Stopping with the brakes is the most important as what is happening is the range transmission is left under load which is the problem. The temperature gauges don't seem to move much with the Kubotas but from time to time every one gets a bad part. As you get more hours on it and the gears get a little more used the problem will fade away. This is nothing new and there are many machines that have this problem on different ends of there life cycle. When new from the tightness and when old with many thousands of hours from sloppy shifting fork rails and slides.

I did not pay any sales tax, anything related to farming in Mo. there is no sales tax...
***Some dealers if you buy a tractor with a mmm they are required to charge sales tax because they say it is not for farming.

Well, lets look at this logically.... washing machine - what kind? wringer or new fangled automatic? Could give us a better idea there...
lawn mower here we go again... reel type or rotary, power or push... could play a big part in my guess!

(Keep in mind this was 50 years or so ago.)

1*washing machine - automatic?
We used two of the gears that made the agitator go back and forth. This was used to construct the steering mechanics. Un like most automative steering that was made up of a steering gear box tie rods and other linkage we were basically able to use one set up which did the job of a steering gear box and the linkage all in one arrangement. We didn't need tie rods and all that linkage as all that was required was a short connector to each front wheel.
We also used one of the pulleys that rotated the washer drum on one end of the speed reduction jack shaft.

Motorized reel mower. These were used before the rotary mower was invented. Anyone remember them?
We used the engine for our power plant.

3*1934 Plymouth - 2 door or 4 door?
Don't know doesn't matter anyway because all we used was the steering wheel.

4*bicycle - mens or womens? Could have been either.
All we used was the small rear wheel sprocket to put on the other end of the speed reduction jack shaft. we welded the larger pedal crank sprocket to the inside of the left rear wheel. and used a section of the bicycle chain to connect the two sprockets

5*mine bolts - our your bolts?
The kind they use to support coal mine ceilings to help prevent cave in ins.
We lived about a block from the factory that was one of if not the largest supplier of these bolts to the mining industry. They would buy square stock and turn it down to make the bolts.
We bought 2 pieces of 1" in stock from them and my uncle who was a machinist turned them down on the ends to make the axles.

Probably 3/4" STEEL.
We used pipe for several things. One thing we used it for was the combination motor mount clutch.

7*Jack shaft - or jill shaft??
Actually the type used to increase or decrease speed depending on which one is your goal.
You might say this became our one speed no reverse transmission.

8*and a twin size bed? Which part? frame, mattress or springs?
Frame we used it for the chassis, under carriage or what ever you want to call it.

About the only thing we had to buy that wasn't some part off of some old junked thing was the 4 new store bought wheels.

Guess we didn't have any kind of old junk around that had any wheels on it.

Needless to say my cousin & I were the envy of all the other kids in the neighborhood.
50 years ago they all wanted us to take them for a ride on what just might have been the first go cart ever or at least the most unique one ever built.

I wish I would have kept it.
Today it would have been a unique one of a kind keepsake and a really great conversion piece.

tomrscott; Having the FEL and the box blade on the 4410 at the same time makes for a real handy outfit. It seems you're allways wanting to use the loader to push some soil out of the way, level it or sometning, so I'd hate to give up the use of the FEL plus the added front ballast it provides while box blading. I guess my point being that you could use the loader valves to operate a top and tilt for the box scraper and avoid buying the extra hydraulic valves you'll need to operate the FEL and the TNT at the same time. As I said earlier a TNT is a neat feature, I don't have one and have gotten along, but then too I don't do this for a living where time is money. I'm not sure what Deere offers for extra hyd. outlets on a 790, on a 4000 Ten series up to five are available. Far as cylinder requirements, I'm not familliar enough with the TNT system to give any advice, others on the board with more experience will help you out there. Have a great day. Frank.

You should be able to. If I remember right the JD 4000 series you push the key in to activate the Glow plugs and you can push it in if necessary as engine starts. I do not think it is necessary on these engines.

That said: On our D8 at work you use the glow plugs for 2 minutes or more at 0F and once engine cranks you can and must turn switch back to glow. It takes awhile to get it to smooth out at a fast idle. The newer engines usually fire right up and run smooth with out 2nd use of glow plugs.

I also have a 224 that I got back in the Summer '04. I know that it is a small tractor, but it sure has been helping me out with the work on my new place. How many hours do you have on yours. Do you do your own engine maintenance?

Did you get your tractor? I was also considering purchasing mine in a crate also,, till I found a dealer that beat the crate dealers deals? :-) If you haven't allready made your purchase let me know and I will turn you onto them. It might be well worth your while or should I say your wallet. :-)

The drive is an existing road bed that was last groomed about five years ago with only very crude dragging since then.

So maybe the real deal would be a good heavy box blade with adjustable scarifier teeth, and a "top n tilt" option to be able to shape the crown and ditches.

The box blade I am looking at is a Frontier 65" that weighs about 537 lbs. I am quite sure it will dig in just fine. Then the question is whether the rear blade offers any benefit or if the box blade alone will do the job?

I also like the tank heaters and you can mount them almost anywhere you want. I had the good fortune of testing mine out for the first time this morning at 2 degrees, brrrrrrr. after 1 hour I turned the ignition switch on and the temperature was warm enough to register, the engine block was warm to the touch
and I did not have to use the preheat at all

To all: So this seems like a pretty useful resource, but he doesn't have a lot of data yet. I noticed that he didn't have anything for a 790, so I sent him a pretty complete set of data for it.

May I suggest that others take a few minutes to fill out a similar table for any tractor they have the data for? If everyone takes a few minutes, we can build up a pretty good source of data that we'll find useful.

If everyone does a little, it's not a very big job.

Art, I think if I did alot of backhoe work the L48 would be a better machine, reasons, because of the reach, that extra power,and the hydraulics you mentioned. If Kubota is ok with loading the tires it would be even better. You can toss the L48 around with the hoe in tough digging or frozen ground because of the stick length and power. John Deere says don't load the tires on the 110 unless used without the hoe, I guess you have to have two sets of tires and change them when you take the hoe off, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong the Kubota is a great machine and I have alot more respect for my local Kubota dealer and the company then Deere at the moment.

Don't use JD's hygaurd if you can get the super udt! I'd only use that in case of emergency and would change it as soon as possible. Your results would be the same as udt's.

I was not to happy to see Morton putting support wood into concrete.. as down here in Florida I have seen pressure treated wood be eaten up in less than 1 year..as it was just laying on the ground, fence posts in concrete rot as well.. .. Morton uses 3 pieces of 2 x 8" pressure treated boards as support and truss beams, if I recall correctly.. building sure looked nice at the Georgia Expo though..
