My neighbor's 4310 (pretty sure) has had driveline problems too. Something snapped in the 4wd system going to the front axle a few months ago ($400 repair). Recently something else broke and now if he is under load and lets off the HST pedal to either reduce speed or stop-- it will keep going until the engine stalls when he applies the brakes. Another guy I know shattered the rear pinion and ring gear on his.

I've heard of this situation before, but not very often.

I seem to recall the switch that senses if the PTO is engaged or not is stuck in the 'engaged' position, therefore the unit thinks the PTO is running when it is not.

Right off the bat I'd say you're trying to find a Swiss Army Knife that cuts grass.

For cutting the grass you won't need a huge machine, provided you have some patience.

However, if you intend to regrade 3.5+ acres of land that changes things a little.

My recomendations would be to a) buy a dedicated grass cutter, that way you won't spend all your time cutting grass, then b) buy a small CUT to do the regular maintenance items, and c) hire a pro with big machines to build the strip, it will be money well spent.

We just took one in that was from another dealer and we have no repair history on but looking at the deck the center hub was reinforced to the frame of the mower which might have been done to stop your problem. It will be a couple of weeks before we can get it in to check it over for resale. I'll try and see why the modification was made.

We have a fellow that was good enough to allow me to work his new CTL80 Gehl and I do have to say it is a tank! He is what I call a casual user as his 60 that he traded in only had 50 hours on it. His main use is for snow removal with a blower during the winter but he also picked up a dozer blade for this one.

ct you are not the only one to feel that way! In as much as I often have the ability to use a large variety of equipment I am sometimes short of time to get the job done. If you were to make the move up do go to the three range transmission as it allows you to do much of your digging in the middle range making the trips up your path faster by several mph. The larger tractor will hinder manuverability from time to time over the BX but you really have to make a jump over several size tractors to make it worth your while. I was talking to a customer the other day and he was talking about how few hours that he is currently putting on his BX23 now that he is done with his excavating for a while. He was at 100 plus hours a year on his prior machines and liked to trade every other year but he is having trouble getting the hours on his with just mowing. He currently has 7 1/2 acres with about four acres of lawn and the rest between woods and steep elevation changes on each side of 50' to 75' with a small stream meandering thru his property.

I've finally spent enough money on tractors (JD2210) and implements (rake, BB, FEL, 52" tiller) and now my wife says I need to use them to fix the lawn!!<br>

We are on some hard packed dirt (not soil) in the rear of the house. Mostly rotten granite/clay with lots of rocks.<br>

I tilled the surface down about 2-3 inches yesterday. I used my landscape rake to smooth out the area and pick out the bigger rocks/roots. Then I spread 14 yards of good screened topsoil at about 4-6 inches over the whole area with the FEL and back dragged it.<br>

Now I need to smooth out or level the topsoil. I know I could use a hand rake, but I'd rather play with the tractor. What implement works best for this task?<br>

Years ago I used a small garden tractor and pulled an old piece of metal railing with weight on it for leveling a short grantie driveway. Can I just pull an piece of angle iron? Or and 2x8? Or a ____? I seem to have heard discussion on a "Harley Rake" for this. I could rent one but the job is pretty small.<br>

What suggestions do you have for sreading this soil more evenily? Thanks for any help.<br>

my 7 series bh on my 790 has its own relief valve this to has to be tweaked,I dont think I will do it,Ive found out that a little more time is better than replacing parts.

I have been looking for my first tractor. I have been thinking about purchasing a Kioti. I seem to have read that a lot of owners of the LB1914 have had problems with steering. I am now leaning towards the CK30. I will be mowing 4 acres and maintaining a driveway when it snows. I would really appreciate any advice I can get. Thanks

Hey Mike--

You don't say what size tractor you have or if 2wd or 4wd. Also, you don't say if it's wet snow, versus light fluffy stuff, ice underneath, what implement you are using etc..

The long and the short of it is I'd go with good quality tire chains regardless of what you have to work with tractor wise.

To be honest, a old beater truck with a plow is the way to go. It's quicker, safer, and you have heat!

If you are mowing only and in a straight line or circle then DT "may" be ok. With FEL(Hydro only) or manuvering around objects and going forward and reverse with any degree of precision then Hydro is only choice. Also if time is of any value Hydro. I didn't understand Hydro benefits until I got one. Would be sick now if I had got HD then tried Hydro. Was mowing a few days ago around a shrub and thought how great this hydro works and how much more work a DT would be and more time consuming.

Thanks oneace, I split the tractor again, Like a fool, I put the throwout on backwards. Tractor runs fine now. I do have another problem that just appeared when I hooked up my front loader. Trans oil is leaking (Running) out from under a plate that is above the rocker for the 3 point. Did I blow a gasket or something here or what. Whats under that plate, I just dont want a bunch of springs or bearings fly out on me when I remove it. Thanks for all of your help Oneace and Kubotaguy. You guys know your stuff.

Thanks, Yooper. I went looking at my local GoodYear store and got lucky. I found three matching used Marathon P205/75 R15 trailer tires with reasonable tread left. And to my surprise they found another trailer tire of the same size but from a different manufacturer as well. I'll get them all mounted with new valve stems for $90. I thought that was a fair deal.<br>

Now a question on tying the tractor down to the trailer. I've seen people use chain and web belts. I have two long/strong web belts (2" wide) that I was hoping to use. Where is the best spot to run these belts. Do I just loop them over the axles? Do I use the rear frame hitch? Can I run them over an attached implement?<br>

Any advice and/or pictures?<br>

The King Kutter would be fine.
I run a King Kutter 6' brushmower. Cleared my overgrown 15 acres with it (cut down some trees/brush around the diameter of my wrist) with no problem.
