Sounds good. I will definitely look around for one . Or something similar. Fianances are of course a consideration. I will keep you all posted if I can make the case to the CFO. The Backhoe would be a most welcome piece. Nothing Like Hydraulics to make a big job small.

If you mean the the controls on the fender by control console; yes. My Deere shop manual is still all packed up from the movers and I don't have access to it but I think the codes may be stored in the controller. Not sure about that.

lbrown59 bought his nearly a year ago, so his prices won't be accurate and yes, they come as a package, not itemized. The $16,900 sounds a bit high. I'd shop that number around a bit more. That more than I paid (Oct 2003) for my 2230, FEL, 54" deck, grass catcher and front snowblower.

I have the bagger for my BX2230 and 54" deck. It is an extremely well made attachment that is relatively expensive, but definitely worth the money.

If you are in serious snow country, a rear snowblower is a neck/back breaker. The front mount snow blower is well worth the money just for the ergonomics.

Hi,
We've had our JD5103 for little over a year now and have had not troubles whats so ever! Like others have said time will tell. I just finished the 100hr service. My oil plug was on there really tight. Ended up having to use a pipe wrench to get it off!!! Add weight and you be glad and happy with the tractor...

I would say that you're leaning towards a Kubota because you posted your question here in the Kubota forum. I had a 1982 JD 1050 and all I ever did besides routine maintenance is replace the battery and clutch. I bought a new 4310 in 2003 loaded with all of the options. I've had a couple of minor problems which still aren't repaired. Because of the poor dealer support I just bought a Kubota mower. It was like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.

We have a few Hondas, they have held up well to probably more punishment a year than an average person could inflict in a lifetime.

Two years ago we bought a couple of Bombardiers also. So far they have also been good machines. They are certainly more 'user friendly' and as with any Bombi product, are obviously well-engineered and thought out.

John Deere now sells the Bombardier line-up of ATV's with their paint and name on them. Some are all Bombi, some have been made a little more 'Greene' by swapping engines for Kawi mills and such. But all in all I'm sure they would be good units also, they are certainly affordable enough.

I would be very interested as well in what the problems were caused by. My understanding is that Deere pretty much used the drive lines from the 4000 Ten series and the major changes were in the engine.

For grass and weed string trimming I use an el cheap Harbor Freight $39 Homelite that has lasted me for over 10 years. For the really heavy stuff I have a Stihl FS450K. With the exception of the small string trimmers; ALL of my equipment in this area is Stihl. They are pricey but hold up unbelievabley well and last a LONG time. My Stilh O-66 chain saw is going on 13 years old and she still runs like new.

It could be any of a number of things causing this. I would suggest double checking all wire connections and grounds 1st. Then it is most likely narrowed down to the sending unit or gauge. Being that is sounds like this just recently happened and both gauges at the same time; I would think a faulty or corroded wire connection or fuse could be the culprit.

As already stated; you want some degree of give with the rock shaft arms but not too much. If you have already set the sway braces to the minimum amount of sway and you are still getting tire rub; if your machine allows, you may want to try adjusting tire width. On slopes the widest possible tire width is desireable anyway. I have a similar problem with my 4410 as the tire width is for the most part not adjustable. My sway braces are sliding links with lock pins which allow some flex but I have to be very careful about the heads of the pins rubbing the tires in some cases. Poor design on Deere's part.

I did, pulling an offset Swisher with a 60" JD430. I ended up with mismatched swaths, five foot of nicely cut grass behind the JD, and a mess behind the Swisher. The normal JD ground speed was much too fast for the Swisher to cope, and the Swisher bounced badly too. Reducing ground speed resulted in elapsed mowing time about equal to what the riding mower could do at normal John Deere speed. I got rid of the Swisher.<br>

For many set-ups you couldn't depress the clutch far enough to disengage the clutch if installed backwards! After seeing Kubota's factory I do think it very well would be isolated. They have a very unique assembly line procedure that I've never seen before in this country.
