I just purchased a Kubota L225 (730 hours, serial #13227) with an Allied 250 front loader and a new 6' Woods rear grading blade. I plan on using this tractor for maintaining my 800 ft gravel driveway. The purchase price was $5,300.00I have no prior experience with tractors and was hoping someone could help me with a few questions I have: Did I get ripped off or was the price fair?<br> What year was this tractor made?<br> How many of these tractors are around?<br> Are these decent tractors as far as durability and performance is<br> concerned?<br>

I have a shibaura tractor with 22" rear rims and am considering adding weight in the form of liquid ballast and/or cast weights. Can I purchase cast wheel weights for this rim? The rim has 4 square holes for this purpose but I do not know if there is standard bolt diameter for cast weights. Please advise.

After being in the equip. business for about 15 years, and having sold 100's of used 55 series JD compacts, I just attribute it to JD trying to get a tighter turning radius. I have not had one yet w/evenly worn front tires. Jim

Kioti has been in the US since the mid-late 80's although they've had some distribution problems, they are generally on par w/ the japs. I have bought and sold numerous used ones. I have 7 of my good customers who have been sucessful as dealers here in new england. The older models drive line is made mostly from
old Kubota tooling. and rumor has it they are supplying some replacement parts for older machines to Kubota. As of October 1, Kioti has severed ties w/LELY,
their most recent distributor and gone direct to their dealers making for a price advantage.

Ever notice that most "store brand" L&G tractors usally have the letters "LT" in their model name? I think it stands for "lawn trash", Definately not "long term" as in reliability

Hay, You are right about the 70 series. I recently moved 2500 miles across country. My wife tried to talk me into selling my 870 and buying a new tractor after the move. Since I wanted to stay green the only choice for a new one was the JD 4300 to replace my 870. I said forget it. She said --- we are NOT hauling that thing 2500 miles. Well I ended up hauling it 2500 miles to my new home since I was afraid I would never find another 870 to replace it---Glad I did now. Yes, the ultimate tractor would be a 70's series with a reliable hydro. But thats not going to happen. So for probably my lifetime I will stick to my trusty 870. regards Mike t.

I got a great 57" tiller from central tractor for under $1000. They were out of the normaly stocked one and had Howse units in to fill in. It works great. I have been tilling everything. My wife blew the wistle on me so I think I must let the dust settle before I grow the gardens any more.

I would not spend one cent more on a JD or other brand for my needs.

It sounds to me like a fair price, as long as it's in very good conditon.
This summer I purchased a "96 JD755 with 404 hours, 4 wd, loader, turf tires, 3 point hitch, an roll bar. It cost me 12,400.00 It is in excellent condition.
you didnt state the year model it is but the hours are pretty close.
Its a great machine. I love the hydro trans.. The fact that the one you are looking at is 4wd, to me makes it much more valuable. You will need the 4 wd if you plan on doing things other than mowing grass.

Franks, sound like a good deal. Thats about the same package deal that came with my 870. About the same price I paid but my 870 had less hours. Yes, if you compare the 70's series with the 4000 you will find the 70's are more stout and commercial-like. Just the other day I was at my 870 trans. housing on the left of the pto and noticed "1070" stamped on the housing. They must have put the 1070 trans in the 870?? Anyway its a proven design but lacks the fancy hydro on the 4000. My neighbor bought a new 4300 and sat in the shop on and off all Summer while my trusty 870 was out doing chores. 95% of my work is bushhogging thus I use only ONE gear all day, elimating the need for a hydro.

I'm looking at a L3350 HST 4wd w/2400 hours. It's got a loader and a Bradco hoe. Decent shape for the hours. Don't know the year. Can anyone give me a price range that I could expect for a machine like this? Thanks.

Which hoe are you using? JD Model 7? I'm shopping for a hoe for a JD855. I'm curious what the symptoms of not enough PSI are? I noticed that the specs on the Model 7 show that it doesn't have a lot of digging force compared to others like the Woods 7500. Is it possible that your hoe is running out of steam before you run out of PSI?

What are the other tractors in competition with the 1250? They must be pretty special. I agree with Don that the price is very good and the 1250 is a nice machine. It is a little larger than most of the compacts. I'd say that it just makes it into the smallest of the utility farm tractor size.

The gear range transmission in the compacts is not syncronized. This is why NH manual tells you to use the clutch (and yes it is a regular clutch) when changing ranges. The gear trans is behind the hydrostat unit which is why it is posible to shift gear ranges when not moving without using the clutch. Sometimes the gear dogs may not be aligned which is why touching the hydro pedal is sometimes needed to get them lined up to shift into gear. I've work for a NH dealer in Southern IL and I have had a few of the older compacts tore down. Generally this hard to shift thing is just the way ther're made.

peter- I just jumped to the curtis web page and they indicate that a quick attachment is available. I'm curious as to what it is and how much lenght it adds to the plow and if it is really worth a few minutes saved. Their web site is www.curtiscab.com.
