It's difficult to visualize the exact beam you're talking about by your description. Maybe you could take a few pix and post them? Other than that I would decide whether you could replace the rotted beam with the same orientation and attachment it had originally. It lasted 200 years so it obviously stood up to all the forces that it was subject to. It was weakened by rot so the main problem was most likely water. <br>

Also, if the walls have pushed out, then the roof will have settled from it's original position. You'll most likely have to lift the ridge beam or possibly push up the peak of the A before installing the new beam. If you decide to do this yourself, it is possible to do. Just take your time and think out each step. There are large static forces at work in all structures and an unstable building like yours can be quite dangerous if it's of any size.<br>

Thanks for the tips. I looked at a small (4 foot) spring tooth harrow at Fleet Farm yesterday. You can pull it in two directions which changes the angle of the spring teeth or you can flip it on its back and use it like the chain fence you were talking about. It runs $259 though. Sounds like a section of old fence might be a cheaper option at first.

Yooperpete - I was re-reading this thread this morning and focused on your note about getting a ticket from a "weighmaster". I never considered that I might need to stop at highway weigh stations if I travel main roads. Will I need to do that pulling a tandem trailer behind my Suburban?

I have owned a nice Kubota compact for several years--terrific tractor, but a little older and I was looking to upgrade. I kept an open mind with regards to all brands, and ended up purchasing a 2000 Cub Cadet 7205. I was impressed with the machine, and it had every feature I was looking for, including a really great price. At only 238 hours, the unit is almost new, and the front loader and 60" MMM are near perfect. Any comments about the 7205 are appreciated. Incidentally, the 1990 Kubota 6200 is for sale.<br>

I know the trailering laws in the state of Pa. are as AV8R stated.
Each machine must have at least 1 chain to each corner of the machine.( minimum 4 chains per machine). Also we must have a seperate chain for the bucket and any implement must also have its own chain.

I also drove quite a long distance to shop at Tarheel. I also dealt with Steve as my main contact and he was great. They beat my local dealer by quite a large margin. My local dealer told me to go ahead and drive if I wanted to waste my time. I got about 3 hours into the drive and my local dealer called me and told me he would come close to Tarheels price and save me the drive. I told him to go take a flying leap. Steve was very helpful and gave me quite a few pointers as this was my first tractor.(I am also a yankee and them good ole boys dont think we can handle manual labor) I will be buying another tractor next year and I will be driving to North Carolina to pick it up. If any of you ever go there ask Steve about the local barbecue place the food was just fantastic. I am not associated in any way with Tarheel I just love the service and price they gave me.

Have you thought about buying an old Fordson 2N or 8N? Or a Ferguson? I used a 1947 2N for about two years up until 2003 when I decided to bite the bullet and bought a New Holland 4wd TC33D for about $13,500 (now they are closer to $20,000). I bought my 2N in pieces for $800, paid a buddy $200 to assemble it and get it working, $100 paint job, and used it for 2 yrs and got $2400---and the buyer was thrilled (my dealer said he didn't even want it because it would sit there even if he asked $1800) Here near Detroit it isn't uncommon to see $3500 for a nicely restored 1940's tractor. A junky old one still fetches $800-$1800. The old tractors are not only reliable but cheap and easy to work on and you can still get just about part you'll ever need.

Personally, I like the 3-pt with forks on a skid better. You can drop it anywhere, when in long-time storage you can put it high up on a pallet shelf (providing you have a forklift), and more importantly from my experience having things stolen off the job and from home---having it on a very heavy skid and on one that is a little larger than what could fit comfortably in a pickup truck bed makes it less attractive to thieves. If you did it right you could even build a shed frame or protective roof for short-term outside use/storage.

On my last break-in thieves actually disassembled my $4000 welder/generator to get it out of my 24' enclosed carhauler backed up tight to a 10' fence and posts. And it was bolted to the floor too. But that didn't matter 'cause they used my own tools to take it apart! Talk about handing them the keyes! And the worst part is I had cancelled my "commercial tool coverage" just two weeks prior---who needs insurance?

I believe Ertl makes a complete line of tractors but they are all complete. They are known more for the NASCAR model cars. I know you can also purchase completed models at JD and CNH. You will get more enjoyment out of the real thing!

PIP is the JD Product Improvement Program. If they have a problem area, and a redsigned part will improve, they will replace the parts under the program even if yours are not broken, or out of warranty. However you have to be having a concern ie: there is an excessive amount of noise comming from the diferential on a downhill push in this gear but not in this one...

Wow is what I can say about the new truck. Soooo quiet soooo powerful, how can the 2 go together. Then throw in good fuel milage. I added a picture, number 14. The wife doesn't think the tires will last very long and I am still trying to be gentle. Pulling out quickly through an intersection, you can hear the tires wanting to break free, one time we went through a little puddle and then back on dry highway and when 1st ended, second barked. I have put about 200 miles on and it has all been back roads in the rolling hills of SE PA and northern MD, with a bit of idleing and putting around the house and neighbors farm, at the bay, etc. Right now about 18.3 MPG according to the computer. I started it when I left for the Chesapeake Bay and when I got there it was 20.5 MPG. It went down with all the putting around. As far as what I got-- 2500 SLT package, the color I wanted, would have gotten the 3500 but you can not order anymore and all the moron dealers have is 3500 short beds. Power seat(must have), light group, skid plates, thunder road package(includes good wheels, towing hooks and towing package, fog lights,sliding window), fold flat storage(must have), anti spin diff(most important), fold away power heated towing mirrors(very cool), block heater(standard in 2004, but the cord is optional in 2005 for $10.00???), BF goodrich AT tires, hood shield, bedliner.

Does any one know if a water pump can be installed on a Yanmar 1600. I know it is a thermosiphon system but in my climate I need the extra water flow a water pump will supply.
