Yup. Had JM254 (same tractor - different decals) that did the same thing when the temp was below 45F. Colder it got, worse the engagement problem. Been mentioned over and over in these Chinese tractor forums, with no definite resolve. I fought mine for two winters before finally just getting rid of the tractor. But many 254 owners never experience the problem.

That said, the problem is VERY likely to be chronic. I'd ask the store to replace the tractor for one WITHOUT that problem, cuz you're likely NEVER to get it fixed to your satisfaction.

The reason the NC seller was cheaper in the first place was because they have less overhead. They don't have to pay for the service bays, tools and equipment, facility repair and maintenance, parts inventory, staff salaries, insurance, hazardous waste disposal, property tax, business tax, sewer tax, water tax, environmental levies, and payroll taxes to support out of state purchasers like yourself. All they need to sell tractors out of state is a computer, phone line and a parking lot. And they probably do it in NC because the business climate is friendlier there. The money to provide service has to come from buyers so the local guy wouldn't have just pocketed the extra money. Yes, the local guy should cheerfully service your machine and he sounds like an awful dealer. At least he's made no money from you.

Ann, I'm Canadian so it's Revenue Canada not the IRS, but they both have the same mentality and try the same crap.

Besides, when you're right it's easy to be bold.

There is really only two practical ways to do it, either remove the clay or bury it under enough topsoil that it doesn't matter.

It is possible however to 'convert' the clay, but it's a BIG job.

Cover the clay with a sand / organics mixture and roto-till the daylights out of it, keep repeating that until the soil is the right consistency.

When we build out golf courses and encounter pockets of clay like that we just dig it out and replace it with better soil.

You did it right. the offset of the tiller is to cover your tire tracks on one side. If the tiller is wider than the tractor then you could center it on the tractor but having the pto offset is very hard on the universal joints.

Built rite is a low density fiber board that has virtually no structural value. If you use built rite you will need to put in steel diagnal bracing between the built rite and the studs. You should also put plywood or osb in the corners. The only advantage to built rite is a little more r value but I would at other material for that purpose.

What do you have against osb? The manufacurers claim it is stronger than plywood. I'm not sure I believe that but it certainly has enough structural integrity for wall sheeting.

You are getting the MMM so do not load the tires, get a rear grader blade or box scraper, or weight box for ballast. This assumes you will mow for the whole cutting season.

The 2004 Kansas income tax form had a new line this year titled "consumer's compensating use tax" and was a place to report taxes that were not paid on out of state purchases. This number got added to your total tax bill. If you did not know the amount, there was a simple chart that's based on adjusted gross income. For an average income, this amounted to $35. I am guessing that this is more for the state to collect taxes on internet purchases rather than border-hoppers, but the results are the same.

This weekend my neighbors 4400 would not start. Could feel the selonid click in. Remembered the posts from before so reread but it seemed different. Looked at the fuel pump.<br>

Relooked the selonid took it out and the tractor started. Problem was it would pull in for an istant then release to the open position. Assumed it was bad! Had it apart so took it to the bench and it worked fine.<br>

Went to the key switch it looked bad. Current would not hold. Tried one last thing. Pulled the fuel relay fuse and put mine in. That was it. A $5.00 part. A new selonid may have solved the problem because new needs less current. And maybe the new relay will take a crap if the other posts are correct about the known issue.<br>

Point here remember to look at the cheapest part first. The relay circuit breakers are a PIA to test. Keep a new one handy.

I have never looked into the skid-steer/4115 interface, but a couple of things come to mind.

1) The smallest, lightest skid steer I have encountered was 5+ times the weight of an unequipped 4115, therefore it has the ability to raise and counterbalance a great deal more weight.

2) Most every tool I have seen that attach's to a skid steer is operated by hydraulic pressure, while most tractor stuff is run off front, mid or rear PTO drive shafts.

Not counting things like pallet forks, there would seem to be a basic discrepancy in operating principles.

If you are building an implement from scratch, chances are it would not matter either way. Sub-CUTs do not have sway blocks that would be a problem so the arms could be adjusted to about any width up to the maximum spread. If the BX is like the Massey GC2300, the links can go out to normal Cat I width (26" plus a few more inches for hookup). The drawbar I have on my GC hitch is a normal 26" Cat I. One thing you might think of is making the frame so the pins can be reversed for different tractors. Turn them out for a normal Cat I tractor and turn them in for your BX.

I recommend breaking an engine in in the way it is to be used as long as it is not abused. Vary the throttle some and try running about 2/3rds throttle to 3/4's for mowing.
