Help, I got a 6' Curtis FM when I bought my tractor. I need new blades and blade lock nuts. So far all web searches have not provided any info on the mfg of this unit. Anyone Know about it?

I don't know where you check the oil on a 3054.
But the transmission and back rear end ( rear axle) use the same reservoir/fluid.

Don't get your self worked up too much yet. This kind of thing happens all the time with every brand. If it is not working right and it is still under warranty you really have nothing to worry about. There is really nothing you can do in 116 hours that they can throw back to operator error. If they want to charge you to fix it trade it in but I doubt you will see a bill.

You're right, that is alot of torque.
I finally torqued them to 150 foot pounds, because
that's as high as my torque wrench will torque to.
I know I could add an extension and do the math to get to the 220 foot pounds, but I've used the mower at this 150 ft. lb setting and it seems ok.
Besides, I what to be able to get these nuts off with a wrench next time rather than cutting them off like last time.

Does the engine start, run and sound ok? If it seems normal it should be fine. Modern oils are really good, just the traces from the mixed fuel can provide enough lubrication.

What ratio do you mix? Many oils could be ran quite lean even 100:1 or 150:1, not recommend though. I run Golden Spectro Racing Two Stroke at 50:1 in all my two strokes with premium fuel. I have never seized even one on the Golden Spectro even back when I raced Husqvarna and KTM Dirt Bikes.

My local dealer who quoted $600 to fix this problem. His solution was to replace the whole assembly. I finally spoke with someone at Cub Cadet tech support and they told me how to fix it wit $5 worth of parts!
The solution is to remove the frame cover (6 bolts) to get access to the top of the cluth assembly. The clutch assembly has a cover on on the top rear. If you remove this cover (3 bolts) you will see a bearing. The clearance between the outer race of this bearing and the cover (put straight edge against it shuold be 2/1000 - 7/1000. If it is not your clutch will slip. To fix it buy some $2 shims (washers). The part numbers are
736-3126 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.005
736-3127 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.010
736-3104 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.015
736-3105 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.020
736-3106 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.025
736-3107 - Washer, flat, 1.25 x 1.8 x 0.062

Once you have these remove the bearing. Press on the forward pedal to help push it out and then pull it the of the way. I did this with a bent heavy paper clip. Insert the proper washers to get back within spec (2/1000 - 7/1000), insert the bearing and put the cover back on.
If the spacing is to small (< 2/1000) then the tractor may creep when idling in 1st gear. Other than that you shuold be in good shape!

I assume this will work on any cub cadet lawn tractor with auto-gear transmission.

Do some more checking. If I am understanding the post correctly it sounds like he sold you an over-sized Cat 1/2 PHD.

There are units out there that will fit properly. He should take this one back.

Ducati: I know the mower cannot be used with a backhoe sub-frame in the way... It is the forward mounting brackets that concern me. They are attached to the FEL mounting posts and stick straight down about 5-6 inches.

Shine: I think all I need to know is if the mower deck extends far enough forward so that it sits directly under the FEL mounts.

I can vouch for the Brown BedMaster machine. I have had one since 1995 and still use it weekly. Only had to replace belts and rotors. The bed rotor will do about 20,000 ft of edging in hard GA. clay before replacement. Goes at about 10 ft per min. Mine does not have the steerable wheels which the newer ones does. Current price is in the $2000. range. My dealer rents one for $500 per week and it is never available during stawing season.

I wonder as to if he is sizing you up for a couple of projects for himself! He seems like a good neighbor as he is giving you plenty to do get some stick time with your new machine. I do wonder if that is a central NY thing as I have several neighbor chores to do as soon as I can get to them, all need a little different equipment from full size hoe or excavator down to a chainsaw but none of the jobs are for me! How'd you do on the other dirt you need to move?

Very interesting. The kubota's price tag is much higher though. Around here, Ferris is by far the least expensive ZTR mower on the market.

Wasn't it full of grease when you took it apart? If the steering problem is only to the right then you might have assembly problems.

The 4690 is a seassoned unit that has been in the line-up from Kubota for years. The BH-75 is a newer design that has a great hook-up to the tractor that is superior to any thing else out there for good support. It doesn't loose the ground clearence that the subframe hoes do and yet gives you a four point hook-up and requires no tools to go between three point hitch and the hoe.

Most autopart stores will recycle your used anitfreeze. Also, Tractor Supply Store will recycle up to 5 gallons at a time of oil, antifreeze, ect. at a time.

My factory catcher/vac does such a nice job that do not regret the $$. Leaves, pine needles, grass clippings are all picked up without a problem.

I helped a neighbor who rented a thatcher this spring at his place, he thatched and I followed and vacuumed it up. I was very impressed by the amount of suction created by the unit. He doesn't pic the clippings, and was surprised at the amount that we took off his yard. His yard looks beautiful now for having done this.
