I am embarrassed to keep on asking so many questions about this problem.
Yes, I devised a brass punch for my air gun and gently tried to hammer it with that without pushing to hard. I will soak it and hammer it from time to time to see if it will do something. I do not want to actualy move the shaft as the pictures in the shop manual show that it has woodruff key that might fall out. The shaft also is embeded
at the back side where the freeze pug is and it might be stuck there also? Then if I manage to loosen the shaft then I will still have the problem of how to put the pedal back
since there is not enough room between the end of the shaft and the body of the tractor to slide on. These are the problems and this is why I am looking for suggestions from all of you, the experienced with JD tractors.
Art tought that JD service might ask a four figure amount to fix this. I don't think I want to go there.

I've got these little brush trees that grow like weeds. I started knocking them down & uprooting w/my bx2200 fel. These things can get big. Some are 4" diameter. It's such a feeling of victory!! I almost gave myself a heart attack last summer before the 2200 chain sawing and using pruners. The tractor makes it so easy--and FUN! First I push them about 2-3 feet above ground level, them dig under. Keep repeating till the tree gives up the ghost. This 2200 is a strong little tractor. Dont try it without weight on back though.

I had the biggest Craftsman mower they made at the time, a 22.5 horse. Mowed my 3 acres fairly fast, but as I got older I'd walk at a 90 degree angle for a while after finishing. It just beat my back to death.My wife finally took pity & let me get a used bx2200 w/fel, bb, rfm, and rotary mower (7 acres pasture). NO COMPARISON! Plenty of power, does so much for me! You'll love your 1500!

MacDaddy,

The loader joystick will control the up/down of the blower, and the side to side motion will turn the chute. There is a full forward float detent that works OK on gravel if frozen, fantastically on paved drives. I use a single stage, recommended by my dealer who also made up a wider pair of shoes by welding extra metal on it. I did see a post somewhere though, where someone had replaced the shoes with wheels and was intrigued by it. If I hadn't paved my drive, I would be trying this.

I have a 1995 polaris. I beat the snot out of it. It's a 4x4 2 stoke 300cc. It rides like a dream, has hig and low, selectable 4x4 and is a nice quad. I had suzuki's, honda's and yamaha's. I actually had a 200 yamaha big bear and bough this and sold the big bear. The only gripe I have with it is the starter is a hunk of garbage. When it is below freezing the machine won't start. It clicks. I have to throw the propane heater on it for a while then whack the starter and it fires up and is good for the day. I haven't pulled it apart yet but there is water in there I'm sure from deep water crossings. I know the starters on these are the weak link. It also says on my machine "designed for warm weather use" Go figure polaris and warm?

It's been a good quad. Starter and one of the front struts has a minor leak, other than that I'd buy another one based on the nice tranny, great brakes and smooth but sporty ride.

My 200 big bear ate up cv joints quick. my 1998 timbrewolf did too. The suzuki is a good choice too. The hondas are great but check the specs, very low ground clearance on some of them.,,,good luck...buy american...Jim

Thanks...I was just floating around and saw there is more life out there other than the Kubota section. I read some great posts about this stuff. I will go with 3 ozs for the 5 gallons. It's been COLD out here and I figure anything can help. Looks like most guys are 2-3 ozs for a 5 gallon jug.

Steve4300, I have been sitting here wondering why Canada would put an extra transformer on the neutral line so that a mistaken backfeed could be stepped up to make an even bigger problem. If our utility companies start putting transformers on neutrals that carry no current, I will know they are charging too much for electricity.
I am also still wondering how a properly installed transfer switch balances a load that an unsafe hookup fails to do. No breakers changed position at my house. Electrically speaking, isn't feeding both poles at the top of the panel the same as feeding both poles anywhere along them? Just like placing a breaker at the top will result in the same usable power as placing it at the bottom.

My 2002 was acting up not quite as bad but it was kicking in when it shouldnt have. I pulled the fronts off at 75,000 and they were about 50%! I couldn't believe it, lot of towing in there and 50% on the factory brakes at 75k. I went about another 500 miles and said the heck with it I'm doing the brakes anyway. I bough new ceramic brakes. When I pulled the rears off they were about 5%. I just caught them. The rears were far gone as compared to the fronts. this was a first for me. I changed the brakes and after around 1500 miles they finally broke in and I haven't had any problems.

The antilocks DO work when you are in 4X4 on my truck. I have electronic 4x4 on mine with the awd button and pure 4x4. it works in both.

If you didn't check the rears they may be part of the problem.

As yooperpete stated the 5103 is a large frame machine and will do a fair job with the loader. I use the loader on my 5205 in two wheel drive sometimes works great if the ground is not to wet. If it's wet at all it will spin a bit and start digging holes quick, I have the option to engadge mine to four wheel on my model. I think I would probley go with putting it on the New Holland as loaders are much better suited with four wheel drive.

In that vintage of tractors for the most part that was as good as it gets unless you got a hydro. Higher end small tractors had two stage clutches and some fully independent pto but none out of the asian countries.

You guys are too funny! You think your a hard ass in the house? Try living in mine! I was raised not to embarress my dad (he was a narcotics detective) or my family> Got the dung kicked out of me a few times and realized who the boss was and what I should and should not do. Flash forward 10 years and I start having kids. About the time they started to walk I have been "programming them" I know where they are and who they are with all the time. My son is about to turn 18. Have NEVER had a problem with him. Just recently he got a girl friend and has not called a few times. Apparently must think he dont have to? All it took was talking to him and he has not forgot to call since. I like to think that comes from his up bringing? Oh yeah, he is country all the way, along with his 2 friends. (chip off the ole block, never cared what was thought of me either by my peers) Now my middle child, (a daughter) is an angel, responsible, (same as my son, staright "A"s. Knows just about every country singer that comes on the radio. I dont allow wide pants in my house nor do I allow just about anything that you or I would not of been allowed to wear. (I am 40). My yongest,,,,She is anouther story, been fighting her for the last 3 years. She is 14 now. I have to fight her aunt, her friends, my mom and sometimes my wife. Seems the rules that I had for the other kids are getting bent for this one. I dont like it at all! She is starting to walk down the wrong path. I tend to nip this in the bud before it gets too far out of controll. Although rap is still not what she listens to the more HIP clothing is starting to filter in my house. This is going to stop fast! Same parents for the most part same way we raised all 3 kids thru their non_teen years. 2 kids are heading off to college and a career while 1 kid may end up chained to the basement pole. Thing that worry's me is she may like being around that pole and decide to make a carreer of it!
I do have my scape goat with her. MOVING!!!!. I can tell you this, I would not want to be any older than I am and try to do this. I am still young enough to see what she is trying to get away with and still young enough to do something about it!

Oh yeah one last thing, want to have some fun? I do this once a week or so. Pull you underwhere over your pants, turn the hat on sideways and walk around shaking your hands saying yo yo yo. My kids think I am a idiot and tell me that. I turn around and tell them, well? what do you think you would look like doing that?

Well I talked to my dealer today. he called me up just to say hi and asked me if I had any questions after our e-mail conversations. Cool huh? Good salesman ands a nice guy. I talked at length with him about the 185b. From everything he told me about it (he matches your opinion) its a must buy. He told me if you thought any of the other skidsteers you have ever operated was smooth you have to operate this one! He want on to say that the 185 is just an all around awesome machine that he believes is far above anything in its class and also above larger ones.
Only draw back he see's for me is hauling it around. Said If I am only doing 25 +/- mile drives it would be no problem but if I am planning on doing any long hauls I should have a larger truck. (I agree).
Anyway, he had told me that he was amazed at the smooth operation along with the power it has. 2 thumbs up. So he sold me on it. The prices he gave me were standard prices for any street customer and when (IF)I get back to work he will be able to qoute me the discount price. Said he can't give out that info direct order from above!
So it looks like I will be getting the 185 when I buy it.
