guessing on my part: this was used in logging?

Can you talk with the mechanic on this tractor the operator? The oils being clean may mean they keep them serviced of for the first time in years they just changed the fluids.

Starter solenoid should be a minor repair.

I would try to find a Case mechanic that either could look at the machine with you or at least talk with about the issues as you see and get good idea on guess on repair cost.

If you can buy this machine at half of any other but repairs cost that other half or twice that amount would you still be pleased? What if repairs in next two years were say only $10,000 would you still think a good deal?

Why not look at "tractorhouse.com" to get some idea on prices of used machines and may be some new ones there. Just looked and they have a LOT listed of more brands than I even thought of. They had the Utility Vehicles on lower right of the screen.

Have you looked for a name or logo on it? If none there then only way I know is ask a dealer.

Have both a RFM and a mid mount ZTR mower. Am beginning hunt for next mower. The RFM is 72 inches and the ZTR is 52. Our yard is about 2.5 acres and it takes about 2 hours with RFM and 1.5 with ZTR and less trimming if any to follow. We have rolling front yard, big road ditch and trees. Can mower under most trees with ZTR but not height of tractor (B7210 Kubota) with RFM however being able to back that deck under grape vine and two trees the ZTR can not clear is great. <br>

Have slope at my in laws that is often wet from water draining and the ZTR can not climb back up it when it is. <br>

The RFM is wide enough can trim over the edge of road ditch while the ZTR will not even though it's deck extends a few inches past the left wheels. Most of any ZTR I have seen. <br>

What would be your recommendation of a front mount mower compared to mid mount. Also on front mount mower how does the life them compare to a ZTR? Would expect to buy a used commercial front mount if I go that way. Do not think have ever seen a lawn care company here use the front mount, just golf courses. <br>

Oh, need to cut normally about weekly and our lawn is 2.5 acres but have 2 more family lawns one needs to be cut weekly and other seldom present. They are also about 2 acres each. Would like mower to be able to handle fine lawn grass and also the bigger grass than is found along roads shoulders and edges of fields.<br>

Think you will end up having to buy a total shaft. Which would be wise as both ends will be new and not having to worry about how wore the universal joint is in the end you have. If you have another pto shaft that will work (strong enough and right length and end on the cutter is the same) you can use it. <br>

Please forgive me if you already know this but, if you have not used pto shaft before be very sure you know how to get correct length shaft. Too short and it can come apart while running and too long can damage the piece of equipment or your transmission. Of course none of those are good. When the lift is level is when to measure for the short length and when either all the way up or down is when to measure for the long length. Check it both up and down. kt<br>

On the bent axle...it seems if okay for 9 years would be okay to drive then...seems like replacing it has taken 9 years longer than it should have...

Not in the business of hiring out for tractor work but you might need to be charging some extra to cover those repairs. No doubt you know wood will damage tractor very quick. I know from experience. Slow turned out to be my best defense in working with limbs and stumps and around them. Still remember using blade to grade some dirt that did have a few roots and stumps in it and looking back to see my blade way behind me. Have used two blades rated for tractor they were on to fail totally with roots and stumps. Now that I think on it each time I have had metal to break it was due to stump or very large root. Good thing I got excavator and just stick the bucket in there...lol but that was when the bucket shaft broke also. a stump. That one was to some degree son in laws fault on not greasing it properly. If shaft is squeaking something is wrong.

Where have you tried? Have you taken the part you need to a tractor shop? Forget the brand and model, depending on what it is there are aftermarket parts for most lift arms and the linkage for them.

Tractor Supply here does carry some. Not my first choice.

Welcome to TP Scott. Normally we don't beat up newbies, wait till friends to do that. LOL

Not sure on that tractor but Massey use to have gear shift lever you could pull up just the littlest bit and it would come out of place preventing the shifting out of a gear. If that is what has happened with you and you have that transmission: two big ifs.

There is a plate the great shift lever is mounted in on top of the transmission. A few bolts hold it on. Clean around it but remove it. Look straight down to where the end of the lever would be. When in neutral there is slot where two slides come together. If they are not total in line then maybe with just a screw driver line them up. That should take it out of first and all gears. You are changing gears so the force needed for that.

Now if that is the problem, learn to not pull up on the gear shift knob when shifting. You may find the pin the lever is on needs replacing due to wear allowing this.

You "may" be able to pull up on the gear shift lever and slowing keep trying to find the slot without removing the plate but that really is a shot in the dark.

I have said for years the important things in life can be done tomorrow, allowing time to make wise decisions. It is the little squeaky wheel we must attend to right now that has no long term impact. However the problem is there comes a time there is no tomorrow. Either due to a health or relationship change and the most firm is the death of another or yourself.<br>

All this came as major flash to life this past Saturday as friend and client lost his life and his two passengers in private plan crash about 3 miles from airport and about same from our house. <br>
<br>
The thought is we all learn from our mistakes, only problem is some mistakes allow for no correction. A wiser man said once learn from others mistakes, it cost much less. Will add has less heartache also.<br>
<br>
My I encourage each of us to think on those important things we think can be handled today, tomorrow or why not after vacation. We all have them.<br>
Will tell my family I love them tomorrow. Will write the one away form home a note this weekend. Will take care of my will then at same time check on additional insurance. Will get my heart right with others and The Lord. <br>
For each of us there is a time when there is no more time. We none know that moment. My Dad walked in our house on a Saturday evening and died of heart attach probably while still standing. <br>

Learn from others, take care of the important things while there is time and opportunity. It will also give you freedom to live.<br>

Do not see where you answered about pulling the choke.
We have a gator that was doing the same thing and it was totally fuel related. Use of ethanol. Used Sea Foam at least twice and pure gas and think system is finally clean. Had mind made up carb had to be taken off and cleaned out but last few times use run fine.

Do not think have seen any issue with shotgun ammo here. Wal Mart is using it to keep shelves partly filled. Hunting rifle ammo is hit and miss at Wal Mart but gun stores seem fine. Handgun ammo again at Wal Mart is scare but did find some 9 MM a couple of weeks back at fair price. Since then seen none. Have not looked for handgun ammo at gun store but my impression is they are stocked rather well. At least there are no gaps on the shelves...well other than where 22 all types go and my impression is the 17 are also in short supply even in gun stores here.

TO begin with welcome to TP.

Bill knowing some about mold get it tested for type of mold first. Some is safe but others kill and the typical homeowner will make those more dangerous trying to remove them. Even the color the mold will help tell the type it is.

With no idea where you are will make my comments for the humid southeastern US. Get vents in/near the top of that building. May need fans in them to move or change the air out often. If the building does not have guttering and drain line around it install both. Consider raising the floor of the building. Would probably install treated wood to keep it off of the metal but get the inside some higher than the area around it. Have no idea about installing moisture block (plastic) with dirt over it but if you had concrete floor here you would do that. I have that under any concrete even outdoor if something will sit on it.

Good sources on local advance would be with a company who treats for water damage on the mold type and for keeping dry a pest company as they try to keep soil dry.

On the tilt lock would look to see if trash may be holding it from locking. On glow plugs no idea on this tractor but think manual may call for them at lower temp. Have a Kubota and in hot weather can start it fine without using glow plugs but even then it will start a little faster with even a couple of seconds use. How long it has sit may have some impact but my guess is he was told to use them so he does. Wait, was that with engine cold only or for each time he started it? If he must use them on warm engine think issue.

Paul, we have little new Gator with bad gauge also and I think there is a snap on clamp that holds it in. I have only look a little at replacing ours for our use gauge is little needed. Have not even priced one.

Would like to hear back on this. Including price if you do end up buying a gauge.

I suspect Joel has hit it for you. You may wish to use jumper cables to the starter (not bypassing the starting solenoid or any safety switch) to see if that works if so right certain bad cable connection.

Had same issue with a battery and had to remove from battery and ream out the clamps. Seem to remember some issue with certain cable clamps over the years build up a glaze.

Assume you have check the fluid level and it is fine. Not many options there and not the one to give best info but most likely a lift seal blew at least part the way and oil is leaking past it. The greater the load the faster it fails.

Wonder if RMO is rear mowing option?
I have looked at Massy's web page on the 2500 lawn tractor and it does not give much info.

Did it use to operate different than this and now is not staying on? If so my guess is there is a safety switch that has gotten bumped or piece of trash affecting it. Those are totally guesses. Do you have a manual? what does it say about the operation of this switch?

Agree with Ken on this just look at the bolt that bolts that runs through the PTO shaft on the cutter. Be careful on replacing it to get correct grade bolt.
