I have a new house with several hundred open acres around me. This is my first winter here and the mice are invading me big time. So far only in the basement. I have gotten 6 of these rascals. The have been cleaning off the peanut butter bait about half the time without getting caught. Any ideas for better traps or bait? A cat is out of the question because of my physcho dog, and the dog just trashes the place when allowed in the basment. Time to go Re-bait with a combo of sticky trays! Thanks for any advice.

I've been watching ebay for a certain kind of motorcycle. One was listed in Canada from somebody with no feedback with a "Buy-It-Now" of about half of what the going price is. He didn't get any bids and eventually the ad was pulled (don't know if ebay pulled it, or he stopped the auction).

This one looks like a "too good to be true" deal. It is always possible that stolen items are being sold as well.

I've bought quite a bit of stuff from ebay, including parts for my tractor restoration projects, and have had only one bad experience...lost $5. You can save a bunch of money if you're careful.

Gentlemen, I will be attempting to put in a gravel road approx 400ft long. I have went back through the posts and tried to get some info, and have asked a few questions. I understand the concept of a crown, but I was looking for some specifics. I am guessing that you cut the crown into the earth as oppossed to making the center of the road higher with gravel. Is this correct? Also if so how high do you leave the center in relation to the sides, and whats the best way to get that shape? I have a JD 4400 with fel. I'm going to buy a 6' box scraper, and I have access to a Cat 941 track loader. Once again fellows any help would be greatly appreciated. You guys have been great. Thanks<br>

Denwood, I agree with Ibrown, this is not safe, and you said it yourself "almost safe". There is no middle ground when it comes to safety, its either safe or its not safe. Any installation that fails to meet code, NEC and/or NESC, is considered a dangerous situation.

I would suggest on an existing house panel that is not connected to the utility source that you do the following: remove the main service conductors to the main breaker (typically 200amp) from the panel then connect your generator to the main breaker lugs. This way you will have a visual open connection to the utility and the distribution panel breakers will protect you and the circuit. However, you can overload the generator. A typical house(1500-2500sqft) in our area will use 9 - 13kw. Be sure the connecting conductors between the generator and panel are rated to carry the load. Better still, get advice from your electrical inspectors. Dave

When I get my stone, they deliver by the ton. They give you a printout from the quarry that lists the cost of the stone as well as the cost of delivery. I try not to order anything after a rain as you don't get nearly as much crusher run when it is wet. Most loads delivered here are between 18 and 20 tons.
Shale is delivered by the load and you don't get anything but a little receipt for it but it is a lot cheaper than stone.

As far as I know to achieve true 540 RPM PTO speed on the 4100 JD you need to run the engine RPM at real close to max. as indicated on the tach approx. 2500 Rpm has a yellow line that indicates proper engine RPM for PTO use. I had the engine running at 1700 or just above idle as this provides plenty of power for the 6st with the pump I have. I would think on a bigger tractor you would run higher RPM as the machine weight would compensate for the additional power. Any more info would be helpful. My JD dealer is dealing with Hardy to try to get it covered under warrenty. I am not only looking to fix the cylinder but to prevent this from happening again.

Tom; Sounds like you have a classic case of a ruptured bladder in the pressuer tank. All the bladdere really does is keep air seperate from the water which will over time absorb the air in the tank till you're almost completely filling the tank with water not leaving enough room fo much air to provide you with stored pressure between pump cycles. I haven't had this happen in quite a while so perhaps they make the bladder out of better stuff now, we used to go thru a tank every two or three years. So if you've gone 7 yeare on one tank that isn't bad, they do wear out. Best of luck. Frank.

Have the same wife problem you do. Not quite the permanent solution you were looking for, but after years of evolution, I've mounted all my lights on "frames". For those on the gable ends, some screw hooks mounted once at the peak and near the bottoms, and frames with corresponding eye bolts and the the lights go up easily and quickly. For those to be mounted on gutters, I bolted small spring clamps to the frames and these clamp over the gutter edge. First year is difficult laying every thing out and getting the lights mounted to the frames, but if you label the frames correctly the succeeding years are a breeze. After trying various different frame materials, pretty much settled on wood furring strips. Tried PVC but it was too flexible. Galvanized electric conduit works well for the gable ends, but then you have to tape the lights to it instead of using a staple gun.

I think that the tractor chassis's have changed so much that the new full frame hoe would be quite a project to mount on an older model. The woods unit isn't what the BX is when you get them side by side. Even there hoe comparable to the BH90 isn't the same. Less reach, height and depth.

Ok, you have the land, enough to offer yourself some income, AND you have some toys. You are way ahead of the game already my friend. Around here (New England area), land is being gobbled up, and the backyard vegetable gardener wants to have their yard - not necessarily with a weedy garden plopped in the middle of it. Or they do not have sufficient space for a veg. garden.

What we have been doing for many years, is making available 'patches' of gardening space within a large garden plot for people to rent out for their very own garden. You own the land, you own the equipment to plow or till it for them (prep work) and then they do the rest, while you sit back and reap the benefits of rental income.
Maybe some free veggies too, TRUST ME...it works!

There would only be one choice for me and that would be the full frame BH90! When trenching the booms never seem long enough so the extra reach is a plus. There are parts of the frame which stay with the tractor but it is a great performer.

I had a customer once that discarded a pair of forks. I modified a hook-up on the loader bars, and used them for about fifteen years so far - as Tony the Tiger says... "THEY"RE GRRRREAT!"

One thing that makes them more effective is once you have a brush pile accumulated. is to roll the pile abit before picking it up. By doing so, it compresses the pile and has a tendency to tie itself up a bit so minimal loss will occur when it actually gets picked off the ground.

Log carrying as well as old butt ends of telephone poles are made REAL easy to carry as well! I carried and set about 350 butt ends of 15" poles for my fence with them. My back would not have held up; Post hole digger on the 3pt, and the forks on the bucket frame.

If you want to add remote hydraulics to the back of your tractor, you need a $3 power beyond plug, and two hoses with fittings. The connections are made to the top of the casting just under the seat. Unfortunately, you have to take a lot of stuff off before you can get at it. If your tractor has an "SCV" (aka loader valve), it is attached in the same general area. Unlike the Kubota loader valves, there is no simple power beyond attachment to the JD SCV.

Ask your JD dealer if their service dept has the instructions to install the plug and hoses.

I have done this job on 3 955s and it is a PITA. 755 is probably the same.

I have a bx2200. Like a bx23 minus the hoe. I have about a 5 acre plot I use it on and am almost done putting in a 600' path over heavy rock wash out. Boulders the size of a VW bug! It took me some time and now that I'm in around the 550' mark from where I dump my piles of chips from the local services I wish I had a bigger machine. This is only 5 acres not 100. Keep this in mind. The smaller machines hold about a big wheel barrow of material so it takes a while if you need to move stuff a long distance. As far as power? If you know how to operate a machine which comes with time there isn't much you can't do. I've dug some serious stuff with this little machine. What it can't lift I can certainly push to where I need it. Some of these big rocks were harder than others but they are a very powerful little machine. I have 5 acres and wish I went bigger, with 100 you will more than likely have the same wish.
