Kubota on their heavy duty round back bucket offers an additional bolt on cutting edge that is at least 1/2" thick depending on model and hard! This adds a lot of reinforcement to the cutting edge from bending or flexing when lifting highly concentrated loads. Their standard bucket does not have a bolt on option but as the edge wears if attention is given soon enough they can have a new weld on added to it in about an hour or so depending on choice or type of attachemnt or the old could be removed and the replacement welded on. When adding the additional cutting edges, the type of bucket teeth as an addition might be limited if there is need for them.

I can see the start of a building in the back of the picture. That means there is indoor storage coming. When working around clay it is important to add a lot of drainage capacity because it sure doesn't absorb much. I hope you didn't get into trouble with it being Mothers day weekend!

Hey Guys, I have 14 acres of somewhat wet soil (there is probably a 2 acre pond on the property) without rocks that is grass. I guess the soil could be described as glacial till. Its pretty bumpy in places. I would like to work it to smooth it out and then replant grass. I have a Kubota L3130 and a disk and box scraper. I was thinking a plough would be best to turn over the old sod, then disk and then drag? That would help level it somewhat. Then reseed and roll? What do you guys think? Would a tiller be better for me? There arent any hills on my property. How big of a roller do I need?<br>

Sounds pretty well summed up. price for name brand, used, 25-35 hp, hydro, 4x4, with loader and less than 1000 hours, $10-18,000. I bought my 2000 JD 4300 hydo 430 loader, with 299 hours for 14,500, private sale. If you think you do not need a hydro, you will be punished one way or another. Either in using it or reselling it later. I have almost all woods and can't imagine all the tight manuvers without it with the mower and the loader.

A few of details to keep in mind with the carriage you are making.
1. The pins from JD are made to be inserted through a hole in the steel and welded from behind so as not to leave a bead to keep the carriage from making good contact with the loader mount. That is why they are so long. If you just weld them on, the hole for the clip will be an inch from the loader mount and allow lots of slop movement of the forks when they are pinned on. You could cut the pins down to allow just the right space and then grind a bevel on the base of the pin and fill it with weld if you don't want to have them go through steel and weld from behind.
2. Take off you bucket and roll the mount all the way back. If you don't make the bottom of the forks stick out farther than the top from the loader mounts, you will not be able to roll the forks back and pick anything up at ground level. I found 2 inches extra at the bottom was enough to satisfy me, and this was the standard for the skid loader forks I modeled.
3. If you are using real forklift forks, the carriage will need 2 tracks for the forks to slide on 16 inches apart. I used 1/2 inch thick steel flatstock and ground the back edges to match the standard carriage shape.

Keep in mind the FEL has freed many a stuck tractor that otherwise would have to be pulled out. If you think there is little chance of actually getting stuck, yes take it off.

Randy, two ideas that might make the job a little simpler;

First, try the easy approach, those rims are often a little sneaky, the outer diameter of one side is often a little smaller than the other, this is to ease changing tires. Use a caliper and check, or you will hate yourself afterwards, LOL.

If the above idea falls through we have developed another way around it. Using a vice or large 'C' type vise grips pinch as much of the old tire as possible and then use a sawz-all to carefully cut out the piece stuck in the vice. Now use a big pair of bolt cutters to snip the beads and the wires they contain. Be careful during all of this not to scratch the rim, if you do you will find you have slow leak for ever in that tire.

Although I've never tried it personally, I have an employee who claims the easiest way to cut off an old tire is to use two lengths on wire rope and a come-along. He puts the first piece of wire rope through the hub and joins it into a large circle, which he slips over his trailer hitch. He then puts the second piece of wire rope around the tire itself by passing between the tire bead and rim, and back out the other side and again joing it in a circle. He then uses the come-along to pull against something else, like a tractor, stretching the tire out as far away from the rim as it will go. He then just starts cutting the tire with a sawz-all starting from the bead and working outwards towards the tread. As it slacks off he just gives the come-along a few more cranks. Just be carefull not to pull so hard as to bend the rim.

I have a 4410 with a 300cx loader...great machine but I have also found the tractor to be a little light in the rear. I know the book recommends fluid, ballast box, and three wheel weights for each tire. I simply don't want that much weight either since it is my mower as well. For me, a little counter balance weight (like a box blade or ballast box)and taking "smaller bites" is what I do. I know it's not up to JD specs, but it has worked for me.

Art, since you have your own dealership, I suppose I'm directing this more so at you. I thought the Chevron synthetic was expensive at $86 for 5 gallons until I went to purchase the F200 fluid. My local New Holland dealer didn't have it and said he wouldn't get more fluid in for a year because he had just ordered it a week ago and that he has to buy X Number of pounds at a time. I tried another dealer who did have it in stock. They said it was $107.50 for 5 gallons. I told them I could get synthetic for less than that. I ordered the Chevron Synthetic Hydro Fluid yesterday. They said they do deliver in this area and so I didn't have to pay any shipping. I still can't get over the price of the F200 fluid. It's an ALL SEASON fluid but it's not synthetic. I would imagine you have the F200 or something similar. Why is it so expensive?

After re-checking the temps for that night it did get down to 27 F. I always have kept it in a garage but that night I did leave her out doors to rough it under the stars. No I did not have it plugged in, it was about 8am and had warmed up to a balmy 32 F or so. That was my suspition, (that it was because of the cold) In over a year, I have never had it crank even a second or two, usually fires right up, even after sitting for months at a time.
Now I am going nutze! Looked at the weather forcast for this coming week. Rain every day! So much for getting the fields finished for planting next weekend when I was supposed to go turkey hunting! Looks like I may have to take a run up to the UP of Michigan instead. I found a cultipcker that a guy may have finished up for me (he is cutting it down and re rigging it for a pull type.
