The parts are not in yet for Rear Remote Control....yet. I had also asked him at the time when getting the stuff ordered several weeks ago to get the hydraulic cylinder and lines so that I could replace the top link (on my Case DX24E).<br>

What bothers me now is part of the response that I got this morning from the dealer with the following: "The center link cylinder is not an easy thing to find. So far the only thing I have found is to have one custom made and the cost would run you $375.00. Much too expensive but I have a couple of my reps looking for a better solution."<br>

Now, I have been into the local The Merchantile, which is similar to TSC, Fleet Farm, and others, and have seen short-stroked hydraulic cylinders. I really have not paid that much attention to them other than notice that they were there. Since working with the dealer, I was leaning on him to provide the cylinder and hoses as part of the overall package. I guess that I'll have to go in there over the weekend with the sole purpose of looking into what they have and seeing if it will work for me (after getting the Rear Remote Control installed). <br>

Now, if he really is having problems locating the right size to replace the top link, then maybe I need to start being a bit more agressive in the search. Is there a resource that you came across that had the "goodies" for replacing the TZ24DA/DX24E top link with a hydraulic option? I think that I'll at least write a note to CCM and see what they have to offer in providing me with the cylinder and hoses.<br>

Convetional wisdom is that you need about 5hp for each foot of width, however that is an average.

You will also have weight issues to contend with.

We had a little MF 22'ish hp Yanmar a number of years back and we used an old 5' rotary on it. If the grass was very heavy you went VERY slowly. Likewise when you had to lift the mower up, slowly was the word, a sudden increase in speed produced a wheelie until the tailwheel met the ground again.

It would however run a 6' finish mower OK, but again in long grass you werent going very fast either.

When I read the words "rolling fields" I think you maybe 'challenged' cutting uphill in long grass on a hot humid summer day.

Jerry for the four acres if you wanted to mow with a compact I'd recommend the B-series because of it's lightness over the L-series which could use the weight as an advantage for the undeveloped land. I'd look at a Zero turn mower to get the lawn done fast and then I'd look at one of the L-series with a loader for the back forty! You might want to look at the L-2800 or larger for the back. The price you may want to pay would dictate which models to look for.

I had a BX2200 with fel and mmm. I bought a BX1500 with 54"mmm so my wife could help me mow. It works great. Have traded BX2200 for a B7800 to do more of the heavy work but still have the BX1500 for mowing and also use it to pull landscape rake some times. Don't know about the tillers need for hp but as some one else told you, you will lose traction before losing pull power on any mowing. I had recommended to my neighbor the BX1500 because all he needs is a mower but he went for the BX1800 for that man's thing of "more power". Not putting him down, that's why I went for the BX2200 to start with.

I was at my local welding shop the other day and saw a mig wire designed for very thin metal. I have a Lincoln Weldpack 100 with the argon/CO2 for mild steel. I have been involved in go kart racing for several years. I build the chassis and roll cages and my children crash them. They are really good racers, no major wrecks (daughter is a former track champ) but I have to joke with them a little bit. Check out the link for this wire, it may solve your problem on the thin steel. I have not used this product, my materials are .083 or .095 thickness.<br>

Great Timing! I'm picking up my Woods GTC 52" Tiller on Friday. I've read what the Woods manual said about cutting the PTO shaft (if necessary), but your discussion made better sense. The issue of maxium overlap was a great tip. I, too, am sweating making a cut too short.

Measure twice - cut once! That will be my mantra.

Agreed that the number of pleats may not necissarily mean it does filter more effectively, I am willing to bet that the paper media used in most of these $3-$8 oil filters is very similar, in which case I will take more than less in the pleat department. The original filter did not just have more paper, it had a heavier wall and heavier internal parts. Don't forget the filter in comparison was the original part installed by Yanmar, who actually makes the engine.

I like to follow "specs" when reasonable but unfortunatley these are usually minimum requirements, not ideal. If they were than I would be changing the oil in my Dodge truck every 7500 miles as was spec'd in the manual, but changing it more often WILL make the engine last longer all other things being equal.

I think the difference here is between teaching respect for things that can cause injury and true irresponsibility. If the kids are too young to be able to grasp a concept of respect, then it is irresponsibility. The age at which this happens will differ from child to child. As parents, it is possible to over protect, but we can never over educate. Any parent that places a young child in potential harms way by choice however, is acting irresponsible.

International Cub Lo-Boy with 60" mowing deck. Runs good. Have original manual. Picture available on request. I believe it's a 1950's model? Interested in selling it to purchase something newer as it's an old tractor that likes to be tinkered with, and I'm a young woman who doesn't like to tinker.
