A single shank subsoiler can be very useful if you think outside the box. Great for digging small stumps. Great to help with bigger ones. Great for laying wire, water line or such.Great for finding stumps under ground. Even great at breaking up hardpan. Can use for digging trench to plant seeds or transplants by hand. Can use it to loosen dirt that must be shoveled out by hand for ditch or wide trench.

Thanks Murf. That is too simple. I guess you could paint the end one color and the top another and the bottom another if you needed any extra visual indicator.

Reading another thread got me to thinking on sounds we associate with bad news with equipment, or even life. Just wondering what comes to your mind or experience.<br>

Dry squeal meant shaft was under load to point it snapped. The joint was greased through fitting drilled in shaft and it was not taking grease as it should have.

Sorry for the issue but glad did not failed at bad timing. Not sure "clunking" is ever a good sign. Know squealing is not, unless there are hogs around or maybe small children.

I very much know any fluid expands as it heats up but think all hyd systems for tractors and such have vents to release the pressure and even oil with some. Used my brothers hydraulic ditch bank cutter a few weeks ago and it has its own self constrained hyd system powered by tractor's pto. He asked me to check the level for he thought it was low. It was and took couple of gallons to fill. Not real hot weather and did not run it really hard but it probably pushed a gallon of that oil back out as it heated up. Probably that cutter needs a cooler on it for summer use. Mostly here they are used in our cold winters when temp drops to say 50. We cut ditches rather than push snow. OK a cheap shot but you think warm winters are only great and for the most part that is correct. lol

Which this brings me to I not sure have ever seen a manual that tells you to check the hyd oil cold or hot. I normally do cold.

Does this tractor have only the electric fuel shut off as many do or does it also have a manual pull cut as all use to? If it has a manual could be called emergency cut off all I have seen are a pull knob normally on the side side of the dash. May not be in the most visible place but should be easy to reach.

Do take Art's comment and find the issue and fix with the electric cut off solenoid.

I think you will need to due to how tight all compact tractors are and also to give you good clear view of removal of all parts of gasket and the installation.

Has been a good indicator to me, can you remove the fan with the radiator in place? If not then it must be removed, if room to then it can stay. I am assuming the fan on this tractor is bolted to the water pump.

Dos, remove all of the old gasket even scraping. Get proper gasket sealant and use to hold gasket in place and to seal so apply lightly to both sides. Spin fan by hand before installing belt on to be sure it does clear. Be sure to install coolant before starting tractor backup so new pump is not run dry. Tighten bolts like you do for a tire and easy. Pump houses are cast and will break. You know to be safe with the old antifreeze and to install new hoses and belts while there. Oh yeah fins on radiators are good finger tip slicers.

Have not even looked at removing a Gator fender and have paid no attention to how they are bolted on our Gator.

Needed to remove rear fender from John Deere tractor this week and saw very obvious row of bolts and removed them. Oh that was not bad. But the fender did not wiggle, guess those bolts were for looks. Looked up under the fender and found along the top a much less obvious row or more bolts. When I did see they ended up under the side console thought, ask JD dealership on this. They offered to send me parts breakdown picture but it was decided they would do the job due to how large it really was.

So look carefully for hidden bolts, try wiggling the fender to find the area that is not free and look carefully. Also some shops or parts department will be glad to print you off the page showing the installation especially if you bought the fender there. Do assume you checked you tube to see if there happens to be video there.

The nozzles I have always and do run are spraying .4 gpm at 40 psi. For 17 nozzles that gives me 6.8 gallons. If I pick it up to 60 psi it goes to .49 gpm and that puts me at 8.33 gpm. Then I do not want a system that is at it's max ability for a sprayer for could need to add a few more nozzles for coverage or use larger nozzle to get the gallons per acre with some chemicals. Guess could put tractor in "crawl" gear. lol

I do appreciate the point the gpm per nozzle is not that much but there are booms here and we don't have large fields that was say 30 feet each boom. They all run electric controllers but seems no one who sells the units know the info on them. Well take that back, at least no one I have asked. kt

Your reputation is not shaky with me. We all either have had a tractor problem, have a tractor problem or only run to the mail box and back. Or don't have a tractor which is also a tractor problem!

On the digger, was helping a nephew dig some post holes in a pasture with some trees. We caught a good root and before you could hit a clutch the front end was in the air and the auger screw securely into a mat of roots. A real mess. Had to take pto off and use iron bar to unscrew the auger. That was when I decided I wanted a hyd auger with reverse to it. no still don't have one but don't use auger much either. If I were going to get one would want a hyd hung from front end loader so easy to watch and reverse.

Dennis that is not what I thought you were talking about. I thought you were talking about for an open hose with not end fitting, sorry.

I would say your pricing on those is fair. Now what size are mine? Until recently had no need for the color fittings or did not realize I did until it hit me sure would help on hooking up rear remotes so you do not hook the hoses backwards which still works but, well works backwards.

How did you determine it was going into the engine? The hyd oil lever is dropping and the engine oil raising? I would find it hard to tell there is hyd oil in the engine oil I think.

Shorts can be hard to find. Hope you have it solved but if it shows back up and I do not know this tractor what happens is the light comes on and you turn on the tractor lights, does that affect the warning light? You may have a loose ground. Also with it not doing this in neutral but when in range I would look at that switch for issue with connection or back switch.

Hello Jerry,

I hope you have it fixed by now but more info is needed if you still need help.

What does "pulls plug loose" mean? Do you mean it pulls the pto shaft from the mower? If that is it your issue may be simple: first there is a pin of some sort that holds the pto shaft onto the shaft on the mower. It may be a shear bolt if a smooth shaft that is what you should find and it probably does not have a true clutch on the pto shaft but if a spline shaft then normally what you will find is a pin you push in that is spring loaded. You could also find there is a collar on the shaft you pull back to the pto shaft to release it. If the shear bolt or pin then replace. If one of the last two then try lubing the push locking pin or collar and check for trash on them. Often they will rust or just junk sticking to them causes them to "stick" open or locked. kt

Interesting read. Hope it works well for you and the one suggestion I well say to make it last well is to really "like it". Ever notice a person who took a car that the previous owner said was worn out and it ran and ran and no problems for they "LIKED IT" and thus were not picking it to death.

On real side, do keep up with service. From experience doubt you will find tougher job for a farm tractor than working with clearing land. I have done my share but they are just not built for it. So you must be extra careful. A farm tractor is not built for hitting any much more than a corn stalk and any way you take it a 3 inch limb is much harder and tougher. Again you can do it just keep your eyes open and move slowly and you should be fine. God Bless. kt

The more you tell about the 812 the more I realize the 601 was a very basic tractor. We have a pond and ditches here and with the 601 working with cutter there was tough. You had to be ready to push it gear shift lever out of gear so the cutter would NOT push you.

Sure did not realize the 1,000 pto had been around that long. One thing think you are proving here, it pays to know your options before you buy for some of those options can really make a big difference for little additional cost when you are using a tool.
