The time to mow the 43 acres with a 72" deck would depend on the ground speed but you would easily have 12 if not 15 hours involved in mowing and to do that twice a month would take to much time for me to layout. Part of the fun is the ability to use them but it would also be bad to add a job that would take more time then we might have.

I bought an 18 foot trailer for my 2210 about a year ago. Bought it from Dubberly Tractor & Equipment Company in Chester, Virginia. The price for the Superior(Manufacturer) dual axle with brakes was $1,695. I have never regretted going with the longer trailer. With the loader and bushhog it leaves just enought room to position the tractor for best weight distribution depending on what vehicle I am pulling it with.

When I purchased the tractor I thought I was going to haul it on my 10 foot single axle utility trailer. Glad I was reading this board last year.

me+5 30 hp might be on the small side for hp. BUT what does your old tractor weigh? What type of tires and what shape? What is the width and lenght of the wheel base?

You can buy a smaller/lighter tractor and the weight difference will be somewhat off set with the 4wd. However stability may then become an issue.

Hydros are probably OK. I've used them on lawn mowers and very large construction equipment. I still believe in the compact class nothing will do everything well and the geared transmission with a clutch gives me much more control and finesse on a wide variety of tasks. I agree a hydro would allow me to mow the lawn faster. But working in the woods pushing the envelope on size it is gear only for me. Large equipment is focused at fairly specific tasks also.

It sounds like you might be more in line with a regular ag tractor in the 40-50 hp range. Many of these are very capable of a wide variety of tasks and have a wide variety of attachments avaiable.

The stability of the larger frame and footprint can not be over looked.

Also for me, as Ken says, DEALER SUPPORT is #1. Bad non responsive dealers are a nightmare. Read the archives.

I think the 2210 would be a great starter tractor for a small business. I don't know if you plan on doing this as a lively hood or just a sideling. First you can get the 2210 for probably $3k less than the 4010. For that money you aren't running any bigger equipment than the 2210. If you start getting swamped with work that you could use a little more tractor you will usually come out trading in as long as you go bigger. They will give you good value for the 2210 and some of the attachments will probably fit the larger machine. My business theory is start with the smallest capital investment possible and move up as the business grows. There is nothing worse than trying to make a big equipment payment when things are lean at the beginning.

Of course...same tractor, different engine manufacturers. I forgot the two cylinders were Jiangdong. Mine were three cylinders from Yangdong. Makes sense now, thanks Chip.

I used my Jinma chipper for 2 hours today and was VERY impressed with this $1600.00 chipper. I threw some pretty big stuff at it and it just ate it up! I have done all of the suggested maintence before using it except the set screw in the feed drive shaft, but that'll be done before the next use.
You guys have been a tremendous wealth of knowledge and I appreciate it!!

So I guess I should probably just have it leveled and compacted by someone with a roller. My barn will be 24x36 and I assume Ill prep a 28x40 area for it. My plan is to remove 8 to 12 inches of topsoil and replace with 12 to 14 inches of gravel. Then compact, then add 4" clean stone drained with some 4" perf. pipe, then add 5" conc slab on top. By this time I think ill be sufficiently above the surrounding grade. I dont think there is any way to avoid gravel cost. Brokenarrow.... sounds like you had the right idea but just maybe bumped it up a little to higher than you needed by maybe a foot. You could have probably gotten away with 6-12 inches on the high side rather than 2 ft., but I wouldn't regret using the gravel over the soil (assuming I understood you correctly) Thanks.

Just be sure to maintain your fluid level because they have such a small reserve even a quart lost is bad.

A correction to my previous post. The EMF study involving seamstresses, tailors, and dress makers was a Finnish study and showed an increase in risk for cancer. A Swedish study did indicate a slight increase in risk for leukemia in children.

A good publication on EMF is "EMF in the Workplace" and can be acquired by calling 800-363-2383. This is a September 1996 publication. Another good publication is "Electric and Magnetic Fields from 60 Hertz Electric Power: What do we know about possible health risks?". This is published by Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

I have a Pronovost 5x8 off road, dual axle model that came with my (used) TC45D package; the bed is over the axles. This thing weighs a ton just by itself, very well built. One of my neighbors has a Bri-Mar. He is as happy with his as I am with mine. My only problem is I don't have a FEL for my tractor to load it yet...
