tom, iof you sell the plasma, let me know. I've been looking to replace my torches with a plasma outfit. The tips for a plasma can get expensive too. If you don't have good dry air, you will eat through the consumables like crazy. Make sure you have a good water separator on your air.

I would recommend a circle template over a compass arm. There is a circle cutting attachment for your torch head, they run about $250, take considerable practice, but work really well. A circle template on the other hand works well because it gives a nice surface to rest the torch tip against as you cut, and helps steady the tip. It takes less practice to get good at this method than with a compass arm.

Another option is a band saw. My saw can be used in the vertical position, and does a nice clean job of cutting arcs if they aren't too tight. You would need to cut the plate into manageable pieces, then cut the circles in the vertical position. Circles can be cut on the band saw similar to a circle cutting set up on a wood saw. Drill a hole in the center of the blank, and rotate the piece on a jig with a pin the proper distance (radius) of the circle.

I paid $750 for my band saw.

HEY MURF..THANKS FOR TIP ON THE PIPE LIP FOR MY FEL. WORKS OUT GREAT! BY THE WAY, JUST WENT PREMIUM TO PICK EVERYONE'S BRAINS. There were people in my area who took stumps for free and then ground them up into chips. But the towns got after them because the neighbors were complaining about the noise and zoning laws came into play. So I hauled a bunch of stumps for $20/load on a 5x8 utility trailer to a local family business that would take them. No municipal dump would take them even though they don't allow burning in my town. The fellow took 4 loads from me for $60 (one load for free). I was just glad to finally get rid of them.

Art, I'm looking to hook up a "top and tilt" for my box blade in addition to my other implements with hydraulics that the L35 can handle. I understood I couldn't run the 3 point and backhoe hydraulic ports on the L35 at the same time--would have to keep switching back a forth. Thanks/

Murf, I'll give you the weight of the fuel. I used the six pounds per gallon we used to use for calculating avgas. I suppose I could have looked up the correct weight.

You're right, the weight is a function of the volume, but the x-sectional area of the tube drops out of the calculation so total weight is not needed in the estimate. It takes no more pressure to push fuel up in a 3" diamater hose than a one inch diameter hose. With a larger hose the cross sectional area increases the same for the fuel pushing down as the pressurized fuel pushing up.

I agree about the full barrel, half-full barrel. I was trying to keep it simple.

I still say it doesn't matter whether the hose is straight up and down or at an angle. You get the same force down vector at any specific height. It's well known that height, not volume is what determines force at the bottom of a tube when gravity is the force producer. You can have a 100' hose at some small angle from the ground and if it's total height at the top end is 60" it will have the same pressure at the low end as if it was a vertical 60" hose. So I don't agree that you can use a typical hydraulic system analogy.

You're right, I calculated the static pressure to just hold up the volume. I did say that it would have to be greater than that for flow. I was agreeing with the earlier statement that 5 PSI would be about right (especially if you've already done it :-) ).

I have been using John Deere 15W-40 Plus 50 Synthetic Blend in my 4410 and Cummins for a few years with very good results. I decided to try the Shell Rotella (Rosmella)T 5W-40 Synthetic this year in the Cummins and am VERY pleasantly surprised at how well and how long it has stayed clean and gets good oil pressure quickly on cold starts. I got the Deere oil for about $1.28 a quart but I purchased a 55 gallon drum. The Shell Rotella T I got at Walmart for about $13 a gallon including tax. Both are very good oils and will meet requirements. If you keep you tractor out in cold or extreme cold weather without a block heater; I would strongly recommend the Deere 0W-40 Plus 50 Synthetic or the Rotella 5W-40 Synthetic.

You can use Shell Donax TD or Donax TD Low Vis. or if you are wanting to same some money on oil, use Walmart SUPER TECH HEAVY DUTY TRACTOR HYDRAULIC AND TRANSMISSION OIL. The Walmart oil is made by a Shell subsidiary for them and is pretty much the same stuff as the name brand Shell and Pennzoil. I used it in my Cub 154 Lo Boy and Kubota L245 with good results. I stuck with the standard visosity Deere Hygard for my 4410.

Denwood, that's why I was heavily into adding manure as it has nutrients and will decompose and add to the soil over time. I may not be able to get enough so I was looking to blend with some top soil. I need to go talk to that farmer about the manure. He's close by so if we can come to terms, it we be a huge help to me.

But first, to get rid of that snake in the house...

The dealer said it was the brake switch and also can indicate the cruise control had been attempted to be engaged. I had hit the cruise control on accident this morning when trying to engage the MFWD. I'll fire up the tractor when I get home (after killing the snake in the house) and see if the code keeps coming up. That was what the dealer recommended.

BTW, the MFWD equiped 4310 worked awesome for clearing snow. What a sweet machine!

Update...I had an opportunity to get a new L3830 for an additional $1,800 over the L3130, so I jumped on it. I also added Woods boxblade (HB72), rear graderblade (HBL84), rake (LR107), and rotary cutter (BB72). The dealer is installing a BH thumb and Kubota light kit. Buying it all at once is saving me a ton of $$$, but now I only have one arm and one leg left to operate it! My delivery date is still 1/14/05 and I will post some pics.
