No the neutral leg is bonded to the ground here also.

However, as I'm sure you are painfully aware, electricity takes the path of least resistance. If there is a bach-feed situation there is a 220 V. potential on the neutral out to the transformer which will, as mentioned, step it up to line voltage.

If an unsuspecting linesman becomes the conductor to complete the circuit he gets a big poke.

Thats why the neutral MUST be disconnected here to prevent potential back-feeding of the grid.

Ah-ha, maybe we just found the source of your confusion.

You don't USE the power steering while the machine is sitting still doing B/H work, but the fluid flowing out of a single pump gets split by a priority dividing valve long before it can get to the remotes or B/H.

This splitter valve has no idea of the load on each leg of the system, and doesn't care either, it merely divides the flow into two paths and sends it on it's seperate ways.

So, regardless of whether it is being used or not the system sends a certain portion of the flow to the power steering system, if it is not needed it merely cycles back into the reservoir.

Also, as Art alluded to, actual flow is considerably different from the 'spec.'s' which are often either a hypothetical number, or derived from a bench test. That is why they often describe them as "pump capacity" instead of describing what comes out of the remote. All those hoses, pipes, valves, and most particularly, quick disconnect fittings, rob flow along the way.

I found this out the hard way with the hyd. sanders we run, they require about 16 litres per minute, about half the "rated" flow of 35 litres per minute we should have available, but they barely worked. When we removed the quick disconnects and plumbed them in directly they worked just fine.

The under the battery and the radiator & trans. oil cooler for corrosion. I would carefully check the wheel lugs. Check the pins and bushings in the hoe and FEL. Aside from that, the normal wear and tear area's that would apply to any piece of equipment.

What shoould I be looking for on a 4410 new buy

Thanks for all the helpful comments and advice. I didn't have the cash to proceed yet anyway. Now that it's looking possible, I'm leaning toward a Kioti CK20HST. Seems like it'll do what I want with a lot less surface damage than any skid loader. Now if I can only raise the money before steel surcharges go up again and the dollar drops further!

I have owned a kubota 3710 tlb for a number of years now and the three point hitch hoe is quite tough on the toplink mount. I've redrilled the bolt holes and taped the sizes larger for the bolts. I also welded tabs on each side of the mount area at the top to take some of the stress off the bolts. MY OPINION?? if you can afford the frame mount unit, by all means, buy that model. Also, I personally don't think the pto mounted pump for this hoe is any near as powerfull as the internal system that you'll get with the frame mount. May I add, that it seems that the steel used in this unit is VERY soft and doesn't stand up to what's needed for the usage. Hope this helps Larry

Unrelated, but some 411 for others. Years ago when I was real young(LOL, ok just younger) I changed oil on my truck and when I started it up I had about 2 quarts of oil on the ground before I realized it. The oil filter has a rubber gasket. The filter I removed from the truck had its gasket frozen to the truck and I did not realize when I removed it. When I installed the new filter I wound up havving 2 gaskets on the truck. Did not seal (of course)
Just something for others here to keep in mid, always check to make sure the filter you remove has the gasket on it. Its real easy not to check when your laying on your back in -17 degree weather.

The way that the front pto is splined you can misalign the U joint caps. I had mine misaligned and you could feel the vibration coming up through the floor. when I phased them correctly the vibration went away.

I bought my compact tractor about three and a half months ago, and had much the same question in my mind since I knew nothing about tractors. I just went to four different dealers nearby (and not so nearby) to get some hands-on time with different models. I looked at New Holland, Kubota and John Deere. I had a good feeling right away from the nearby John Deere dealer, and really liked the 4310. However, the larger (but further-away) Kubota dealer had a better price by a $1000 for a comparable model with similar implements. When I telephoned the JD dealer and told him this fact, he dropped his price by twelve hundred. I signed the papers later that day and have never regretted it.

Drive them and get a feel for their differences to see what feels right to you, and definitely go with the dealer that feels right. Good Luck!

The BX has a steel pan so a magnetic heater will work wonders.

Back to some basics...

Are you holding the glow plug light on long enough or too long? The preheat function , according to the manual on my lap right now, says hold the key in the preheat position for 2-3 seconds over 32f, 32-23F 5 seconds and 23-5F 10 seconds.

I guess Kubota is telling us under 5 it's tougher!

I have a bx2200 and it was -2F the other day. It took a few shots at it but it started. The book instructs you to get the optional heater for starts below 5F.

When you try to start it follow the preheat steps and then wait a few seconds and do it again. It used to take me several attempts to start my machine then I got a magnetic block heater which made it like night and day. Before the heater, I almost had to hold the key in the start position a little lonmger than I would want to to keep it running. If it's "poping" and shutting off it's not a fuel problem, it's just cold. Follow the process a few more times and eventually it will start. Once it does, about 1/4 throttle and don't move it for at least 15 minutes.

We finally decided to plug in out fleet for freightliners at work- they start like it's a 70 degree day with the heaters. That's what sold me on spending a couple days lunch$$ on a magnetic heater. The bx2200 has a steel pan and I'm pretty sure the 1800 does too.

Both of you go to the head of the class! I worked for anouther company that told its dealers, its our product and no others. They lost over 75% of their dealers. So you say,"Hey, thats not the American way?" Your right, they were a forign company that bought us out. They wern't American. Sounds familiar?

You may be closer than you think. When I bought my tractor I recieved the EPP Employee purchase program price.
With out getting into details its a set price relative to what the dealer pays for it minus any dealer perks.
Depending on how much your dealer charges for prep and any options you have installed by the dealer the price may vary. I had many many qoutes and the price ranged from 18K all the way up to $21,400. A major advertiser here had the same price on the tractor (BASE PRICE) with out the discount. SO anyone could get the tractor for price I paid. (Excluding whatever they would of charged for the extra's) What I am getting at (and I am no expert either, with no facts, except for what I just told you) is that you probably are right on the volume thing. Suppose the smaller dealers were not to happy about seeing this on e-bay either. Now I could be way off here, but last time I checked we were in America, the way it has been for a while now is that we ALL pay more at the smaller mom and pop stores but usually we get better service hence, we keep comming back and dont mid paying a bit more IE:like keeping our money in america instead of china?

Well, I picked this unit up today. I have even managed to scrounge a schematic for it, but I don't have a parts list. If I have to replace components, I'll have to read the part numbers off of the parts themselves.

Actually looks to be in real good condition, just a little dirty. Looking at the schematic, it looks like the it might be the bridge recitifier diodes that were charred. The good news there is replacing rectifiers is pretty trivial. Might have been connected to the wrong input voltage.

At the same time, I picked up a Miller Thunderbolt AC/DC stick welder. Must be about ten years old, but looks brand new, almost unused. The shop tested it and said it worked perfectly.

I've got a welder, and may soon have a cutter! (big grin)

I thought I already posted this, but maybe it is on the wrong thread somewhere.

It occured to me that when my tractor was delivered, the dealer handed me an extra fuse and said that there is a fuse in the stater system that has a tendency to pop. He said if the tractor didn't start, check the fuse. Unfortunately, I don't remeber where he told me it was, but I don't remember it being in the fuse holder. You may want to chase down the starter harness and see if there isn't an in-line fuse somewhere.

Sorry I can't remember where he said it was. I may take a walk out to the barn and have a peek at the fuse he gave me. I'll let you know.

The trailer saved an enormous amount of time and wear and tear on the tractor. I was traveling about 600 feet with the tracor, so the time it was taking to carry the fill a bucket at a time was killing us.

I had help from the wife, so yes, we would unhook the trailer, fill it with about two yards of fill, and hook it back up to the tractor. Haul it where we needed it and dump. The only tough part was hooking and un-hooking the hydraulic lines for the dump. Each load in the trailer was about 6 or 7 buckets. Doesn't take long to start saving some serious time and wear on the tractor.

We really like the set-up, and have a couple hundred more yards we will do with it in the spring. With someone there to tend the trailer, it moves fast. She is willing to stay out there and help so I won't bug her that we need two tractors.
