It would be very unlikely to create any issue if you were to try and see if those ports did work. If you wanted to try it real carefully then run a short loop between the two ports to test it. If it is running in through the hose then it should warm the hose up to the touch. I have no doubt a heated cab there would be a real blessing. kt

Thanks. I have it already in 5 gallon buckets and 4 or 5 are black and yes they are sitting in the sun. Not by plan just was frustrated with the issue and had not moved under shelter. kt

pw glad to have you here. Just FYI the date a message is posted in the solid line on the left end above the post. Like yours reads 09-22-2015 for Sept 22. The one above was in 2001 I think.

Your post has some good points and at good timing for me. Have major contamination in a cutter's tank I was restoring. kt

You probably have taken action on this by now and no one has commented but I would think you have gear issue in the transmission or either the linkage is not fully engaging into forward.

As already pointed out Kubota does have some good info on line and you play with the site can find some general info that will be near the specs of your tractor. I would suggest first oil and filter change you buy direct from local Kubota shop. Keep filter numbers but I do not find their filters much more than some others.

Boy the lights wiring being cut off, wonder why. Hope you are able to figure that out. Have been trouble by issue with my flashers for two years and got tired enough just decide flashers not needed, which is not best idea. Hope to work on that this weekend for last time, meaning getting it fixed.

That is good. Boy need old memory here but think there is speed control on the side of the transmission that may have gotten moved with slide. Also try to see if the draft or position lever was moved out of position. Sure you have checked the fluid level but I would try draining a little to see if the fluid looks fine and not contaminated. I think there is a screen filter there for the pickup but not sure. There were two things I did not like on the 601, the brakes were tough to keep working and not having an overrun clutch both caused me concerns around such as ditches especially when using bushhog.

Have someone work the lever and you watch to see if it rotates the rod for there is a pin or set screw there that could be loose or missing or broken.

I went and checked the buckets I had and it only shows JD 303 on it. The company does not have a web site I could find. Did some checking on this and the best I was able to determine is it probably equals the MF 1129 but those oils are not as good as the new oils and are for equipment from the time frame of your tractor. I bought mind to use in hyd cutter and would not consider in my tractors but their call for newer specs by far.

If you will make a few calls to general tractor shops, oil dealers you should be able to find oil you need. For the amount of oil you need it should not cost you a total of a lot more to go with a higher grade oil.

Very much agree with you comment on this site compared to some with "high" traffic. Will visit one like from time to time and totally agree.

Had you tried opening the fuel tank to see if that helps, could be vent system clogged. It is not running hot is it? You did change the air filter also? With bush hogging check for trash in the intake and radiator. Another possibility is the gear box on the cutter is low in oil and it is running hot and getting hard to turn.

I assume you have the old one. It seems you should be able to take it and find on close enough to it to work. Might even try a auto salvage yard.

First I agree with "auerbach".

Kirkdspain, is it possible to switch the use of the two solenoids to see if they solves your problem? A solenoid is normally a very simple part, electrical coil that pulls or pushes a plunger as electricity is applied. So if a solenoid then would either be the coil has failed or a seal has failed. Would think reasonable DIY to check. If you can apply power to it with the tractor off you may have here it working. Can you check the coil to be sure it has not burnt out? Do you have a volt meter? If you do then pull one of the leads off of it and place leads between the solenoid and that lead. If the coil is good it will read voltage (should be same as system) if coil is bad it will not read voltage as the circuit is broken. You can use test light same way. If the coil test ok then try listening for the plunger's movement. You may be able to rest hand on it lightly and even feel it. Does the solenoid control hyd oil? If yes the be very careful in breaking the line to see if it is letting the fluid through. If you do be sure to place rag over the fitting to control the fluid so it can not hit you with high pressure stream.

My idea would not for the dash and not sure it would work where suggesting but could you take expanding spray foam to fill the fel beams to prevent them entering them? Realize you are trying to get ride of them and another reason is they attack snakes.

It sure seems there would be a true electronic device that would make a sound or vibration sound that would run them off.

You might need to look for the food source near enough they can live where you tractor is. No idea how far they will travel for food but would doubt very far. No idea on their need for water.

When have you changed the hyd oil? Being milky is a good indication of water in it. If you check it before starting up and it does not look milky but does after running it the water is settling out and to the bottom of the oil then being mixed back into it. If you can drain the oil without all coming out you may be able to remove the oil without a full drain.

I think you will find some post here on issue with Long on this due to the failure of seal around gear shift levers. My brother has same issue with his Long. kt

Year, condition, options all come into play. There are a few large sites that have listings for tractors such as tractor house, machine finder and others I would search them to get a good idea. If you will do a search using the model of the tractor for sale should find a few listings. Will tell you in my part of the world you will find fewer Kubotas than about any other major (my thought on who the major companies are ok) brand. kt

In my years in a heavy equipment manufacture plant one of the best tools I ever saw was a book written now many years ago about what tools you could use to do other jobs than what that tool was sold for. It contained something called common sense (not offered on ebay nor in much of life any longer)and really a necessity for about any DIY or even small operation. In saying that our plant also made use of that same idea with certain machines. It was always interesting to hear the conversation of what machine do we have that can do this new job as most often more than one was offered by that department with what they thought of it's benefits and limitations.

So you use a wood working router with a metal milling bit. Good idea. Know years ago in my small wood project days the idea the best small wood working tools metal cutting tools. Think it was using end mills versus straight router bits.

I am in the course of rebuilding a boom mower and could not get one cylinder to retract. Then noticed one hose kept coming out of the female fitting. Switched the hoses as Joel said to do and no issue. Have to test other male fitting in that female to find out where the issue lies.

That is about as good outcome as you could have hoped for. kt
