I had a thread leak one time I could not get stopped. I talked to a plumber on the job. He asked if I double doped it. I had no idea what he meant. He put teflon tape on the thread sealant. I have done that ever since and never had a problem.

My wife and i found about 7 acres of land in the country that we both love. Nice and level home site, beutiful mountain views, and the developer needs to sell some lots because he is going to be closing on a large farm next month, so he said "make me an offer'. <br>

BUT thru one corner of the land there runs a large electric overhead transfer lines. The developer gave this lot extra large frontage so you could build and not be under these lines (where we are thinking the house would go would be about 600 ft from the lines)..<br>

What are the dangers of living near (but not directly under) these lines? Or are there any dangers?<br>

The developer says when it rains/high humidity you can hear the lines hum at times.<br>

We have a price sheet for this that a realtor put out. The developer has an agreement that he can sell the lots directly to us, so there would be no commission. <br>

The developer said "make me an offer" - We are thinking we could atleast knock 6% of the listed price (the commission not being paid)...Any ideas on what would be a reasonable percent off to offer that would still be fair?<br>

I just got back from the World AG Expo in Tulare, CA. Wow, what a show....1600 exhibitors, 100,000 attendees.<br>

Anyway I saw my first Mahindra tractors, and I was especially impressed with the 3015HST. It used a 3-cyl Mitsubishi engine and it was turbocharged! It was the quietest CUT I have ever heard.<br>

Anyone know of other 25-45 hp CUTs that use turbos?

Yes a hydro will consume some of your drawbar hp. How much of the time will you be asking your tractor to give it's maximium drawbar hp? If most of the time then gear is for you, If seldom then a hydro likely won't be much less efficent. Personaly I like gears (12/12 Reversers) for shuttle loader work, but that's just my preference. Drive them both, buy what you like best. Best of luck. Frank.

Interesting story about the solenoid. It is nice to hear of a good vendor story. Who was the vendor? If it is the fuel cutoff solenoid, like on my JD 955, I do not know how oil can even get into it. My engine is the 3TN84RJ, which I am told is the same or similar to the Yanmar unit on the JD4300. Maybe the 4300 has another solenoid in the FI pump?

According to my JD sources, the 4300 has had lots of problems, perhaps attributable to the many different suppliers of parts on it. Yanmar is only one supplier for this tractor!

I will have the opportunity of acquiring several JD4300s in the future, so I am quite concerned with its reliability.

There is nothing better than a good dealer relationship!

I just picked up $9.00 worth of parts, the shop manager spent 30 mins with me going over my pre season service needs. I had a problem with a oil cooler last year while on a job, called the dealer and they asked if I could get the machine back on the traler. I did, took it to them and it was replaced under warranty while still on the trailer. I have been taken into the shop and shown a fitting that they thought that I might not be hitting enough with the grease gun.

I retired from 35 years as a construction superintendent, the company owned many mllions of dollars of equipment. The local Cat dealer would open the parts room any time day or night to keep us running.

I only own one piece of equipment, I know my dealer is there when I need him.

We fight the weather, the ground, people that don't pay, and all the other trials in life, what a blessing not to have to fight with my equipment dealer.

Well, first off, the horizontal run is buried under the insulation in the attic so there should be no ice. There is condensation/water in the pipes because that is what is leaking out and wrecking the ceiling drywall.

As for house movement, some sections have cracks in the walls and in winter, the bathroom counter top pulls away from wall at least 1/16" to 1/8". I had caulked it in fall when we repainted the bathroom. It has pulled the caulk off the wall.

The flange around the pipe in the roof is not a problem as there is no water evidence of it getting in there.

Finally, ice is not going to be the problem as the air temp has been consistently above freezing the last couple of weeks. I wish you guys could see some of the cheap-ass problems I have found since I bought the place. Frustrating, really.

I think I'm going to split the connection and run the other one up through the roof on it's own. But I'll check it out first to see where th fumes are coming in at. I'll let you know what I find. My wife has the camera for a baby shower so no photos.

I expect I will be tracking down openings this spring and summer. I have had a nice reduction in the mouse population though. So he wasn't all bad. I've gotten one major opening closed up.

Oh well... At least I have a carcass to show that it's dead.

No Dave, I think you misunderstood me.

My point was, there is no reason I can think of to use 'commercial' lumber, treated or not, to build your structure. Properly installed, plain wood will last every bit as long as anything else. To me PT lumber was just a reaction to poor construction methods that resulted in a lot of rotted wood.

We have built many buildings with wood cut from or own lands, they end up as good or better than those made from 'store bought' lumber.

If you're interested I could point you to people in your area who will either sell you enough rough cut lumber, or bring in a portable sawmill for you to have what you need cut from your own trees.

Thanks guys. Price wasn't really the problem, just availability. Hadn't considered the warranty issue. The nearest Kubota dealer has limited hours, so it's hard to catch someone there. I guess I'll just have to stock up on a few Kubota filters next time I see them open.

Some models have rear hydraulic blocks. The deluxe and premium series Kubota B's ( 2410, 2710, 2910, 2630, and the 3030)have rear blocks. The economy models do not. I would gues economy means cheaper. I have the 7800 and still added rear remotes. It only requires a little more hose.

I'm not sure which L and M series have both blocks.

We use ceramic backing material for complete penetration welds when the backer bars can't be left in place. Ceramic works well and provides a solid backer surface without inclusions in the weld. Never used alluminum, but don't believe it would be a good backer material. Keep your arc length short. Increasing the arc length will cause excessive spatter and inconsistant weld profiles. If you are having blow thru, you need to go to a smaller rod and lower the current.

There are two rings on the dipstick. The fluid level is supposed to be between the two rings. Overfilled fluids is not a good idea as it could retrict the return flow of fluid from the system. Pick the most convenient plug ( see your manual) and drain some fluid a little at a time.

Earthworks, how does a hydraulic toplink do anything for adjusting the height of the cutter?

The height is adjusted by raising or lowering the tailwheel and lift arms.

If you lengthen or shorten the toplink all you do is change the angle of the cutter relative to the ground. This doesn't accomplish much since the cutter is designed to run with the front edge just slightly lower than the back.

It also wouldn't help prevent damage if the back wheels went down into a depression such as a ditch and the cutter was being overloaded.

I can't help you with your question about engine compatibility, but if I may make a recommendation... an alternate idea would be to rebuild the original engine. You said you think you will need to replace the engine "soon". To me, that says you don't have a catastrophic failure, it might just be worn out. Diesel engines are very simple. It's common to rebuild a long-service diesel several times during its life. A tractor with a rebuilt original engine will be worth more in resale than a tractor with a frankenstein drivetrain.
