Crash, the Long brand was rather popular in my area for many years. They have a local dealer who sold many over the years and many are still in use. My brother had I think the next size to yours and it was a workhorse. Simple design. No sure have available parts are now for the company at least in the USA left a few years back rather short notice (no notice) catching dealerships off guard. Still a solid tractor.

I would suggest greatly seeing if you could find any manual for that tractor especially since you are new to tractors. If you are new to tractors you really have a lot to learn and you better off doing so without damaging tractor, implement or most important yourself.

Check the bolts on the rear axle housing to be sure none or missing and all are tight. That was the cause of my brothers tractor becoming a parts tractor. Check the rubber boots around the transmission levers, they will slip and let water into the transmission adding to the hyd oil. Think a good auto parts store such as NAPA will be able to match filters if you take the numbers off of yours to them.
If you have never used a tractor with a pto (power take off) implement, you need to know how to engage it (I think that tractor has what is called a two stage clutch. With the tractor not running try pressing the clutch very slowly and see if you can feel any difference when may a couple of inches of travel is left. Then with tractor out of great and running try it again and when releasing the clutch. If it is a two stage clutch the first couple or so of travel engages the PTO and not the travel clutch. This is very very important to know and learn how to use. You do not want to be running the engine at high rpm and just pop the clutch out to engage a pto implement. You can do damage the the implement the pto shaft or the tractor. Slowly engage as you would first gear.) If you need to stop the pto driven implement press the clutch pedal fully.
There is a lever that engages the PTO not sure where but normally on top of the transmission but I think on the left side of it. DO NOT SHIFT INTO OR OUT WITH LOAD ON IT OR CLUTCH NOT DEPRESSED if running.
One other item on there you need to understand is the rear end lock or as proper name is the Differential Lock. It will be in the rear of your right foot. Think it is near your heel. Look for it. You NEVER engage it while the tires are rotating. If so possible damage to the rear end will happen. Many people do not realize one only tractor wheel is normally pulling as with many any two wheel drive auto or pickup. Pushing this pedal locks the rear end where both rear tires rotate the same to help when extract traction is needed. That is the only time I think you should use it. However it can be used to help keep the tractor driving straight such as pulling a heavy load or plow. YOU CAN NOT MAKE ANY KIND OF SHARP TURN WITH IT ENGAGED. Forget using the rear bakes on making such turns.
Now that pedal often sticks engaged on any brand. You may find you need to stop the tractor when the lock differential is no longer needed, slowly back up for it to release and even have to pull up on it.
No doubt you have already changed the fluids, check filters and replaced if needed and greased it. Don't miss lubing or oiling the linkage under the tractor. Easy to do.

Have reread several of the post here. To me there are some very common points in each. Seems many are not what is called Seniors. Not sure that is true for most of us have more toys as some like to call them than when we were very young. <br>

We learned a work ethic that often comes from farm and rural life. We were blessed to grow up with God's creation as part of our daily life and respect and care for it today.<br>

The best advice I can give on starting any of the newer gas tools is to follow their directions to the letter. On my sthil I believe is something like two but no more than four pulls with choke on if engine is cold. Then bump choke off of full choke to guess called fast idle. I know if you flood my sthils you might as well find another job for at least thirty minutes for the gas to clear out.

As to the older power tools cranking easier, the sthil I use and I have discussed that in depth. He said it is due to the epa rules. The newer ones run so much leaner and that makes them harder to crank. Ok seems contrary to the flooding issue. As to Red Max being made by Husky years ago, not what I thought. Not saying I am wright just repeating what my Red Max dealer told me when I bought Red Max about a year ago. He said Red Max was bought by Husky due to Red Max was meeting epa standards and Husky was failing to. He went on to say Red Max was to become the professional line and Husky would be the consumer line. NO WAY AM I CERTAIN HE IS correct but he seemed very confident in what he was saying. Red Max and Husky did use two different types of connections on their split systems and last year they became the same which makes it seem they only recently became one company.

Oh first thing I have really learned to do on any small engine, pump the fuel bulb till it is tight. I don't care how many pumps it takes. If you don't forget two or four pulls to crank the engine.

Did you get your drive shaft fixed?

I know it has been a while since your last post but wondering here, what the odds are of finding a suitable shaft or having one made that would slide together for replacment.

Then cut the old into to remove.

Neither am I familiar with the plumbing on that tractor. However, if there is no sign on leak on the floor then makes sense it is leaking internally.

How much fluid are you adding each time you use it?
I would suggest you check all fluid levels, not just the hyd oil level but the engine and possible the coolant. The coolant probably is not where it is going but it should be causing the coolant to look oily if it is. Just rule it out.
Is it possible it could be leaking into the combustion system where it would never affect a fluid level as it is burnt. If so would think the smoke color would help as it should smoke.

If power steering uses hyd oil then it leaking into the engine oil of the hyd system should not be a major concern to them. The engine most likely is much smaller system so track it very carefully to see it is increasing as you add power steering fluid.

Try to find a parts diagram on the pump to see what seals it has that are external surface. Would think it has to be there.

I know this was couple of months back but sorry about your wife. Hope she is doing well now.

Did you get it fixed? I have had this on one of Kubota's and all it needed was linkage lubed. Also if open linkage weak spring or trash can cause the pedal not to return to proper neutral.

AND I HAVE TO AGREE WITH MURF...many if not most Hydro trans tractors never have park brake set with operator getting off and on..I agree dangerous. Pedal too easy to hit by accident on any.

I now own 3 Kubotas, nearest to the size you are talking about is a B2710. It probably would handle what you are asking of it but would not suggest a BX, lift capacity is not there for height.

The best tractor to me I have ever own was a full size JD. Sold it when retired from farming and miss it greatly. It just felt solid compared to my Kubotas.

Do as Paul has suggested, write down the task you know you want it to do. Then the task you think you may come up with later. Then find out about the implement needed for that task and then find out what size tractor you need for it. Now you know the tractor size you need. Tractor size is not just horse power it is also physical size. A lot of older farm tractors have by today's standards small hp but have weight for traction and stability. They also have 3 pth capacity in height is is great with such as an auger, blade for moving dirt of snow.

Have no experience with Land Pride or King Kutter mowers rough cut or finish mowers. But things to look at and consider:
It's weight. Metal is heavy. Normally light metal is more easy damaged and fails. Sheet metal of many rough cut mowers is what fails quickest.
The thickness of the metal. If given in gage smaller number is thicker than larger number, same as with shotgun shot or wire.
Look at the blades and how they mount.
Look at the pto shaft that comes with it. Is one simple shaft and other has slip clutch? Is one a shear bolt and other uses slip clutch? Is the pto shafts same hp rating? Does the third arm mount allow some movement to allow the mower can ride up over high spots.
Look at the gearbox if any noticeable difference and the hp rating of them.

Draft control does vary between tractor brands and probably even models of the same brand. To me they take some practice to get use to them but worth the effort.

But to leveling land with tractor, hard for me to do with anything on the lift. One of the best implements I have ever bought was a pull box blade. With the distance it sits behind the tractor and with it having wheels behind it riding on grade you just level it produces better results, easier. I also find I can adjust the rear remote control pull blade much finer than on the lift itself.

Was not aware Ammo was a true Shop Tool but have a grandson who would argue it is a necessity to have big boxes available for you never know when the need or opportunity may come up.

Is that the only caliber you track? For those here in Canada can you help them?

Unless your mower is one designed to be tilted by hyd know of no way to be safe and have the deck in a position to sharpen the blades. Normally you replace the blades.

Murf's trick does work well. Yes you spray into the air intake. This is one OLE trick I learned before I learned the wise Murf. My brother thought I was crazy when his Allis Chambers would not crank and I asked for his WD 40, helps with cold temps and will also work with small gas engines.

Right now own three Kubotas. Bought my first almost 21 years ago. It is for sale now but only as my need for that size tractor has passed. If you pay attention to the professional tractors users, farmers being the ones I know the best, seldom trade due to the age. They trade due to hours or to upgrade or normally larger but sometimes smaller (me), serious issue with it something along those lines.

On my mother in laws house it is about 1600 square feet with one car carport. I had four roofing contractors look at it and three had the same recommendations and the other said it needed new sheeting. For that one was even $9,000. To do basic shingle removal and replace up to two sheets sheeting in the price. New boots and flashing. The price without new sheeting was about $7,800. This is with 30 year singles.

I would suggest at least a second quote. Both in writing and check them out.

Bonzoer, interesting thought you have there. Would that also prevent the dash lights from working?

hog...When you say NO Fire anywhere...then I would begin at the battery itself and keep testing for power till I found where it ended.

First, Murf is the one who beat into my head...first you soil test. Then would read another of his post to see...first you soil test. Well you know he was and still right on that.

Depending on where you are you will find those local farm co-ops or farm supply stores will have guys who spread the lime or bulk fertilizer for hire even easy for us "fat boys". Your 120,000 square feet is near three acres, your issue on hiring it is that is not very large compared to farm land where they normally are spreading so you may have issue with getting them to spread that small of area. Also you need to consider will a loaded truck be a problem in your yard.

I am sorry but as I hit submit forgot this: you may know this and if you do great but if not don't want an accident. DO NOT REMOVE THE HOSES with the loader raised. It will fall and spraying fluid as it does. Hyd oil under pressure is dangerous.
Lower the front end loader full and have the bucket flat also. Cut off the tractor and break the pressure which means work the loader lever each direction to release the pressure,would do 2 or 3 times.

If the tractor is new to you and you are new to tractors are you changing gears to climb the hill or to make turns? You may be using to high a gear for the grade or the turn.

If that is not it but the engine is dropping rpms can understand the air filter but not sure how the hydraulic oil filter could have an impact on it's speed. But with it losing power climbing a grade or making turns think you may have a fuel issue. First check the water separator and drain if there is water in it. Be sure you have a good flow from the fuel filter as there may be trash in the tank moving over the outlet with the grade or slope of the machine changing n grades or in turns.

No idea where I have read the simple instruction to retract all cylinders possible. That pushed the oil from cylinder back to the transmission or tank as the case maybe. If you were to remove the front end loader how would you change the oil in it? You want to change as much of the oil as you can when you do change it.
