You should also consider the type of tires to be used too---true "trailer service" (radial or bias) versus passenger car tires. The thinner walled car tires tend to lend a "swishy" feel to the trailer at highway speeds loaded. I have tall radial 16" on my equipment trailer and it rides great with 12,000 on it. But don't put trailer tires on a vehicle--the ride will be bad (thicker side walls) and I'm told by a tire engineer, not safe especially when steering. And most tires are designed specifically for a particular model of car/truck for handling, ride quality, and suspension performance/wear.

And don't get me started on trailer axle and supsension types... :)

I'm with Murf. Surprisingly in my part of the country (metro Detroit area) we have the black streaks and people don't realize that there are special strips made of zinc made for roofing. They slip under the shingles at the roof ridge. They're made to slowly dissolve away as rain watyer washes over them. I saw them on TV's "This Old House" many years ago on a home they were doing in New England. Zinc is used in medications too---like cough drops---to prevent bacterial infections. (Most) microbes cannot live in the presence of zinc.

I don't know how much of that is labor, but I would guess it is at least a couple of hours at shop rate, given that the hydraulics are already in place.

Believe your 2230 will handle a 48 brush cutter just fine. I have a 5 ft 3 pt bush hog that I use on my L-35 (26 PTO hp) and a 6 ft pull type on a MF farm tractor. They both eat high weeds, brush, and even small sapplings with ease. Although one has a shear pin and the other a slip clutch, I perfer the slip clutch. However, make sure the clutch is set up and you look after it annually--tore up a PTO several years ago because of hitting a stump with a frozen clutch. Take it easy--your tractor will tell you when it's needs to gear down. Watch out for those stumps!

Brokenarrow: Try adjusting the top link so that the attack angle of the rake's tines allows the material to ride up the tines and roll off---sort of how a dozer blade or snow plow works (or even a breaking ocean wave). Most likley, rather than the rake's structure sitting parallel to the gound, the front of the rake will need to be raised slightly to accomplish this. Of course, depending on the angle of the rake, this will cause the farthest point of the rake to dig in so you will have to adjust one lower link.

Also--if if have the right guy--you work for NH right? Well after 6 long months. I finally took delivery on my LS 185.b last week. And love it (hydraulic quick attach, enclosed cab with heat, steel over-the-tire tracks).

At least one thing about the drought, not using up my diesel for cutting grass :s I filled the tank in the spring and it is still full. I only use it now for the manure pile. Last year I spent a good amount of time and money putting in a riding arena, and this year spent very little time using it because it is too Darn HOT. This summer really sucks. I just hope we have a cool enough fall and not a cold fall. I need to replace my roof before winter hits.

I found a 1992 4x4 Kubota B6200DT with 640 hours, a loader and 60" belly mower at a dealer. They are asking $7800, came down to 7250 + tax. I offered 7200 out the door, they wont take less than 7500 out the door. Tractor is in good condition.<br>
Is it worth 7500?<br>
I've been looking all summer and haven't found anything for much less.<br>

I purchased a used 1998 cub cadet 7260 3 cylinder deisel tractor recently. I was having overheating problems. Come to find out it has a cracked head. Does anyone know where I may be able to find used parts? I need a new head. The new parts are fairly pricy.

You might want to consider having the farmer cut and bale it for you. Would save you some money down the road. Also if you let the horses graze in that field, make sure the manure is either picked out regulary, or spread out well to prevent the accumulation of more weeds and the killing of good grasses and alfalfa. I have a small strip that is a hay field, and I usually get one or two round bales out of it every cutting, but looks like this year there will only be one, the drought has hit us hard here.

Dieselpusher, you may be right on the number, I didn't think it was that many, but don't know for sure. There is an '83 at the museum in Bowling Green. I assume '83 was the first year of production at BG.

Have you seen the new Cadillac being produced at BG? It's a two door coupe built on the corvette chassis. I saw one at the GM dealer a couple of months ago. It's a nice car. Dave

I have a 94/95 model 7275 which is 27 hp vs: 30. Believe it pretty much is the same tractor. It has been very good for me. I've been thinking about trading up and can't find anything that I like as well for size, weight and power. I only have 615 hours on mine and use it primarily for driveway repair, fall plowing and pushing snow in winter. I have loader, 72" MMM and rear blade.

I know about the Toyota V6 sludge problems. Supposedly Toyota redesigned them to solve the problem. I'm not taking any chances, after break-in it's getting nothing but synthetic oil.

Dennis, it does have the mast antenna. Others on Edmunds have complained about poor reception as well. When we had it in to get the spoiler installed they gave me a tacoma loaner which had much better reception than the HL. The dealer says it's normal (of course) but I put in a complaint with Toyota and have an appointment on the 23rd to meet with the dealer rep. I'm not expecting much out of it though. She supposedly will drive a highlander for the next two weeks and see if the reception is poor.

If using the loader, you may want to keep the RPM's up around 2600. The loader is run off the hydraulics which is run from a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump gives max pressure at a certain RPM and is run off the tractor's engine. So by running the engine at a lower RPM (say to get max torque out of the engine) your hydraulic pump is not running at it's optimal speed. As a result, your loader may not work as well as it should/could.

Same applies to the hydrostat. If you are dinking around, you can run at lower RPM. But if you are doing any work, say with loader or an implement, you should run the RPMs up higher to keep the hydraulic pumps running at optimal speed. If you don't, you are pushing your pumps harder than they should be because you are asking them to do hard work but are not giving them the input (engine speed) they need to meet the requirement. It could shorten their life.

My wife will jump on my JD4310 anytime. One time I come home and she is using the backhoe to help a neighbor's wife plant a bush. Only problem was that she had the front bucket down on their new blacktop driveway for stability. I ran over - told her to stop - and spent some time hammering a small gouge out of their driveway. The husband came out later to inspect - the repair I did was close to perfect but I think he may have noticed a pebble or two out of position :)
