If you get some 4" C-channel to patch across the mended section it will make it a LOT stronger.

The advantage is if the repair is square tube you can put the channel's 'back' flat against the tube and get a good long patch to take some of the stress off the tube. If it's round tube, just weld it on open side to the curved wall, this makes a guaranteed fit and will still be just as strong, although you will need to make multiple lighter passes this way since you will be welding the thin edge of the web to the tube.

A foot of channel will add a LOT of strength.

Murf, excellent reply, which I agree with.

A couple of additional points, some areas permit PVC water supply lines from the house to the main, thereby reducing or in effect eliminating the benefit of the ground to the water line connection.

The terms stray voltage and ground potential rise both refer to current flow in the neutral/earth ground system. The purpose of the bonding is to prevent a difference of potential, which can also be called step potential (touch potential). This is defined as the potential difference between two points on the earth. If this voltage (potential difference) is large enough it can kill.

If anyone is interested there is an excellent book called "Ground Currents and Stray voltage" written by O.C. Seevers. Published by the Fairmount Press in 1989. Mr Seevers was a long time engineer with Kentucky Utilities in Lexington, Kentucky.

An additional reference source is the IEEE green book.

I use a log skidding choker cable hooked up to my 4410's draw bar and pull trees like this out by the roots while the ground is soft this time of year. In fact I pulled a 3 inch diameter black walnut tree out this way last year and was able to transplant it to another location. It had sprung up too close to the house and was rubbing on the rain gutters. The tree made through this summer and is doing fine. I was surprised at how easy the tree pulled up.

I was talking to the fellas at the feed mill in town yesterday and asked how they handle the problem of mice, rats, and the snakes that inevitably follow.

I must admit, their solution is rather clever.

They took an 18" length of 2" PVC pipe and drilled two small holes about 4" from one end, through these holes was run a small piece of wire to form a loop inside the pipe. A standard Victor mouse trap mechanism (after removing it from the wood base) is then mounted with 2 part epoxy over the 2 holes such that when the trap is set, the bail is directly over the holes, with the bail pointing towards the far end of the pipe and the trigger towards the near end, the wire loop is fixed to the bail with the length adjusted so that when the trap is set off the loop has no slack at all. When the trap is ready the wire forms an open snare in the pipe. They solder a piece of wire to the trigger that dangles straight down through a larger hole drilled directly beneath it. They then put a T-fitting on the end with the trap, the kind which is meant to connect the 2" into a drain pipe. One end of the large pipe is capped, the other gets a screw-type cleanout cap. When they catch a mouse they unscrew the cap and put it in the large pipe end and replace the cap. The whole affair is laid against a wall in an area where they know there are likely to be snakes.

It is apparently a "lady friendly" sure-fire method of getting snakes. The snake smells the mouse, and possibly hears him struggling if it's still alive and enters the 2" pipe, just after it's head passes through the snare loop it bumps the wire connected to the trigger, the trap goes off pulling the snare tight around it's neck just behind it's jaw.

By snaring them this way there is absolutely no chance of them wriggling free since they cant coil up and roll around to knock the trap off themselves, they are trapped until someone relelases them. A quick glance at the trap indicates whether it is still set or not also.

The best part, absolutely no handling required, snake-sicle or otherwise. Really cheap too.

They told me they got the idea from a guy in the US praries who uses a similar idea, put he epoxys wire mesh over the inside of the 2" opening in the larger pipe and uses a live mouse as bait, they thought they would re-cycle instead.

beagle, maybe I'm misunderstanding you. Are you talking about the normal top link for the 3PT, and the bracket on the tractor that the adjustable top link attaches to? I'm trying to figure out exactly what's missing from the BH you're looking at.

You will love your BX1500! I certainly do mine. It's perfect for the tasks you decribed.

The 1500 is plenty for your needs. The major differences between the 1500 and the 1830/2230 are:
1. 3-cylinder engines
2. more horsepower/torque
3. 2.3" longer wheelbase (to accomodate the 3-cyl engines)
4. slightly bigger tires
5. ~1" higher ground clearance (due to bigger tires)
6. 60"MMM offered (54" for the 1500)
7. Cruise control
8. Fuel gauge
9. 1.5 gal additional fuel tank capacity

There may be some other differences. Art?

A few things to consider:
1. The 1830 has an older engine design while the 1500 and 2230 have newer model engines. Not necessarily a bad thing. Just another difference between models.
2. The 2230 has about 1-1/2 times more PTO hp than the 1500, but the 1500's smaller tires put a higher percentage of engine power to the ground due to a shorter moment arm. This effectively reduces the power deficit somewhat.
3. There is no appreciable difference in weight between the 1500/1830/2230 models, so the amount of work each can do will be limited to traction vs. engine power in many cases.

IMHO the 2230 (along with similar models from other manufacturers) is overpowered for it's physical size and weight. Other's will differ in opinion. Don't get me wrong, I love horsepower as much as the next guy! It's a VERY capable machine, but it'll make you think that it can do more than it was really designed to do. I have never run out of power with my 1500. It'll mow tall wet grass, push heavy snow uphill, and tow a loaded trailer with ease. I'd say save $1000 and go with the 1500, or step up to a B-series machine if you want more umph.

I owned 2 same tractors 1Drago 125 hp and a Solar 60 hp they are excellent tractors ran the drago in 98 deg. temp very hard checd the engine temp with heat gun highest temp on engine was140 saw many same's in AZ when I was there.

LOL...i hear ya, but I dont even plow my own driveway. By the time I get done working from the storm, I've had about 25 hours of plow time in & I dont want to do anymore. It takes at least 8" of snow to get me to clear my own stuff.

pszikszai, if you haven't done so already; I would also suggest that you jack up the rear end of the tractor so that at least one tire can spin freely and allow the differential lock to engage properly and freely should you get the linkage to work. Even on a properly functioning differential lock it is nearly impossible to get it to engage and actuate properly unless one tire is spinning. I usually have to try mine a few times while one tire moves slowly.

Good solid outfit for the money. It is the lowest horsepower in that chassis but it should have plenty. I don't remember a 50" deck for those but either one of those available worked good and are extremely well built.

Good advice and I will take it. Sometimes it takes a very hard slap to to see the forrest trhu the tree's. I have to do a fluid change along with all the filters anyway.
Might as well make it a yearly thing till I move there. Hopefully it will only be this year and I move the hell out of hell!

has anybody used or have any knowledge of the lorenze blowers. ran across there web site www.lorenzmfg .com and found out they make double auger blowers for smaller hp tractors like 84 in wide with two augers rated 40 hp . also all of there rear blowers can mount on front of the tractor with a kit that runs the blower off of the rear pto. these kits fit different makes and models of tractors .anybody know if these blowers are any good thanks
