Any input on Cub Cadet tractors? I'm looking to buy a 25hp compact for about 11 acres and small horse barn. The land is all open and the pastures will have to be bushhogged + I have about an acre and a half of finsihed grass that will need to be mowed. I'm thinking of a Cub Cadet 7260 w/loader [new] or a New Holland 1630 w/ 300 hrs, loader and hydro. Price would be comparable and Cub cdet dealer is close to house. My question is I don't see Cub Cadet mentioned much in these posts and I was wondering why? Any opinions would be welcome.

Wow, Ted sure knows a lot about physics and tractors and trucks and how other people drive and etc..... Maybe we (the 4000 owners) should check and see how many of us have used other tractors before and are now using this model to try the same things. As for me, I owned a ford 8N, JD 755, JD 855, JD955, and now a 4400. Hmmmmm,none of the JD's prior to this when used in the same manner have had anything close to this type of problem. I have run each of the prior tractors about 500 hrs/year and never have to worry about the tear unless in 4wd. I really don't care what he thinks about our problem, if you are tired of hearing about it then don't access the subject heading and then you don't have to read about it. as for the rest of us we have a gripe and JD should here it. that is my 2 cents.

DOES ANY ONE KNOW ABOUT THE LONG 280. IT LOOKS LIKE A SAME 35,THERE ARE NONE OF EITHER IN OUR AREA I,D HATE TO HAVE THE FIRST ONE AROUND HERE,THEY BOTH ARE LESS EXPENSIVE THEN THE BOOMER OR J.D. The 1-2 and the 3-4 input gear clusters $200 each.
The 1-2 shift fork $50 each.
The reverse gear, brand new, goes for $200.
1-2, 3-4 gear pto gear clusters go for $200 each.
On the transmission, complete goes for $1800 US with a $200 charge for core exchange.

I had a 7308 loader on my 1530 boomer. The loader seemed very wimpy compared to the one on my JD4300. I winced whenever I had to load something over the 700# mark. It also was very loose-sounding whenever it was driven over rough surfaces unloaded...gave the sounds of a loader that had 10 years of wear on the joints. Other than that, it was very easy to go on and off with, and the joystick control was ok (although very space consuming near your right knee, and also, completely disabled the 20 degree swivel function of that very nice seat due to knee interference).
If you do get one, make sure you get a heavy duty bucket!! For the extra couple of bucks you may spend on the heavy versus the standard bucket, it REALLY gives more peace of mind. I wish I had upgraded mine to the heavy duty version. Much better construction than the standard!!. Hope this helps.

The "formula" for rolling circumference for Ag Tires (R1) can be found in the Engineering Handbook provided by the Tire and Rim Association. It is not "simple." The book has to be ordered from TRA and is most often used by vehicle engineers. The Firestone Farm Tire Book doesn't list RC data for the small turf tires you are seeking because as of now Firestone doesn't produce them. They are listed in the Goodyear Handbook which you can pick up at any Goodyear Farm Tire Dealer. (That one book includes agricultural tires plus terra-tires and turf-tires that Goodyear offers.) The turf sizes listed go down into the range of lawn and garden tractor sizes which are smaller than you would probably want on refitting a compact tractor. I think this is your best source for easily getting the data you want. When making the final selection of front and rear tires, you want the theoretical travel speed of the front to lead the rear by about 1-3%.

I have a Yamaha Snowblower with a cracked plastic fuel tank. I am looking for a used one or any place I can get parts for it. The blower and the parts are discontinued, so the dealer can't help. I figure I will post messages all over the place until some one can help me.

There is only one manufacturer that builds a cab from the factory that fits your needs and that is the kubota line they currently have several models with air and heat and they are in the L-series starting at 30 hp. All three models are with the hydro trans which your wife would also enjoy. We are in upstate N.Y. and we sell a lot of cabs for heat during winter snow removal but the a/c sells these tractors.

I have a three point mount and there is no doubt some form of frame mount is better for digging. The 3 point mounts also do not raise up very high because of the three point limiter that some have refered to. This can make it tricky to get around in rough country. The compromise is to carry the hoe up real high....which means that the legs have to be long-throw types. Frame mounts suffer less from this because they can be closer to the tractor body.
Still, the 3-pt mount beats hand digging by a long shot!
There could be a "perfect backhoe mount". It would be a subframe which is not in the way of anything else and accepts a hoe with sliding fits and pins instead of bolt-up connections. Some of the commercial ones might be close to this standard.

TISCO, which is probally the largest supplier of aftermarket ag parts and supplies, has these toplinks available. They have the toplinks by themselves or in a kit with valve, fittings and hoses. Kits are available for Kubota tractors which will work on many compacts. Check with your local equipment dealer to see if they deal with TISCO and ask to see their catalog.

Chris, I own and operate a lawn business. You will not hurt or damage the plant by mowing it late in the season. As was already stated the root structure of the plant will sustain it through the winter. I would sharpen your blades and unless you have cut this field before, check it very close for bailing twine or wire. Best of luck

Colin, I'm looking at a L245DT 25Hp. with ag tires, manual steering and gear drive. No loader or attachments. It has slight sheetmetal damage around the grill area. Asking price is $3500.00 but I think I can talk him down to $3000-3250. I've found a high quality loader for $3000 installed (Not a Kelley). I've been told that a good price is $5200-$6400 for this tractor. Maybe you can use this as a starting point, and then add in for the increase in Hp. for the 345 plus any attachments and condition of the tractor. Hope this helps. Dave.

I have a 4500 with the 48 hoe.At times the hoe will pull the machine around,but this can be avoided by keeping more weight in the bucket to keep the legs on the ground.I don't flip the pads and I get along fine.Weld all you want on the bottom but remember that the hoe WILL pull your tractor around and it is better to have it so than to have it anchored so something else will break.Even larger machines get this so don't worry.

I'll put in another vote for the Kubota B2710. I have 24 acres of which I regularly mow about 12 using a 5' Rhino rotary cutter (shredder or brush hog). Now that I have cut it down to size it takes about 7 hours to mow it all, in medium range. There are lots of trees to dodge and mow around, so it would be quicker if completely cleared off.

You can't have mine. But you might want to look for a similar one, as they are in that price range, and reputed to be highly reliable (I've only had mine 3-1/2 months, but no trouble in that time).

Ford 4500 series, 1968-74, 740 loader, 750/753/755 Hoe (10, 13, or 15 ft).

Not exactly compact, but there are pluses to that as well as minuses, and it's not a huge rig, either.

Actually, the Ford / New Holland dealer in Dalton MA had one of these and a couple of others sitting on the lot in August - I don't know what his prices are, as I had already bought mine when I went there for filters, etc. But I don't recall that you said where _you_ were, anyway.

and then go down to the bottom of the page. Have never purchased anything from them and know nothing about their quality. Keep in mind that if you live a ways from them, freight could add a bit to the price.

Perhaps you could add creep speeds to your tractor? If you could make the tractor move more slowly, the tines would have more time to dig. Troy-bilt walk behind tillers could use a lower gear too, in my experience.

Sorry to break your balls Len, but Kelley loaders are garbage. A neighbor has one mounted on an L245, It's poor design is highlighted by the spray painted stenciled letters, reading "KABOTA". Try a local Bush Hog dealer, or give me an email.
