I'm glad to hear people's views on this. My brother in law and father in law regularly take my nephew (he is 3) for tractor ride. They are never using implements, but I still worry as one needs to hold onto a passenger with one hand, leaving only one hand free to operate. What if someone accidently drops the loader, the rider squirms suddenly, or the tractor lurches over a pothole or into a hole? It'sjust not worth the risk.

I won't drive around the yard with my son on my lap, so why would I operate a tractor that way?

Thanks for all the input. I visited another dealer yesterday whom had the 72"MMM on the L3430 with R4 tires and test drove it. There appeared to be no problems on flat ground - per the dealer he stated that if you have the deck raised all the way up, there could be a chance that the front tire would rub the deck on uneven ground but he did not think it was a big deal based on the number of sales with this setup.

Jerry, the biggest differences I see are the comparisons of weight and hydraulic output. The 3030 is listed at about 1800 lbs and the 3130 weighs 3300 lbs. I think the B series are primarily aluminum and the L series cast iron. Also the hydraulic output is 9.8 vs. 13.2 gal/min for the two. The specs for the 3030 do not separate steering hydraulics from implement hydraulics. Maybe it only has one pump?

The weight could make a big difference if you plan on using it around lawns or other weight sensitive areas. I use my L3130 for logging, BH and loader work where more weight is better.

ncrunch, is the rock you have the roundish type like fieldstone, or is it the flatter, more easily stackable type? The fieldstone type looks good when you actually see mortar joints between the rocks. I don't know how this solid wall would hold up as a retaining wall though.

Could you elaborate on the modification you described earlier? I would LOVE to have a way to quickly adjust the span of the lower arms on my BX. My implements vary widely. (no pun intended) I get tired of having to pull out the wrenches every time I mount up something to the 3PH. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Well, I'm about to start serious negotiations with a couple of nearby dealers for a B7800 w/FEL and mmm. I'm either going to trade in or sale my yr 2000 model bx2200 w/FEL and 4'RFM. Any ideas about a good price for both?

I purchased a TC40DA under much the same circumstances you described. I'm in the hardscaping business and needed a compact Tractor/Loader/Backhoe. Also purchased all the attachements to make life easier on our 22 acres, partially planted in trees. The 40 has not been a problem power wise. I've dug a lot of trench and done a lot of loader work (just this week over 40 yards of material excavated and loaded to be trucked off site). My problem is the tractor seems to be constantly tied up in the business, so I've just placed an order for another TC40DA, this time with no loader or backhoe, but strictly to be used on the property for brush-hogging, tilling, post-hole digging, and tree planting. If I thought I needed more HP, I would have used this opportunity to move up, but I'm so pleased with the 40, I never considered another size.

Are landscape rakes over rated for windrowing rocks in fields? Probably going to buy one soon and was wondering if my expectations are too high? Rocks being in the 2" to 1 foot range. Larger ones are easy to pick and remove but the constant picking of smaller rocks are killing us. A power rake is out of question money wise. My pic number 10 will give you an idea of what I have to deal with. I removed well over 50 buckets of rocks like this bucket full. Not only that but over the last 3 years I (and some buddy's) have thrown anouther 5000 rocks to the side of the fields. (Now I realize why the old farmers would have 6 kids or more LOL).

That 40 something price is what I see for 2 1/2 gallons around me for Credit Extra. I cannot believe any one still buys Roundup for $120, but there is no shortage of idiots to buy it and they keep selling it for that price, and I deal with wholesale Nursery suppiers, not places that an unsuspecting homeowner will get shafted, but the so called professionals.

I have posted here in the past with good advise always given. I have a 6 month old 4110 and love the new 3320 and am going nuts do I upgrade the diffrence would be about 8,000. I could put up my garage and buy a box blad for th 4110 for this amount. I would love to have more power it is 32 vr my 20. I find I need more digging power and more ump to push stumps etc. would it be that much more of a tractor does any one know.

As for the flail option -- I have an Alamo flail mower I bought to pull behind an ATV. It has not been a happy experience. I suspect it would be fine in a ball field or park, but it has just not been the right tool for the job. It doesn't cut dry late-season grass and the front lip catches on bumps and turf and as a result has flipped forward three times. I put bigger tires on it and anti-scalp rollers and still snagged it. Plus the turnbuckle that adjust the height has spun itself loose, dropping the front, and flipping it over. Also, anyone considering using an ATV to pull a mower should consider that you can't hold the speed steady -- its a real constant nag to keep things on track. Just my opinion.

Thanks for your response. It does look pretty run down for 800 hours but that was explained as weathering from outdoor storage. The fresh paint on the engine and undercarriage does make me suspicious. It also looks like it had a canopy at one time but its now missing. Having looked around a little more I'm starting to lose my enthusiasm for this unit. Its just more size than I need or want and the lack of a roll bar makes me a bit nervous. One dealer said he couldn't sell a tractor without one and I shouldn't buy from a dealer who would sell one without it. In any case, thanks for responding.

There's more to it than you would first think, but then I am using a non-conventional method, i.e. no saw to reduce the wood into pieces.

I'll echo everything everyone else has said. The BX1500 is a lot of bang for the buck and absolutely perfect for 2.5 acres. Don't be concerned with the 15hp engine, it's a mule! You will run out of traction long before you run out of power.

Do as Greg has suggested ,if you have no fuel coming out of the pump you will have to replace it.We have the pumps in stock,while they are not hard to replace,timing is alot more sensitive and we can walk you thru that.Let us know how it goes
