Dave, you're off just a little bit.

The two sides of a hydraulic cylinder are NOT the same in volume, nor even close for that matter.

One side of the cylinder has a piston in it, that piston's worth of volume must be made up by fluid on the opposite side.

This is also why a cylinder has much power in one direction than the other, the cylinders power is created by fluid pushing against a piston, however in the retract direction the area of the piston if diminished by the area of the piston rod itself.

For example a 4" cylinder with a 2" rod, supplied with 1500 psi, would develop 18,850 pounds extending, but only 14,137 pound retracting, a difference of nearly 2.5 tons.

Likewise, that same cylinder, with say a 24" stroke, would have a volume fully extended of about 302 cubic inches, and fully retracted of about 227, or a difference of 75 cubic inches. That doesn't sound like much, but it is a difference of 1/3 of a gallon, if you consider how many cylinders could be involved the volume can add up fast.

I was wondering if there is any interest in a bolt on power steering unit for the B 7300. I have built several kits for the local area and have had perfect results and no complaints with the units. The B7300 is already plumbed for power steering, it's just not installed. Soot me an e-mail if interested. Tnx tom

Dedeye, I m still a little mystified by your description of "a total transmition failure".

As for "what in my opinion is a weak link in the product." you need to re-read my post. My units plow snow commercially for a living, full throttle, full blade of snow, plus a sander on the 3pth.

With thousands of hours on each of dozens of machines not one single failure.

If you're "total transmission" only cost $3,200 then Scott should go back to his dealer, they want $3,000 for just the valve body.

I suspect your machine suffered a "mechanical failure caused by a loose nut behind the wheel" (not referring to you of course, you did say you bought it used).

If that is the case I doubt that a) Kubota should do anything about it, or b) that it relates to any short-comings of the machine itself.

I need the steering shaft assembly for a Ford 1100. Specificlly, I need the shaft, block for the recirculating ball bearings and the shaft bearings. If necessary, I will consider buying a whole 1100 or possibly a 1210 just to scavange for parts. Anybody - please help.

As a retired Vice-Pres. of Engineering and Operations I can assure you I've heard it all.
When you are the Engineer you know it all, but when you get to be VP,you have all the answers, but don't understand the Questions.
My Middle Son is an Engineer(EE) and also is a Certified Welder, but I never get him involved in a project as we seem to clash to much!

I use a 5 footer on my 7800 and it works great. I mowed a field for my brother in law and the grass was thick and around 4 foot high. I had to go to low range and creep along. I wouuld say it depends on how often you are going to cut the field. If you are going to cut it about once or twice a month I would go for the 72" but if you are only going to cut it 3 or 4 times a year, then go smaller.

There was heavy hard rubber insulation on the outside of all the strands that each had their own heavy insulation. Our local electric company put it in...maybe all "codes" are not like they are here in rural southern Indiana however. I know that property inside city limits have higher standards than in the country, even here.

My suspicion would be the cold weather. Do you normally park the tractor indoors? You didn't mention weather or not you used the heat start aid. Usually at a temp like 32 degrees, glow plug or intake heater grid heat is recommended prior to start. The other issue (and this may be a very small part in it) is that after a long period of hard use, the tractor engine and power train tend to get much warmer than normally with avaerage use. Diesel fuel being an oil will expand approx. 10% of it volume when heated and contract upon cooling off to the ambient temp. This could have contributed to the extra number of start attempts to repressurize the fuel lines. I doubt this is the case but it makes for a good story so I am gonna stick to it! ;o)

Hate to say it, but I've lost faith in this company.
I was contacted by Corporate New Holland Customer Service (Jim) and he was going to talk to the dealership.

Have not heard anything since. Been 4 days.

Anyway I bought a book, trouble shot, and figureout what was wrong. The junk is running again so I can cut my lawn and do some maintenance.

Bottom line is, I will never buy a New Holland product again, nor would I ever recommend their products to anyone.

Buy something GREEN or ORANGE

No just regular belts. It is amazing that 281 cubic inches can produce that much power. It is not easy I smoked 3 motors trying to get to this point. There is probably another 50-60 hp in the motor but at this point I have it tuned very rich an conservative. I went a little crazy several years ago with the whole "fast and furios sreet racing Thing" After a few close calls and the fact that the car was well known in the area and nobody else would race me I thankfuly outgrew it. Now I do mostly car shows. Last year I put less than 400 miles on the car.

I ran my tractor pretty hard for the first time this year. I done some serious plowing in some pretty wet field conditions. Had to pull the plow up a few times so I did not burry the rig (in a few wetter spots). I was amazed at how great the rig held up to the conditions and ran right thru it. Here is my question? I ran the fuel down to about 1 gallon left when I was done plowing. This was fuel left in the tank from last fall. The tractor ran great with that fuel. I parked my rig and went and filled it up with new fuel from a station down the road. The next moring (it was about 32 degrees) I went to start the rig and it did NOT fire up right away? It turned over maybe 10 times so I stopped the ignition. Waited about 10 seconds and started to try it again. It fired up and some black smoke came from it (only for a few seconds but more than usual) Is this from the cold weather or is it something to do with running it hard the day before? Is this something I should be concerned with? The rest of the day it started FINE like normal everytime. I am not really too concerned but was wondering what may of caused the hard start in the morning?<br>

Mine broke off at less than 100 hrs. Luckily, I was able to pull off the bellows and figure out what happened so I could raise the bucket valve enough with pliers to get the tractor out of the field and back to the barn while awaiting the replacement part. Not hard to fix, but a royal pain. It's been another 50 hrs, and it's feeling loose again. Gonna order another replacement part to have around when it fails again.

You are basically out of luck. I started this string a year ago and my L130 still smokes, and now has over 200 hours. A local engine repair guy said JD had a special kit with better bolts and a gasket, but my JD dealer didn't know anything about it. In fact, they worry the cheaper L tractors are going to cost business on the more expensive JDs. And it's easy to see why...not only does it smoke, but the wiring harness has no protection and rubs on sharp engine parts and the springs on the deck rub too. I lost one of those. Good luck.
