Funchy, yes $1500 is a lot of money for a camera. I just want to point out that cameras of this type can be set up to scan (or pan) your entire property line so that only one camera is necessary. They have a number of features so that you can do almost anything with one camera.

I certainly don't have great advice on how to handle neighbors as you know from my previous posts. I argued with my wife about coming back to a residential neighborhood. Rural neighborhoods have been great for me. I have seen one person arrested for selling cocaine, more divorces than I can count, and other assorted whackos in this "upscale" neighborhood. The couple who got divorced across the street hired private investigators to watch each other! I also have deed restrictions but there is no active enforcement agency for any of them. On top of this I am paying $9K in real estate taxes and the school taxes are going up again!

No I havent. I am not sure where the filter is. I didnt get an owners manual with the tractor. (I am also looking for a manual) The fluid is Kubota hydralic fluid.

I have a BX-23 and 4' Rankin box scraper. I need to shave down compacted fill dirt approximately 6" in preparation for a patio (4" concrete + 2" 5/8 crushed).<br>

I only have 10 hours on the BX23 and haven't taken off the backhoe yet to experiment with the box scraper to see what it can do. I've played with the FEL to do some scraping (just for fun), but am not sure if this is recommended (the tractor seems overstressed if I dig in too deep too quickly).<br>

Anyway, here are my questions:<br>

1) will the box scraper scrape below the current level of the dirt or will the PTO only allow it to go as low as the current surface?<br>
<br>
2) Is it OK to use the FEL to shave the compacted soil down, or am I doing harm to the tractor? The manual shows how to remove turf with the FEL, so I assume this an acceptable task for the given equipment.<br>

On Edmunds dot com they compute a total cost to own which includes purchase price, gas mileage, maintenance costs, depreciation and insurance. Most of the SUVs I've been looking at come in around 48-55 cents/mile. The LR Range Rover is $1.15/mile over five years. Holy Cow!

You could set up a new bank account just for this purpose. Giving that number out wouldn't risk much. I have a free account I use just for PayPal transactions, since PayPal can't be trusted. When money arrives in that account I transfer directly to my checking or savings accounts.

I use a recovery harness with 2 j hooks on it at the front,j hooks upside down around the front axel,other end on the winch cable. At the rear,I have anchor shackles thru the "eyes" on the rear axel that I loop transport j hooks thru. The free end of these go to chain slots on the rear corners of the trailer. I pull everything up tight with the winch [8k warn], then put a 2" 5stich strap around the front axel to a d ring that is bolted to a crossmember [thru the trailer deck]and ratchet it up tight. This is a precaution against the winch clutch failing.Put the cut in the lowest gear and set the brakes.I regularly haul mine 300 mi. each way to my nothern mi property once or twice a month this way.

Couple of years ago -- Dec. 2003 -- I had my new NewHolland gell while plowing my drive (which is near 400') here in the N. of Omaha area. (it was about -10) I went and got 5 gal of kerosene and that sure helped it !! I spent a year in Greenland .. at 60-70 below zero, they never shut them off except inside a heated hanger .. and the Diesel vehicles there had pure kero with a "splash" of gasoline. BUT you gotta consider the "lubricity" problem then.

I've gotta agree with the "dust". I have a fairly small Bearcat (an 8N or my NH-TC33 runs it easy) .. it's rated/sized for 5", but anything wrist size or more is firewood here. I used to complain that it made SAWDUST rather than CHIPS ... well, it was that we just made brush piles of the "small stuff" and didn't get to chipping till LOTS later. I've had more time lately and find that using it on fresh/green brush is easier, quietier, less dusty, and DOES make actual chips !! Gotta be easier on the machine too! JD

Art, Thanks. As to WHERE ... I think I used to "tap" (actually pound) on the sides of the case, but it won't "free it up" at all any more. I keep thinking I'll get time to tear into it, but never seem to find the time -- OR the space to tie up. I also keep thinking sometime I'll drain it, put in some cheap detergent oil for a while, then drain it again and put in the proper gear oil. Maybe that'll help. "Betsy" probably has more sentimental value than $$ value. My wife says Betsy is the "Tractor Emeritus" since we got the NewHolland. (I spent a lot of my youth on 8N's mowing & raking hay .. and cleaning feed lots) I hate to spend to have some dealer or shop rebuild the hydraulic on a 50 year old tractor. Now, if there's somebody out there who knows and loves old Fords -- within 2 or 300 miles of the Omaha area -- and would like a little project this winter .... :-) I'd be tickled to talk to them. I got the tc35da stuck this w/e , and tried[for the first time in 252 hrs of use] to move the senstrac to "lock". nothing happened and after checking the linkage, the cable is not hooked to anything,nor will it reach the lever. Ther was a loose spring hanging off the lever,so I hooked it to the cable clevis.This puts tension on the cable when the lever is moved, but nothing happens down on the driveshaft end, Am i missing something here ,or what ?

I keep seeing posts about removing weights to mow the grass. Every mower I have owned would work better with weights on it. My NH GT75 had calcium in the tires not my favorite but it worked, wished I had even more weight. My JD f525 has factory weights on the wheels. Look at steiners. At least half of the ones I have seen have the rear weight bar with weights just for mowing. Their necessity is more from poor engineering. My JD4300 has calcium fill and I finish mow with it all the time. I think it does less damage with filled tires since I use 2WD as often as possible and spin the tires a lot less (as in none) with all that weight. I leave the loader on to mow to put rocks sticks etc in so it does need the weight.

Mine does this sometimes and I guess I just thought it was gravity dumping quicker than than the hydraulic fluid could keep up with filling the dump cylinder. When the vaccuum was filled, the fluid would then continue to push in the dump direction. It always happens to me after the weight has left the bucket, hence my thoughts on it.

The TC24s are a great value but they are about $2k more expensive and require a more expensive loader, making the combo about $3k higher. All in all, as I said, a good value but stretching the budget after adding all the implements.

Just make sure you get a post hole digger specifically designed for SUB COMPACT TRACTORS. A regular length auger is too long for a BX.

Again, thank everyone for the insight. I went to the JD parts break down web site. I could see the casing /shaft/ o-ring of the assembly. This afternoon I removed the left wheel and kept spraying pen-oil while tapping the rocker linkage-arm back & forth. BINGO! it now works as it should. Upon reassembly, I realized the JD dealer never put the rims/wheels at wide stance. I have the 48 backhoe and within the owners manual it states to put the wheels in the wide position. This explains why it was "so-tight" placing the backhoe hold pins in position. The tire lug "gaps" needed to be just right to achieve the extra distance where pins inserted. By reversing the rear rims I have gained about 1" extention at each wheel. I believe I will space the front wheels. Mudder
