I agree with you. I have repair and parts manuals. I repair everything myself because I like doing it and I am sure it is done right. When I go to a dealer for parts, I usually have the old part and the part number from the manual. The dealer gets the part, but the wait drives me crazy and since I work during their week hours I can only get to the dealer on Saturday the wait makes it worst.

No hell to give here, but at a low level the fluid molecules get torn apart by shear pressures which reduces their ability to lubricate. Additionally, accumulated moisture will create sludge and the additives wear out.

Well they lived thru the foam spray that made it look like a shaving creme mess on top of the ground on top of thier hole. I gave them one more good shot tonight of the remaining cans. If they live thru this I will pour a gallon of diesel down the hole! I am done messing around!

We used to sneak out at night to go riding the country roads on our bikes. Not just once a summer but 3-4 times a week. From 12 till 3-4am. Dad always knew we were out. Ma had no clue for many years. I had one rule from Dad (the lawman) Dont get caught and embarress me, you would regret it)!!!. NEVER!!! Done anything wrong except drink too many Ten High and cokes!
Yes those were the days!Just about every thing you all mentioned was performed by myself and many other accrossed the country. It is amazing youall bring up sooo many things I did also! Must of just been a naturally occuring thing amungst boys!
Now for the damper on this shangrila.
Its easy to blame playstation and all the other easy targets for whats wrong with this country. Here is my take as a father of three living just outside a city of 90+K. Yes I am considered living in the country, although my land and other house is really in the sticks most of the same holds true there but to a lesser extent. We now live in a place where it is a crap shoot on what the kids could do or have done to them if they were to leave at 7am and come home at dark. Our kids friends parents BOTH work or in most cases anyway. MOM is not home to make sure the kids are here or there, at the other nieghbors or maybe in the school yard playing pick up baseball. Rapes, muggings, killings, drive by shootings. Drugs (even though they were prevalent in the 60's, NOT so much with 10-14 year olds) are everywhere, even in the most remote sticky places. Families need (or almost need to) have two incomes, that means less time to influence the path they will walk down. Jobs are cutting back on vacation offered to many in the lower income jobs. Over time is heavy. All this plays into reasons we need to monitor what the kids will do and will not do. The fear of your kid being abducted is real and is scary. Sexual predators being released back into society (LIKE THEY ARE CURED!!!! DAH!) PREGNANCY!!!! WOW, I have two daughters also!!! I am affraid to death of them meeting a rat ass boy (just like I was)!!! The biggest problem in my hood, is that other parents have NO clue what their kids are doing and for that matter dont care. Those are the ones you need to watch and keep your kids away from because like it was mentioned before parents are defending their kids actions and believing everything they say!!!
Remember when the guy down the street would call your dad and tell him that he heard his kid swearing on the street? WOW!!!! To this day I remember my dad. He walked calmly into the baseball field (in back of the school) With out saying a thing he walked up to me and reached back and nailed me accrossed the back of the head with a slap. What was that for!!! I yelled! He told me, "I could hear you swear all the way back at our house!" I got to tell you this! The embarresment infront of my friends and the astonishment of how he knew? That was enough to make me respect the public places I was in at future dates! I can not ever remember swearing or talking like an idiot again infront of or loud enough for any other adult to hear me. Now a day my dad would of lost his badge, had to go to counseling, and maybe pay a fine or do some time!
Yes I miss the old days also! I am affraid they will never return though in this politically correct and this corrupt society we are now entering.

I believe what you said about allergies and NOT being out side enough. My wife is alergic to the world and she was sheltered from the sun when young because of some old wives tale's and because she is fair skinned. I never had allergies and was out ALL the time. Since I became domesticated and spend more time in that out I think I have a slight case of some forms f allergies now!

I am not sure if you are confusing what my own statements are, but I did not state anything that a dealer told me. I buy online for both the convenience(100drive roundtrip) and because they have EVERYTHING. I do not buy bizarre parts, just mainly filters,fluids, and other service parts, and this dealer is not the first I have encountered that doesnt have them on hand. If they have to order them, I am much further ahead to order them off the internet. My tractors are a B2400 MFWD hydrostatic and a L3430 MFWD hyrostatic, hardly rare models.<br>

Murf: Looks like I'll have room for about a 1500 footer, without taking down any trees. Is that enough room for ya?

Yeah, kinda thinking' the same on the tractor. Maybe add something in the 30-50 hp class for brush hogging and hopefully a heavier loader. (Some rock piles to move) Maybe I'll get to know the rental place for a while first.

I didn't put it all the way down because of the clog issue and yes it has been clogged already, by muscrats, they even got the 12 inch half clogged. Easily flushed out since it was only 3 feet down. would have been much harder to adjust the angle of a 6 foot stand pipe, and boyancy may have been too much.

I used that part number (got it from this same thread, earlier on) and the it was a set of shims. The set consists of maybe 5 shims, each progressively thinner than the last, but none very thick. I used all of them.

One more thing...
Reducing intake and exhaust restriction makes an engine flow air more efficiently. So, it needs more fuel if you take advantage of the increased air flow. You pay for the improved performance potential up front, and then pay every day that you use that potential.

I don't have any grain or food sources stored either. I just live in the high desert like Mark and these things live everywhere around here. They are opportunists and will come in out of the rain. (when it occurs) The point is that they will live inside as well as outside.

The car that has been infested is an offroad race car. It is not exactly air tight. It is being stored inside a barn that is not air tight either, so the rats get in there. I am building an new "tight" shop, but it won't be done for a couple of months. I don't want to clean it out because of the Bubonic Plague and Hantavirus potential that the fleas and feces in the nest will carry. This weekend, I am going to put an insect bomb in the car and that might make the place undesirable for the rats also.

If you read the thread about the undesirable neighbors, you might understand that I moved away from a pretty nice place with a nice shop because I had a neighbor that was a loud abusive jerk that was connected into the political structure and I was constantly being charged with this or that violation of zoning or covenants. It was a total pain. I am just trying to get a new shop built and get my life back to normal after a move a year ago. Finding a contractor to build the shop was another adventure.

Murf, my first design had no switch, but the rats would not go in to take the bait. They could either sense the 7000 volt potential or they got a slight jolt before being fully inside and decided to dine elsewhere. So, the switch was to make sure that they were in the middle of the kill zone. They would not even go in there before I grounded the power supply. At first I just wired it up floating and they would not go near it, but would eat the bait out of the passive tubes that I had placed around. Currently I have the trap sitting on a large metal plate that grounds the fence transformer and the rat walks up on the plate and into the copper lined PVC pipe to get to the bait. By the time he tugs (or pushes as of last night's design update) on the bait, the rat cannot get out without taking a lethal shot.

What I am trying to do is to reduce the "inside" population without having dead poisoned rats in places I cannot see. After I stop getting hits on my trap, I will switch over to poison baits for general control.

I was talking about this with a buddy and he is building up a copy of my trap, but he is going after squirels. He is using a neon light transformer and I suspect that he will literally fry the squirel in place. I did not want the liability of a lethal device, so I opted for an electric fence transformer that I know is powerful enough.

I switched careers when I was 35 (from agr. policy work on Capitol Hill into teaching), so I probably won't get to retire early. But I decided a while back that without kids and without sleep, I can do some of those things now. The tractor makes a lot more of those projects tangible!

Doc, I think you misunderstood my comment. I'm not trying to argue here, please understand, I believe this forum is about teaching and learning, NOT argueing.

The point was not that you were doing something wrong, per se.

I was merely questioning efficacy of doing it at all.

If the blades need to be resharpened after cutting just 2 acres, then maybe the 20 minutes you spend doing it is for naught.

Unless you hit an object more substantial than grass, blades that are dull after only 2 acres are either made of butter, or not ground right, they should hold thier edge and cut as well after 20 acres as 2 acres.

In fact your comment "I do not get a finish type cut if
I dont touch them up." seems to argue your own position. If at the beginning of cut #4 the blades need to be 'touched up', then that tells me they weren't cutting acceptably at the end of cut # 3 either..... follow me?

I agree with what you found. There seemed to be a slight amount of play when I removed what was left of the rim. It looked like two of the nuts got loose and allowed some play.

The vibration and excess torque on the front finished it off. I replaced it with a factory rim. I ddi not check to see if Tractor Supply or some one else could have carried a "stock" wheel.

We are building a small pond (20 x40) for water plants. We plan on moving rock (rather larger) to line border. As soon as that project is complete, theloader comes off.
