I'd recommend Armaflex foam insulation. If you want more, just put a bigger size on top of the "fitting" size and double up. This would give you close to 2" of foam and should be plenty. Reliable, easy.

Yesterday I was just working on my machines to get them ready for winter (mower removal, etc..) and I saw this thread. I'm glad nobody thought I was changing the subject- just though all snow removal techniques are welcomed!

Its a vinyl fence dual gate 10' opening. Its expensive stuff so it pays to shop around, and shop around some more.
I found a difference as much as $1,500 just for that 70ft
section between different sources. Since its vinyl it expands (summer) and contracts (winter) a lot, its not a big deal but if you are looking for tight tolerances becareful. The hinges give you adjustment ability to compensate for the changes. Its maintence free and beautiful
which are its strongest points.

Here in Maine with a min. rule for frost at 4' I would<br>
remove all overburden, DEF. Any dark soil and rocks down to what we call hardpan, then fill the site with clean course<br>
gravel, Gravel, not screened stone. Not sure what you have available to you in Va.? What do they use for road beds? Topsoil does not make a good base.<br>
Our rule of thumb is to compact it as we go every foot of fill gets compacted. I would want to be a foot(min) above grade(highest point)all the way around the building. Before they delivier the new builing.<br>
I know you want to do all you can yourself and save money but you only get one chance to get the site work done right. You can fix a buiding after it's up, but you can't fix the site,after it's up.

thanks gras and chief your input is greatly welcome as well as everyone whom has responded. well as i said previously they put a deadline on me for the price on the 790 something about extending the sale price? not sure if he is just pulling my chain trying too push me into closing the deal before months end. i hate that i never liked being rushed too a deal that i know so little about. at anyrate i'm leaning 990 as you said chief my only complaint is its size three frame sizes bigger than the 790! thats alot. you see i may have too tow this beast too my brothers and sisters homes and there is always the friends that come out the woodwork when they find out you got something they need! not having a 1 ton truck too tow it with or a trailor large enough. guess i may be in the market for a small dumptruck if i get the 990! yeehaaaa! always wanted one of them. dang my pocket book is sqealin smokin like a married man's! well i had glanced at a 990 on one lot that was a demo model 49 hours i think on it 18000.00 i believe he quoted. anyone know if the lift capacity of the other loaders will be greater on the 990 as of now it seems they use the 430, wonder how the new 300cx? will effect lift and break out forces or will the 460 work on the 990 guess i'll have too test my computing abilities and try and find the specs on the three too compare. well thanks again too all who replied being a tractor dummy i need all the help i can get.

Now we are talking!!!!!!! My parents own an antique store, and they just paid $80 for an 8 foot tree. If the tree puts on a foot per year, and I can begin harvesting in 5 years, and save some trees of course to get bigger, that might be the way to go. I could grow a good crop on 3 acres. I could line them up so mowing would be no problem. I guess I need to start researching this. Only question, why are'nt more people doing it????????

I also thought of growing ornamentals, but frankly I don't like them. I also considered magnolias, they are low maintenance and smell great when they bloom :) However, christmas trees seem much more profitable than magnolias.

Ps-I did consider leasing, but it just does'nt seem worth it when it is only a few acres. I really probably could'nt expect much return, and another person would be controlling that portion of my property, and would have access. Not that I could'nt deal with that, I'd just love to avoid it, and doing something myself opens up a learning opportunity and experience.

I live in SW Idaho where the temp. will be getting down in the 10 degree range. My tractor manual indicates I should be switching to No. 1 diesel. Is that the case or can I get by with No. 2? Also should I using an additive? If so, any recommendations for what kind to use.

They are worried about you pulling from a higher point and pulling so hard you roll the tractor over backwards. the other problem that can arrise is when you brake, the 3 point can rise up unless held down. I have never had any trouble towing with 3 point and I don't bother to hold it down, but load is never bigger than tractor.

The ground breaker is the way to go with the TZ tractors. They will be available in about one month. They go on and off easy and have a PTO driven pump. The 6000 is a bit on the heavy side.

I have a 1990 4WD B1750 HST with 1640A loader and 60 MMM. It has power steering and 3PT position control.It has 1067 hours on it. I am going be selling it. I bought it new and am getting a new B7800 HSD on Monday. Tractor is in good condition. What is current value and how much should I ask for it. I did not even try to trade it in on my new one because I figured the dealer would never give me what it was worth. I figured I made a better deal on the new one without a trade in.<br>

I don't shop Wally World or Home Depot. Materials in the long run are cheaper at my local building supply, they have people that know something and material comes on a boom truck when and where you want it. The prices of toasters, coffee pots, car parts or what ever, would be the same if they where made in the US, it's all proffit margin to please the share holders. When Nikes where made in New Hampshire they where sneakers that lasted a year with everyday use at a fair price. Now that they are made by kids in sweat shops at 35 cents a pair, they cost three times as much and last 1/10 the time. All profit margin.$165.00 a pair for sneakers and people pay it!!!!!!!

2*I was told it had to be built to "national codes" just like a regular garage.
3*Also--how about re-sale value? Have you spoken to a realtor about that.

2*Was in the housing and building business 31 years around here and never came across a national, state or county building code for a garage pole building or a stick built house.
I did run into federal requirements to qualify for Government Loans.
The only code I ever had to comply with is the national code for Manufactured Housing.
3* Why would adding a pole building to your property decrease the value of your real estate?

Duh I can see it now : Had a piece of raw land worth $20000 .Put a new Mobile home on it and the value dropped to $10000 then added a pole barn and the value plunged again to $5000.
Any body wanna buy my place now for the new appraised value of $5000 ?

Anybody used rubber mulch? My buddy's landscape supply sells it for...better sit down for this...$630-$850 for a 3-yard palletized poly-bag. It's made of recycled rubber tires and surface-dyed---just like chopped up pallets! The amazing thing though is that it looks and almost feels like (rubbery) wood. The cheaper stuff is chunks about the size of pine bark; the expensive stuff has pieces that look like shredded cedar bark. Comes in several colors including dark and light brown, and even blue, red and green. Commercial office buildings and condo complexes like it because they don't have renew it every year.

No KC their not bad, but what is your time worth and how bedraggled do you want to be when you get there? If you can afford it non stop it's generaly always better and you have a greater chance of having your luggage going to the same place as yourself!!

I agree with all the other posts, but would add that using the geo-fabric is a wise choice. Half of our 1000' road was done with fabric and the results are astounding. We had over 1,250 40-yd gravel trains delivering clay backfill for the adjoining 13 acre property for 6 months straight. The half that didn't have the fabric sank 6" - 8"---the wet clay under and along the road liquefies and literally oozes out and up along the roadway effectively creating a reverse ditch (the road being the ditch). After spreading another 800 ton of stone the road is almost back to where it was, and the oozing hasn't stopped.

I do a lot of drainage trenching here in SE Michigan. Luckily there has always been a creek, ditch or river to drain to. I used to use my backhoe but then I picked up a large Case DH5 trencher/backhoe for $1000. It is set up to trench 9" wide and has the ability to trench up to 16" in one pass. It is about 5 times faster than any backhoe, doesn't make the mess a backhoe would with piles of chunky spoils, and because the spoils are in small "crumbs" it makes backfilling easy. Home Depot has a trencher mounted on a Toro Dingo for $270 a day---well worth it if you don't buy your own trencher.

I agree the only way to maintain the road is with a power box rake a.k.a Harley rake. The ruts/holes have to be ground-out and all the road surface brought back to being all one homogeneous material (loose and fluffy) and consistent compactness for the both the base and top layer. I maintain my 1000' road that has 21-AA crushed limestone with my 6' 3-pt power rake. It will go down 6" in one, slow pass grinding everything in its path. I had been using my Galion 10' road grader but it couldn't touch the result of the power rake and subsequent smoothing with a 6' box scraper. Even the guys who put the road in 35 years ago are amazed the road has remained rut-free for nearly 10 months---with a grader I was doing it every week or so. I also "maintain" a neighboring road only using my box scraper. (neighbors don't want to pay for the power raking service), and the box scraper is done as a favor. The ruts and holes never go away and are getting worse with every rain.
