Grinder! We have had notices to NOT use straight K as it has no lubricating qualities for the injection pumps and some injection pumps only use the fuel for lubrication! If it was for a very short run only in urgent need to run would I recommend K straight.

Quite a little tractor and it sounds like a good deal for what you are getting! They had hydro shaft drive with a manual lift and no power steering. They were quite boxy looking compared to todays but they were quite stylish in there day. Units were well built with a three cylinder diesel engine. There were other accessories available also like a snow blower and bagging systems. It would be interesting to know why the deck needs welding with the low hours. Normal use is abot 50 hours a year and even at that rate it should have not rotted out and it should have more hours on it for an average if you figure it could be near 20 years old. My wife loved it when I brought one home for her to use.

Just a couple more pins and the gears will be free of the shaft I believe but could and probably should look at the parts break down. They may be permenantly attached but I doubt it. We haven't seen the problem yet so it's not wide spread but easy to see it happen.

My dealer gave me the CD of the 4000 Ten series service and parts manuals when I bought my 4310. He said Deere issues him a new revision every month, the one he gave me was from March 2004. If you buy from a small volume dealer he may be able to throw it in as part of the deal. It has been very helpful to have around.

Iowafun, your wife having control over your life when you are incapacitated can be a good thing or a bad thing. My wife scares me when she talks about life not worth living when you're bed ridden. Since she has a Smith and Wesson I had better make sure she gets the right bullets that will take me out real quick!! :)

Murf, your wedding plans sound great! My wife is hinting that she wants to renew vows on our 25th - about 1 year from now. I am not the sentimental type and don't like the idea of this - but maybe we will go back to St Croix where we went for our honeymoon and do it there. I like the idea of warm weather to ease the pain. I just don't like to fly.

I see you live in Texas. If you don't have real steep hills to navigate while going from one property to another, IMHO you'll be fine with a simple, tongue trailer with some ramps that can be attached to the back for easy load and unload. This trailer typically sells new for about $700.00 in my area. Ramps may add a bit to this price.

It goes against every thing I stand for but for that tractor the Bush Hog is better. Higher break out and lifting. But I HATE!! Bush Hog.

I believe Honda was in the U.S. tractor market from the mid to late 80's to around 1996. They decided to not sell tractors in the U.S. any longer. I've heard rumors that liability was the biggest factor (probably still hurting after the whole 3 wheeler ATC lawsuits back in the 80's). I'm sure Honda didn't make the diesel engine but cannot find out who made it. The tractors are really nice, lots of power and reliable as heck.

My BX slowed down.... maybe 1 or 2 mph in high gear.... when I took the Super UDT out.

My RTV speeded up when I put Super UDT in.

Well, let's make it simple then. On JD 45xx tractors, fuse panel position F6 is already designated for a 20A "work light". Install from there.

I took my wife with me to look at new welders and she wasn't the least impressed, in fact had I bought a new one the cost would have been pretty high. Divorce Lawyer, all my savings (not much just sounded good) plus house Barn, but I'll be Da**-+ if she will get the Tractor. I'll probably buy a used one and tell her it cost $55.00 she thinks even that is high!

The marketing for anti-bacterial products has been a phenominal success. It also keeps your immune system in poorer shape since it isn't getting a work out. I can see anti-bacterial stuff for your kids after they touched a cow pie or sat on a bird turd covered bench. But that's about it. Your immune system is a living system and requires exposure to germs to keep it strong and healthy. There are many, many studies that prove this out.

I don't keep anti-bacterial soap in the house because I'm on a septic system and I don't want that stuff affecting the bacteria in the main tank.

At least now you will know about the diverter valve the next time you hook/unhook the backhoe.

On a warm day like what you had, to have the valve stem on the bottom and to remove the core you would be able to drain the bulk of it out just add some air so you could regain some ride but you might have some clunking from the ice when you use it later.
