I moved horses onto my property last fall. This winter has been nothing but rain, so the ground is saturated. The horses winter sacrifice paddock is one big mudhole. <br>

I've heard of "drainage tile" being installed in muddy areas. How can I find out more how to do this?<br>

I also saw a way to drain wet planted fields using a machine that cut really deep grooves into the soil in lines about 15" apart (theory being it got the rainwater down into the soil faster). Could this be used for a horse area?<br>

The soil type here is rich-but-mucky topsoil over heavy clay. Sand should help drainage, right? If I added it, how deep should it be mixed in?<br>

It is really sad that these guys have so much power and don�t know how to use it wisely. Not all of them are idiots some do have sense. I work at a Collage where they get their certificate to operate a vehicle and carry a weapon. And you would be very surprised what graduates from these classes. Officers are in need so they pass them right on though the classes. The worst of it all is, they have three chances to pass to get their certificate, In my opinion that is BS because I only had one chance to pass my refrigeration journeymen license or I had to repeat the class over again and PAY FOR IT. But I did have a Sergeant tell me some time ago �you can�t wear a vest around your head� so you do have to be civil to who you pull over.

For a while I'll just use the gravel surface for a floor. I don't need the shop for a few years so will just use the building for storage till then. It would make sense to pour the concrete floor right away before it fills up with "stuff" that you have to remove so that you can pour later.

I think with the help of everybody, I have decided to go with the shuttle shift. I will be trading in my 2003 NH tc-30, for a TC 40, with a 16a loader, folding rops, r4 tires, 72" quick attach bucket and a deluxe 3 point.

I need to know how to maintain my JD 420U. I have the shop manual jd-201 but in fails to tell what maintaince should be done and how. What fluids and where? Is there separate fills for the final drive? Do the hydralics and the transmission mix? Whare are the fill and drain plugs? The engine maintaince in not a problem, it's the rest of the unit I need help with. I could fumble along but I sure could use some advice

While we're on this social - civil debate thing, one of my pet gripes is with these folks who make the claim that there's something sacred about the human life form and that humans are some how more entitled / deserving to an existence above all other life forms. Just think about this stupid claim for a while.<br>

Things could be made very simple if folks would just honor the simple rule, "if it doesn't belong to you don't screw with it". That's what I was taught when I was a kid. If you do screw with it there's consequences!<br>

The world population is about 7*10^9, the US is about 300*10^6, (if I remember correctly) --- I'm quite sure a drop in human population of several hundred million would make for better living conditions in general. Imagine a minimum of 10 acres between neighbors. There really are just too many rats in the cage. The crux of most social problems!<br>

Having said all that, a full out gun battle in down town NY probably wouldn't be that big a deal. Wouldn�t be enough life lost to decrease the world population substantially. <br>

I would also give the dealer a gentle chewing out for selling you such a piece of crap. How do they get away with it? Document all your problems and conversations and start hitting every tractor/RTV site you can find and let everyone know what a piece of crap the Kubota is and the total lack of support.

I'm 100% positive it is special glue (not really a cement which is a solvent a.k.a. "welding") for underground. Constant moisture on the outside of the pipe attacks the glue, and that it's under pressure (sprinkler system) doesn't help. Is your underground piping under pressure? If not then I wouldn't worry. I was working next to a plumbing supply house and they knew what I was working on so they gave me the heads-up. As I recall, the glue was green-colored probably for inspection purposes (the primer was clear), not clear like aboveground (purple color is also for inspection but it's for the primer). I use the term "glue" because the fittings weren't "welded" together becoming one material. I found that the pipe fittings were not made of the same, identical material (pipe has small airbubbles in it from the foaming process when it's extruded the fitting are molded and have no detectable air bubbles). I found this out when I mis-fitted some pipe to the existing fittings; I used a propane torch to CAREFULLY burn or melt the old pipe and the fitting was ok!--it didn't melt as fast. So the joint was "glued" together rather than "welded".

I agree with the psots about utility easements. I had one realtor try to sell me 170 acres of "prime building land"---we walked it and found that nearly 70 a. was easements. I spoke to the power company and they said that there was actually another parallel easement for future power lines that wasn't indicated on the land (we were looking at the area that had been cleared of trees). Also he said we couldn't build within the "tower fall lines" which is beyond the easement---250' each way. And EMF was a concern---in another part of the state where the power lines were somehwere around 14,000v and relatively close to ground a dump truck raising its bed got 4' from the lines and exploded! So EMF does have an effect if it can jump 4'.

Murf: You are right abou the tail wheel. I should have been specific. I tend to do a lot of hilly, not-level-land cutting. And I do a lot of brush cutting up to 3" where I might start a 2-3 feet off the ground and slowly drop the cutter down to mulch or chip the tree/brush. With the hydraulic top link I can back into and up (and down) embankments and tilt the cutter to the desired position without the front digging into the ground. But truth be told the hydraulic top link is also good for fine tuning the cutter even on level ground and especially when going from one implement to another as far jumping off the tractor to adjust the toplink when switching implements.

I done some e-mailing and searching for that store and its affiliates in Ill. I got a great response but not so great a deal as JD. DKVince, I had about the same price as you in your area. It was still $155 cheaper than I can get at my farm and fleet but it is not worth the 200mile one way drive. Now if I could get it around $1100 I would be gone tomarroo.
You got a great deal JD, one I fear that will not be around for many years again. Unless they made a mistake and charged you for a 48" tiller you should of bought out the store!!!! I know of 2 guys (incuding myself that would of gave you a $150 profit! LOL

Thanks for all the detail. This is very helpful. I'm so busy trying to hack my way through real jobs that I want to weld, that I've not spent enough time to learn how to do ir right. But I am going to take some time to really practice too. I know that I have a lot to learn about puddle control.

One thing I learned tonight is how it acts when the current is too low to draw a decent arc. Just couldn't do anthing but stick the rod over and over. Finally ran the amps up and got an arc.

The only rod I've used so far is 3/32" 6011 and 1/8" 7018. Both seem to work pretty well. I've not really done enough work to see a difference yet. I just need a lot more practice.

To tell you the truth, the good thing about welding is that it gives me an excuse to use the plasma cutter to cut out parts (grin)! Plasma cutting is fun!

I read a plasma cutter review article where the author bought a Hypertherm 600 just like mine, and said that by the end of the evening, he had about twice as many pieces of scrap steel at just about the same tonnage. Then he said something like "... must... use... power... for good!..." (grin). It's really true.

And you are correct, not everything on a Yanmar engine is Yanmar.<br>
Example the starter on my JD 850 is a Nippondenso. When it burned up JD want nearly $400 for a new starter.<br>
I had a local starter shop rebuild it with Nippondenso parts for around $100.<br>
I wonder if Barry is going to tell me that is some type of violation ?

I had a modular put in last year. A plumber did all the drain work in the basement. He did not hook up to all the pipe that was in the house when it was built at the factory. He capped two pipes in the basement that were connected to the vent. I don't think he knew where they went and he really didn't care. They eventually filled up with water from rain or condensation and started leaking through the joints on to the wall and floor. I had him come back and we figured out we didn't need those two pipes and cut them off from the vent, which solved the leaking problem. My point is, find out where the pipes go and if they are being used properly. Sometimes the factory and the plumber have different ways to do things.

I am looking at buying a loader for my 4410. I was planning on buying a 430 but I saw some pictures of a 4310 with the new 300x or 300cx loader on it. Does anyone have any insight as to the comparitive specs of these three loaders? I love the looks of the new style (even on the 4000 series) but want to compare before buying. I plan to keep the loader that I buy for many years to come...

AS a owen of a Nortrac 204C ,bought it new in May 2002 now I have over 175 hrs on it . I have had no real proublems with it ... I all so owen a John Deere 790 bought it new in Aug 2003 ... Nortrac is still working ..JD is in the shop...battery acid leak cover under warrenty ...can't beat that !!! ....Deere and nortract are both good tractor the Deere runs quiter and rides better and sure looks better but the Nortrac gets the job done just the same ....

Last thing, something is going to have to give with our situation soon. We both know what happens in Feb. and march and that steady climb continues thru may to a peak of sales. With what is going in the doors as of today for workers, either cnh will have to outsource most of the product we manufacture real fast (Including the GEARS! the ones that England is haveing a hard time competeing with us on not to mention they can't get repitition correct yet over there). The talks broke down for the second time in 3 weeks putting them off till the end of next week again. I think if they fall thru again next week the company will declaire we are at impass and will make a major move after that imediately. Me thinks by the end of this month will tell the tale if I get to move and build anouther house or if I will be back on the job. Of course this is just my guess and am wrong more than right especially since I have a bias to moving.

you may get a kick out of this. Yesterday at about 4:55am a new group of new hires were coming in to cross the lock out lines (after awhile you get to know every car since I am out there almost every morning between that time and 6:30am) This car was stopped 2 cars back waiting to get thru us and there were 4 gentle men in the car. One apparently did not like what he was hearing and flashes a few gang signs (LOL PUNK!) then he pulls out a camera phone and starts taking pictures of the guys outside the car! Can you imagine this! 30 men outside your car taht are locked out and this PUNK flahes signs at us and thinks he is going to intimidate us with a picture phone! The next thing you know there are 25 guys about to pull this punk and his buddies thru the window. The gaurds come running out and the police were on the other side of the street. Imediately they get his car onto company property and have a 10 minuit chat, with the punk. See, we were told by the police we can't have any cameras taking pictures of the scabs for fear of us intimidating. What do you think and where do you think this drug addict gang banger/NewHolland production worker on jail release was doing with those pics? One more thing, the FBI was in the plant last week Thur. I did not see them come out but inside sources says they hauled 2 workers from out of state out in cuffs. Great work force huh?

The 6000 series is new this year, but I'm sure its very similar to last years 7254 series (correct model # I think) with the CAT motor...It does have more power (PTO 17 vs 21hp) and improved hydrolics with a FEL plus a backhoe option...some pricing I found as well below

Thanks Dennis & kwschumm. After I saw what happened and thought about it I figured that it was a timing thing. I don't think that it is important to not be shown in the active user list as soon as you signout. I was just curious as to why I was still there because I just wanted to be sure that I was logged out.
