I recently purchased an Olathe rear 3PH leaf blower. It is suppose to fit on my tractor but I am having a hard time trying to understand how it should go. I think this blower was also used for front mounted equipment. Anyone out there own one or could give me some literature on this machine. Olathe is no longer in business.

1. I would do some serious checking around. IE the Yanmar Tractor Owners Group.
I would say you probably could get a YM 1700 and a brand new bush hog (4 ft) and a WHOLE lot less money. Check it out. I have a YM2000 and very happy with it.Also according to info available, the YM 1700 would be a 1975 to 1977. They were not made in 84. Get educated before you buy. Depending where you are located, there are several good sources in the club. I am in Indiana and deal with Lowes.

My dealer and a lady from JD came and looked at my lawn today, I beleive she has an ideal how bad the scruffing problem. She told me that she would see what she could about helping me with my problem. My dealer also keeps telling that they are only fixing some of the tractors not all, he said thats what he was told from DTAC, seems they are allowing for a certain amount of scruffing. I am sure they will fix mine , my lawn is tore all to h--- and back.

I have a B2100 and when engaging drive have similar trouble. Rocking in the seat or tapping the speed control works. It is not necessary to use the clutch except to engage the PTO. However, the use of the clutch while engaging the drive is recommended from a safety standpoint, especially if the cruise is engaged or speed control is not centered.

Actually, that price doesn't sound too bad for any specialized-fit hydraulic pump. Even a basic universal type to run at engine speed off of the crankshaft nose runs half to three quarters of that amount. And a "low RPM high flow rate" type like the PTO driven hydraulic pumps are even more.
What is wrong with yours? If it is just worn, most of the wear tends to take place on the sides of the gears and the cheek plates. Used to be that hydraulic repair shops would precision re-grind the sides and the center section, and throw in new bearings and seals. So that for about half the price of a new pump you would recover about half the lost performance.

Tom, I'm sure that you can. But that is a particularly nasty combination to learn on. If you have a tractor dealer within 50 miles or so then I'll bet he can tell you who the Ag tire mobile service is for the area. If you try them, you may never want to do it yourself again

May I suggest that you lengthen the tractor drawbar as much as safely possible. This will provide a pivot point farther to the rear of the tractors rear axle, thus requiring less turns of the steering wheel to make the trailer respond.
Or- How about drilling a hole in the center of your loader bucket, mounting a trailer hitch ball there to eliminate backing altogether when spotting your boat or trailer in tight places. This also eliminates messing with trailer jacks. Just lift, latch, go, drop.

We did a hook-up for electric trailer brakes about 5yrs ago on an F250 w/ the factory tow package installed. In that case all that was needed was a controler unit (about $90) that plugged into a pre-existing plug under the dash. That was it. There were also mounting holes already under the dash, again from the factory. This may not apply to your tow vehicle, but it may. Check on whether or not the vehicle has the tow package installed (this assumes you bought the vehicle used and were previously unaware that it may have already been wired for electric brakes). I realize you're probably way ahead of me on this so please disregard the post if not applicable to you.

I've been debating the 3pt vs sub-frame issue myself. The one that is most appealing to me is the backhoe mount system on the new 4000 series JD's. Steel plates are permanently mounted to the tractor. The three-point lift arms lift the backhoe onto the plates, were it drops into two slots and is then pinned. The backhoe is now "hard mounted" to the tractor. The three point hitch is only used to lift the hoe on and off the tractor.

John, I have a L4310 HST 4WD with about 50 hours. I have had no problems with the machine so far. The HST pedal is very easy to operate and I have not experienced any vibration in the pedal while the PTO is in use as listed earlier. I also have the LA681 loader. The controls require a light hand and allow precise control. I have the standard joy stick control that mounts to the right side of the loader. I have taken the loader off and reinstalled it once and it took about 5-10 mins. So far I have used a tiller, chipper, box blade, and a backhoe with no problems. I did not like Kubota�s placement of the hydraulic control valves mounted low down and to the right side of the seat. They would be hard to reach when looking over your shoulder so I went with my dealer�s recommendation and mounted the hydraulic control valves on the right fender. Not a very pretty setup but a very natural place for your arm and hand to lay on the valves. This allows fine adjustment of the 3PH under load such as a box blade. I am amazed at how precise you can be with the box scraper while finish grading. I have not had a need to use the steering brakes or the speed control.

I need a reality check. The prices that my local (CT) dealer is quoting are nowhere near anything posted here. After some negotiation, I just got the following quote: 4100 Hydro, R4's w/Calcium, 60" Deck, Loader, 54" Plow Blade, and all misc.mounting hardware...just over $19,000.

I'll face the steep driveway problem as well. The tractor and blower are waiting
for the first major snow fall.

Being able to change the top link on the fly does sound convenient, although I suppose that a tractor with draft control would solve the problem.

It may be my lack of experience, but I'm never too successful at changing the
bucket angle on the fly with my loader, and I'm not going backwards while looking over my shoulder. There's far fewer gouges in the driveway if I angle the bucket up a bit and float the boom.

I plan to angle the blower up enough so the skids will hit first anywhere on the
drive and depend on riding the lift control for up and down. Suppose I'll have
to go back to get any deeper pockets I leave with the loader.

Putting on a hydrolic top link sounds like a good idea if I ever get enough experience to operate such a thing without tearing up the drive or driving
into the ditch. Any tips on improving operating technique appreciated.

I took my 4300 collar shift to the shop Saturday morning, should be out next week. I'll post the results. I never had to count to three with my Allis Chambers and the JD is a lot more expensive machine.

Low profile (wide) Turfs. Put light-duty chains on them front and rear for winter. You can leave the chains on for the entire winter season.
