Thanks for the insight. I'm not concerned about fit and finish. After all, it is a tractor. That's what they make grinders and ball peen hammers for!! And those big ole screw drivers that look like pry bars!! Mostly I'm concerned about plain old guts. Do they have the weight and the torque to do the work. My little B6000 will sit with all the tires spinning, but not much else happening when I'm trying to dig. If it's not loose, or in a pile it's pick and shovel time and I"m too old and WAY too lazy to do too much of that. My neighbor has a JD 4200 (25 HP, hydrostatic trans, loader +++) and has no complaints. I'm a penny pincher, but don't mind paying for the right piece of equipment the FIRST time, even if it costs more than I wanted to spend. I guess I'm looking for one less thing to complain about. That list is WAY to short. My property is mostly clay and some dirt. When it's wet/damp digging is a breeze. When it's dry it's like concrete. When I put in my leach field I had to rent a pneumatic spade to crack through the upper crust to get to mother earth, so I may be dreaming that a little tractor will work here at all, but I gotta try.

a 16 inch load e tire is going to out last any 15 inch out there<br>
I have been very satisfied with the Contintal suv/Lt<br>
lt235/75/15 at sams/walmart 70,000 pro rated also advailable in 16<br>
do not buy a "p"series tire, the P is 35 psi and the LT is 50 psi<br>
what you really need to pay attention to is the load range reguardless of rim size,<br>
a work truck should have nothing less than a "d"

I have a bx23 and a property the exact size of yours. I'm constantly amazed at what the bx23 will do. However, I'm always wishing I had a little more. If I were you I'd go with the B or L series for the weight only. The horse power of the BX23 is fine but I'm always spinning my wheels(turf tires don't help). Bx is a sweet tractor but lacks a little punch. Good luck and let us know what you decide on.

I used to work for a hydroseeding company in the Northern Virginia and Maryland area. It works great there. Here in South Alabama I never see it being done. I don't think our climate (and grass type) is good for this. I suspect that would be the case in your area too.

Murf,
I noticed you mentioned having to line up pins in the extendable arms you demoed.
I'm not familiar with that setup.
On my extendable arms I push a lever and the arms extend/pull out.When I hook up the implement I raise the 3 point and the arms slide in and lock. There are no pins to line up.The only pins I need to line up are the telescoping sway bars.

it doesn't even look close to spring here yet...and i've been itching to get those stupid houseplants outside to get hosed off (they're dusty critters). The surefire way to know its spring is when i go back to real work....and that hasn't happened yet so....no spring in northern illinois.

Working on them every day I know those engines are cold natured sobs. Regardless if it is 10 degrees or 100 degrees you will always have to preheat and they will always smoke a bit(or allot) till they warm. (they are still tier I engines)

grinder, just had a long conversation with a buddy of mine who owns a industrial general contracting company. His opinion is somewhere between the two of us. They have used insulation to delay frost penetration when they are against it on schedule to get foundations in the ground. Depending on the soil conditions, this delay tactic works reasonably well. With clean granular soils or engineered fills, they can delay frost penetration for a couple months.

The temperature of the ground roughly 6 feet down is about 50 degrees year round in these parts. If it doesn't get too cold too fast, the insualtion slows the escape of heat enough to delay frosty penetration, but wont stop it.

The larger the area you cover, the more effective it is. He doesn't believe a 4'x8' sheet of anything will be very effective. The more ground area you cover, the more effective the insualtion is for the center of the covered area. For a un-heated barn floor, his opinion is that if the floor area is large enough, it could delay the frost long enough at some center portion of the floor. Depending on the R-value of the insulation, it mat be able to keep the floor at the center of the barn from freezing over the course of the winter.

Since I had not considered the ambient teperature of the soil below the frost line, I will conceed the bet... partially...

I did some practice / work with backhoe Saturday. I've never used one before. May take some time to become proficient, but I think I can still get some useful work done. The thing has a lot of power. I would have to say that the machine in general is not limited by power. Traction and size maybe, but not power. For my purposes, it should be great. We'll see.

I can say with a very high degree of certainty that when you pop (and I do mean 'pop') a skunk in the back yard with a 12ga. (loaded with 3" # 4 turkey shells) from a second floor window, the smell WILL reach your wife downstairs in the kitchen before you can get the shotgun in and close the window.

Also, "But Honey, you said I should shoot the skunk!" does NOT take the wind out of her arguement.

Isn't that somewhere near Eagle and Vail? Back a few years ago I have a brand new '95 S-10 Blazer driving through on I-70. I had it floored and couldn't get it above 45 mph.<br>

After breaking the detent spring for the float position mine simply goes to float too easily which is a PITA. From earlier posts this is a common problem. The FEL can be jerky on the downswing if the lever is fluctuating between power down and float.

Another difference that I found between the 4410 and 3320 is the 4410 has a spur gear in the final drive while the 3320 has a helical final drive gear. I think the helical gear may be a little stronger. I agree the 300CX looks like a stronger loader but doesn't quite have the offset to reach inside your trailer when dumping your load. It is only a couple of inches shorter so it is not a big deal. I like turf tires and the turfs in front of the 3320 and 4410 are too small. They have 27 x 8.5 x 15 on the front. The 4510 thru 4710 and 4120 thru 4720 have 27 x 10.5 x15 turfs. I'm trying to find out if the rims are interchangable with comparible off-sets, etc. I have two John Deere dealers that want my business. They both say they will not be undersold. When I do my shopping and find out exactly what I want, it will be interesting!

When checking fluid filled tires you need a pressure guadge made for fluids. Your better tire shops with tractor tire repair can direct you where to buy locally.
