The time needed to cut this many acres would be a little discouraging to me. A 9-foot mower at 4mph gives a capacity of only about 4 acres per hour. (Approximate acres/hour = width (ft) times speed (mph) divided by 10.) So, one would have to plan on nearly ten hours per mowing.

Personally, I would find a neighbor to cut and bale the grass for hay. Assuming that the field yields 1 ton per acre per year and the grass can be sold for $50/ton (both are typical for decent grass hay) gives a gross income of $2150. The landowner would usually get 1/3 of the net income as rent payment.

Of course, another assumption that I am making in saying all this is that the grass is of a type in demand for hay. Timothy, brome, and others make good salable hay. Fescues and the like would probably not.

You might put out the word that you're interested in trading the R1's for R4's. Sometimes that works. You could also ask the dealer if they'd be interested in working out a trade. I don't know of any dealer for tractor tires (but they probably exist). Swapping these can be a bear, even if they're not loaded. You'll want to make sure to stick with OEM sizes so you don't get the front/rear ratio out of whack and burn something up.

New member with a question. I currently own a JD318 for mowing and snowblowing. I am very close to purchasing a JD2210 for a small tractor business. I plan to offer rototilling, drive way grading and top soil/mulch work for small home owners with 1 to 5 acres of land. The 2210 should offer a light footprint and not leave tracks in a residental area. What do you other tractor owner think? Is the 2210 enough tractor?

I think a six footer on that size tractor is
not only a little heavy, it also needs more
pto horsepower. I would get (have one) a 5 footer
If you have no rocks, you can always go faster.
Very chancy that a 6 footer would be workable.

I have a 12' X 88" W X 4'H dump trailer with dual 7000 # axles and load range G tires. I use it to haul manure and wood shavings for my horses. Make sure hydraulic system battery charges off vehicle. It's a bummer when you go to dump and there's not enough juice left. I should have gotten 3' sides and 14 foot length because my tractor bucket just barely goes over the side when loading and it's hard to evenly spread the load inside. With tall sides like I have, it would be easy to overload trailer if I filled it with sand or rock. Trailer was made by TARGET, an east TX company. Rear doors swing like barn doors to both sides. You must make sure to hook them back before dumping or they will contact the ground and slide off the hinges (voice of experience talking here). I probably should have gotten rear door hinged at top like a tandem dump truck for my purpose but if I had, it would have made loading into the trailer difficult if you ever used it for hauling something that had to be loaded from the rear by forklift or by ramp.

Guys, thanks for the info. I'm going back up this weekend to see where the price is. I think what he is asking is a little high but I know the ball is in my court because he's moving and not a real good advertiser. I think if I hold out I can rob it for 10k which will be a steal in my opinion considering it has a backhoe.

I'll keep everyone posted if it happens. I'm not big on gear drive but this would be a nice machine for that price.

Latest! I'm going to put 3 on my truck,and when i get home my friend at the local trucking Co. will unload them with forklift. Then I go to my Barn which is about 1 mile, pick up my trailer and he will load them on my trailer and then I can unload with my 4110.
He said I would be ok to haul 1500 lbs in my Truck??

I have the LA211 loader and it was on, I also have 2 50# wheel weights off my Wheel Horse on there. The rippers were pretty much set at the level position only knocking out high spots and it still broke the wheels when I filled it with gravel and tried to keep moving with the blade down.

Don't get me wrong, it worked fine but I really believe a 5' blade is overkill. Plenty of ponies under the hood but just not enough weight to pull it's own weight with all that resistance. There is an incredible size difference between the 4 and 5' box scrapers. The weight is over 100 pounds along with a much higher moldboard. Along with the weight difference you also will have much more material.

I had planned on getting a 5' because I plan on upgrading my machine to a bigger one soon but I'm glad I stumbled on the deal for this one. I was out the door for 275 so when I sell my BX2200 soon the blade will go to the new owner.

I found with the driveway, rather than try to pull the full 180' I did 50' at a time knocking down the high stuff and then once it was knocked down I could drag and grade the full 180 feet. Every year I need another 20 ton of stone. With the way this spread it out, I think I will get buy with 5 ton for touch up this year. I never though a 300 pound huink of steel would make me smile as much as my 1500 pound hunk of steel it's attached to!

I have a John Deere 400 and the coupling between the power take off and the pump is badley worn. The couplers are 2"dia. and approx 1" thick with three pie shaped lugs that interlock and act as a universal joint. I am sure thest have a proper name but I don't know what it is or where to get new ones. I have rebuilt the lugs with my welder and filed them to fit as good as I can but would like to get new ones. Thanks in advance for any help<br>

I don't know about the tail light, but the hazard lights use a proprietary bulb. I found this out the hard way after looking for a replacement at about a half dozen auto parts stores with no luck. I learned though, that the only difference between the Kubota bulb and a standard 1156 (single fillement) automotive bulb is the position of one of the "nubs" or side protrusions that engage the socket. Physical size, wattage, and electrical resistance are the same. So I carefully filed down the offending nub from a spare bulb I had, installed it, and it works perfectly well. Three minutes an a little effort will save you a trip to the Kubota dealer and probably a couple bucks.

This response maybe too late to help you on making your decision, but maybe it will help some else at a later time.

First I would check with the engineering department of the utility company which crosses the property. Determine the width of easement(if they have one) and the type and voltage of the power line. If the line is only a distribution line which is normally < 25KV ( could be as high as 35KV) nothing to worry about. If its a transmission line and no larger than 69KV, here again, I wouldn't be concerned.

The larger the voltage line the larger the easement and the larger the supporting structures. I would not want to see a large transmission line from my house.

As to EMF, electromagnetic fields, the jury is still out. There have been a lot of studies, but none with conclusive evidence that EMF causes cancer. There was a study done in Switzerland involving sewing machine operators and the study showed a slight increase in the possibility of leukemia. This is low voltage 120/240 single phase and the operators use their machines 8 - 10 hours per day.

EMF is caused by the electric current traveling through the conductor which sets up a magnetic field around the conductor. This field will alternatively build and collapse at the rate of 60 times per second. If the field is strong enough it can induce current into a conductor placed in its field. However, the field strength decreases rapidly with distance.
