stink out,,helps draiun lines drain,,the same as the little hole on a gas jug,,lets you pour out gas,,,,,you might be able to deal all out of roof vents out... thing
