Check out palet forks made by A.T.I. which are available with a qui-tach system. Makes installation similar to that on skid loaders, Just pull two release levers drive out from your bucket and drive into the pallet forks. These may not be right for everybody, but most would agree that if you have a simple task to do with your pin-on pallet forks, it's much too time consuming and aggravating to remove pins, align etc. For those of you buying new tractors who can see yourself needing pallet forks in the future, buy your new machine without a front bucket and have your dealer get you the Quik-tach setup from A.T.I. It will cost you less if you do it upfront. Anyone needing more infe, please feel free to post a followup or email me. Good Luck
P.S. Horst also makes a quik-tach system and a nice set of forks, their version is not as refined as the A.T.I., but it is less in price.

Kubota offers a 3 p.t. hitch mounted backhoe for the B2710. Be advised that a H.D. toplink bracket should be used with a three point mounted hoe. I'm not sure at this point whether or not Kubota is making this Heavy Duty bracket, I do know of several dealers who have been making their own. The Woods 7500 Backhoe unit is available with a subframe for the B2710, it is the beefiest way of attaching the hoe to your tractor. Just keep in mind that the subframes front mounting bracket which bolts to the tractor, will interfere with a belly mower.

I feel bad for everyone. I've owned a 770 fwd with several accessories for over 5 years with zero problems. I mow lawns with no scuffing even when the wheel is cramped around hard. No grinding gear problems no nothing. I am John Deere through and true. I will find it hard to believe if JD doesn't fix every problem. I would think they would consider it morally and legally the wise thing to do especially considering the price we pay for these tractors. Although I don't own a 4000 series myself I would be right beside you if I had these same proplems. Keep pounding away at them. JD owes it to each one of you. After all we keep them in business. I've been an engineer for over 18 years and there is one thing I know, there is always a way to correct an engineering problem. In your case if it means a new front axle design and installation so be it. They can engineer a new design very easily. It may not be cheap for them, but it is their problem...maybe they should of done a little more design testing on this one. Please don't settle for your tractor as is. It may make it diffcult for new owners in the future if JD gets away with it. Unfortunately your the ones that have to fight the battle this time. Hang in there.

Mike and others I own a 4400 with turf tires, I`ve changed the stance on my tractor simply by switching the tires around,left on right and viceversa, seem to make the tractor about fourteen inches wider.

I know this an older thread, but to comment on the 790, I just got one a couple weeks ago. It has restored my faith in JD again. I got ripped off on my 455, but I have to say the 790 is just the opposite. I can't believe I own a JD 30hp machine with the loader, for under 15k. The only reason I would even consider the Kubota brand any more would be for their basic 7300 model to mow the grass. Specs. vs specs. you can't get a kubota under 15k with 30hp 4x4. The closet thing jumps you into a L35 which retails for 30k+.

If you can get along with the stick shift, and live without tilt wheel, this machine can't be beat for price or power. I looked at the 4100 sitting next to me in the dealers lot, and laugh to myself when comparing the size and price of these machines. The 790 should blows away Kubota and give the modest man a machine he can afford. You really get your monies worth with the 790.

I only have a rake, sub-soiler(which works great), rear scoop, and the 70 loader, and I am loving every second on this machine. Can't wait to plow some snow!

The major componants, (engine, powertrain, etc.) are provided by the lowest bidder and can change every year or two. Not sure who actualy manufactures for Sears. In my experience, they seem to die on average after seven or eight years. We usually don't take them on trade at our J.D. dealership because of lack of resale value and high cost of making them saleable again.

Just like to reiterate some previous comments made regarding tractor selection and dealers...I just completed a pretty exhaustive study between the NH, JD and KB tractors. I was very impressed with the quality of all brands I looked at. However, based upon my needs I choose the JD4400. My decision was not based on one tractor brand being "better" than another-I think anyone who buys based on that kind of a simplistic reason is only doing themselves a disservice-but was instead based upon what options/features/etc. were most important to me. Regarding dealers, I am lucky to have multiple dealers in my immediate area for all three brands. I did notice some real differences however...not so much in the dealerships but in the salesmen. I does pay to look at different dealerships and talk to different salesmen, not only for price but also in what kind of relationship you'll be having with them in the future. In short, keep and open mind on brands, do your research, and feel comfortable with your salesman. Happy tractoring!

My local dealer told me that there is no option that will keep the hitch in the up position. As far as ballast is concerned. I used the money for the ballast box to go towards a rear blade and 6 front wieghts. I attach the blade and hang the weights on the blade frame when using the front loader. I get the use of the blade, the ballast and improved blade cutting depth for the same money. I needed the weights to keep the front end stable while using the 5' rotary cutter that I also have. The machine handles all of the above with ease.

You don't hear much about the 1700 because those older 2wd compact tractors are not nearly so popular as the 4wd. There is not a thing in the world wrong with the older 1500 and 1700s, but it helps if they are priced relative to the rest of the market. The one you are looking at is definitely at the high end..... And for the money you can buy much more tractor today. Those particular models of Yanmar were never sold new in the US, so they don't have that popularity either. By the way, they were mid 1970s models, not 1984.
Although you rarely see a 1700 priced that high, it wouldn't be hard to get that kind of money into any used Compact tractor. How does it start, run, and shift. Are the tires, brakes, clutch near new? Manuals? No oil or water leaks I hope... Nice paint job? Decals? A certain give-away as to how the owner approached repairs is if the wiring harness was taken off before painting or just painted along with everything else. Personally, when the wiring harness is painted I just walk away. I've been a mechanic too many years not to recognize what that means.............Roger L.

Gerard, I just went through the same decision you are trying to make. This is what I came up with. JD (4000 Series) High Priced lots of plastic and the power plant is a Yanmar on the other hand it a deere - a very good name. NH Boomer - its a joke, over grown lawn mower. Cub (7600 Series)- Built heavy and strong but powered by Mitsubishi - not detailed finished. Kubota 3410 HST - high priced and not green but its engineered extremely well and built to last and powered by Kubota. In my Decision JD is built to cheep (4000 Series only)- NH no way - Cub has not vested interest in the compact market (Totally Mitsubishi made unit with cub decals) and poor sales so far, they can walk away from this series any time they want. I was caught by that before when I bought a Bolens G1704 4WD (Iseki), a grat tractor but NO parts or service. I ended up with a Kubota L3410/Loader/Backhoe/Bush hog/Snow blower/blade - Yes, it cost a little bit more then the green, but it all designed correctly (I am Robotic engineer-So hopefully I know machines) and its all made to work together. Kubota is not a mismatch of components that they try to get to work together(JD) and it's not a subbrand that the "manufacture" can just walk away from when they want. Thats my two Cents.

YOu are probably correct in your front-mount suspisions. I have several Olathe products, blowers, vacuums & sweepers, all of their 3pth hitch equip. has the ability to be mounted rear 3pth, front 3pth, or in place of a front mount deck. Each configuration has a different mount (obviously) which shares a common harness on the implement itself. Any fabricating shop, or larger farm dealer, will be able to make or adapt a harness to put what you have on your machine. IMHO, (as a landscaper) you will be MUCH happier with the blower if you front-mount it, if you have ever spent much time snow-blowing, etc., you (& your neck muscles) will appreciate having your work in front of you instead of behind. What ever tiller you buy make sure it's a reverse rotation (not a climber). Kubota tillers a very good tillers and hold up well. The blades can be changed easily as well. If you are serious and don't want to "play" get the rverse rotation. It will either pull up the ground or pull your tractor into the ground. The standard tillers "skip" along the top of the ground when it's hard. Expect to pay new around $3,200. Believe me, it's worth it.
